Press: A White House Gay Romance (White House Men Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
★★★★★ “This might be Nora’s best work! Complex characters, storylines, and real emotions. And can you say plot twists?!? Can’t wait for the next one!” (Amazon reviewer)
Henley is off-limits for Levar. So why can’t he stay away?
Five years ago, Levar survived a terrorist attack. The bombing left its scars, but he’s picked up his life. He loves working for the vice president—who is openly bisexual—as his press secretary.
Levar can’t afford a pesky attraction that proves to be frustratingly stubborn. Worse, those highly combustible sparks are with the very last person he should be falling for: Henley Platt, a well-known reporter covering the White House.
Henley may not be Levar’s enemy, but he’s definitely not his friend. He can’t be, not when their jobs put them on opposite sides. Henley is absolutely off-limits, even when he shows his appreciation for the sexy lingerie Levar loves to wear.
When the terrorists strike again with a devastating blow to the White House, Levar and Henley lean on each other for support. The sparks become a raging fire that won’t be doused, but what happens if they’re found out?
Press is the first book in the White House Men series, a romantic suspense gay romance series set in the White House. Think The West Wing but gay, and with less politics. Each book has a new love story with a happily ever after, but the suspense plot ends on a cliffhanger and will be continued in the rest of the series, so the series needs to be read in order. Press has 100k words. Strong TW for detailed description of terrorist attack.
★★★★★ “Clever dialogue and fast West Wing style pacing makes this story a breeze to read.” (Amazon reviewer)
★★★★★ “You might think a book about the White House would be overly political, but Phoenix does a phenomenal job of including just enough politics for the plot to work, while keeping the story more plot and character driven.” (Amazon reviewer)
★★★★★ “This contemporary MM novel is political suspense with steamy romance. But don't worry, the politics of it all doesn't overpower the hot and sweet love story.” (Amazon reviewer)

About the author

Would you like the long or the short version of my bio?
The short? You got it.
I write steamy gay romance books and I love it. I also love reading books. Books are everything.
How was that?
A little more detail? Gotcha.
I started writing my first stories when I was a teen…on a freaking typewriter. I still have these, and they’re adorably romantic. And bad, haha. Fear of failing kept me from following my dream to become a romance author, so you can imagine how proud and ecstatic I am that I finally overcame my fears and self doubt and did it. I adore my genre because I love writing and reading about flawed, strong men who are just a tad broken..but find their happy ever after anyway.
My favorite books to read are pretty much all MM/gay romances as long as they have a happy end. Kink is a plus… Aside from that, I also read a lot of nonfiction and not just books on writing. Popular psychology is a favorite topic of mine and so are self help and sociology.
Hobbies? Ain’t nobody got time for that. Just kidding. I love traveling, spending time near the ocean, and hiking. But I love books more.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2020I wasn’t particularly surprised that I loved this book as it’s from one of my favorite authors, but I do admit I had just a little hesitation with the setting prior to reading it, since there is so much going on politically and otherwise in the US-I write this in September 2020. I like my books to have realism but I also want them to be an entertaining escape, not in your face with current problems and events. Well, I didn’t need to worry at all. It’s not about current politics (other than mentions of issues that are always high profile, but there isn’t any direct connection to specific events). It’s definitely about the people and their lives and experiences.
So if you’re worried about the political setting don’t be. There are a couple moderately descriptive scenes of terrorist attacks with death and injuries, I didn’t feel they were graphic and were not gratuitous at all, but would be the only thing that I would recommend you consider if this would be a trigger for you.
The main characters are very well realized; I felt connected to both of them. Their personalities, emotions, and chemistry is well done. They have a back-and-forth in some ways that tantalizes and rewards the reader, I was invested in how their experiences were moving forward and what they were thinking and feeling. I really enjoyed the development of their relationship and some personal development as well. And it goes without saying that as always with this amazing author the story flows well, dialogue is great, and steamy scenes were perfection!
Secondary characters were interesting and never felt like an afterthought. I’m excited to see some of them in the future in this series, I hope!
Overall I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read what’s next in the series!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2021Another great one by Nora Phoenix. I’m excited about this series for a lot of reasons. 1. The writing in book 1 proves it’s as well written as all the top mm series out there. 2. I love following series and getting to know characters longer, and this plot is so different from others. 3. Olympus Has Fallen is one of my favorite movie series and this reminds me of that a bit. For this book I absolutely loved both Henley and Levar. Chemistry was great with a lot of action to keep you moving. But still your HEA. Only reason I gave it 4 star instead of 5 is because politics just really isn’t my thing, so I had a little trouble following all the rules and relationships within the group. Not Nora’s fault, but a slight downside for me is all. Very slight though. The series is still awesome.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2024I don't know how I missed this series. I thought I had read all of Nora Phoenix's catalogue. I'm thrilled to have found this. And this first book in the series has me so ready for more. This was lovely while being so honest with the extended, invisible damage a catastrophic event can inflict. So much pain but doled out in doses and in a way that you can handle it. You can appreciate the struggles and root for everyone's success. This is so well written that, at times, it feels like an historical narrative instead of fiction. You are immediately pulled into this wonderful world. I would be sad if this had been a standalone. Obviously, I highly recommend this book of a friendship-to-relationship that defies all odds and potential pitfalls. So well done!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2025This a great start to the series, I'm totally hooked. Levar and Henley are great characters and I loved seeing find each other. The premise of this series is really intriguing to me.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2021Good premise with a relatively authentic feel about how the White House functions but because so many explanations are provided to the reader, it was rather boring at times. There were brief moments of danger and tension but this isn’t terribly suspenseful, at this point at least. The lingerie fetish was unnecessary and kinda weird to include it in a book that’s trying o tackle serious themes.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2020This book was so much more than I expected, although I should have known better coming from Nora. Such a sweet love story set against the backdrop of the complicated and often ugly world of politics. The characters are complex, both healing from a shared tragedy. The story is richly detailed and realistic. I wanted Henley and Levar to have their HEA, and the slow simmer was well worth it! Fans of Nora's will love this story. If you haven't read her work yet, what are you waiting for????

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth reading.
That book was fantastic. I really enjoy every page of it. I love a book that get you feeling multiples things all at the same time. I love the way the relationship grows more and more. The battle they go through because they kinda not on the same side.
It's a really great start to a series that I am sure you will enjoy. I strongly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Politics, friendship and a really good story!
This book has everything I love in an unpardonable book.
The friendship slowly growing between Henley and Levar, the shades of The West Wing and Designated Survivor and the background of an unbelievably horrific event which is shared by all, makes this one of the most intriguing books I've read in this genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nora does it again
From the prologue to the last chapter, this book had everything I have come to expect from a Nora Phoenix series, suspense, intrigue, drama, comedy and the eventual HEA.
Levar and Henley are awesome MC's, but maybe its the protector in myself, that I fell immediately for Rhett and can't wait for him to get his HEA in a future volume of this series.
As usual, the over-riding background story, ties in well with the main MC's, and keeps you interested and wanting more. Well researched and well written, cant wait to dig deeper into this political world and the characters it revolves around in future books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow Start
I downloaded the sample but couldn't really decide whether I wanted to buy the book, fortunately it eventually became available on Unlimited.
So glad I didn't purchase though as it didn't quite work for me. The plot was really, really good and drew me in but was spoiled with the emphasis on the romance of Henley & Levar - it was so repetitive and boring at times. I feel that the ongoing plot is going to be dragged out over the 7 books and the story will lose it's punch.
