About the author

From early in life, Kimbra Swain was indoctrinated in the ways of geekdom. Raised on Star Wars, Tolkien, Superheroes, and Voltron, she found herself immersed in a world of imagination. She started writing in high school and completed her English degree from the University of Alabama in 2003.
Her writing is influenced by a gamut of authors including Jane Austen, J.R.R. Tolkien, L.M. Montgomery, Timothy Zahn, Kathy Reichs, Kevin Hearne, and Jim Butcher.
Born and raised in Alabama, Kimbra still lives there with her husband, daughter, and two dogs. When she isn't reading or writing, she plays PC games, makes jewelry, and listens to music.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2021Zero Hour, the prequel for the series, Stories of Frost and Fire by Kimbra Swain, lays down the foundation of Winnie’s story. The readers meet Winnie in Swain’s series, Fairy Tales of the Trailer Park Queen. She is the adopted daughter of Grace. Even though most people have read the Trailer Park Series, Swain uses this novella to describe all the characters that fill Winnie’s life and sets up her future story.
It is another entertaining tale set in the south, filled with the charismatic people, mostly fairies and werewolves. Winnie is now working and making adult choices, with her family’s blessings. Even though there are many of the same characters we have already met, there is a focus elsewhere that creates a fun ride.
The book is filled with plenty of action and a lot of Swain’s trademark humor. I am glad that she decided to extend the world of the trailer park and gives us more to engage our imagination.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2019This is an exciting, great novella that passes the reigns over from Grace to Winnie, as the Phoenix gets ready to tell her tale in a different land outside the world of Winter and Shady Grove.
The novella is great, saying see ya later to most of our favorites from the trailer park, but also it was amazing because of everything that is to follow- and all the ‘kids’ well they ain’t kids no more!!
It’s the perfect in between book to sit in the middle of Amazing Grace and First Flame.
I loved Winnie’s perspective, her world and I can’t even begin to say how excited I am for First Flame.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2020Fast read setting the stage for a new generation of powerful beings who make choices that reflect both their heritage and their future.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2019Zero Hour is a great prequel to get Winnie's story started. Winnie is growing up faster than you can blink, almost literally. She's trying to find her place in the world which is difficult considering she's one of a kind. She was a plain old human,, now she's a winter fairy and the only living Phoenix. If you haven't read Fairy Tales of a Trailer Park Queen ( you should lol) Kimbra gives a tour of sorts through Shady Grove and it's cast of characters. Zero Hour is wonderful, Kimbra is a kick butt writer and I absolutely can not wait to see what's in store for Winnie!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2019I love this start to Wiynonna's story. I can't wait to be able to read more to find out about her adventures and who she decides to spend her life with. After reading about her in the Trailer Park I feel like I know her as a child and can't wait to see how she does growing up so fast and being an adult now.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2019I loved Grace's books. I liked Winnie in Grace's books. I wasn’t a fan of hers in this one. To me, she hasn’t matured at all. She needs a backbone and I hope she finds hers in the upcoming books. I felt like she whined almost the whole way through...wasn’t enjoyable...but that’s just my lowly opinion. I’ll definitely keep reading to see how she develops.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2019As someone who has been around (via reading her moms series) as Winnie grew up and watching her become the young lady is now, im super psyched to see what awaits her in life. She is so unique with her mix of sass an brassiness. Not to mention the fact that I cant wait to see whats going on with this fairy black market business! On to book 1!!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2022Great introduction to Winnie as a pseudo teenager and the turbulent flight to come for this young Phoenix. I enjoyed this introduction to the next generation's escapes in the Trailer Park universe.
