Gingerbread Mistletoe (Lighthouse Bay Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 179 ratings

The last thing Jeff wants is to spend time with the man who totaled his car—the one he spent years restoring with his late father. But if he wants to resurrect his childhood town’s annual outdoor hockey tournament, he’s got no choice.

The last thing Mika wants is to work with the guy who took off right after the accident, without ensuring he was okay. And working together on organizing Jeff’s proposed tournament sounds like a complete nightmare. He’s got enough on his plate after surviving cancer.

Sparks fly as they’re forced to work together, but is that enough for them to set their differences aside and pull off the tournament in only two weeks? Or will they prove to be immune to the magic of Christmas?

Pure holiday romance goodness!!

Pure holiday romance goodness!!
This was such a great romance. And it 100% gave me all the Christmas spirit! And it’s based in my home state of Maine! That is always a win for me! Jeff decides to spend his Christmas in his old hometown, Lighthouse Bay, Maine to feel closer to his deceased father. He hasn’t been back there really for almost 30 years, but with his own two children off doing their own things this holiday season, Jeff is feeling a bit melancholy. While roaming the town, he comes across an old photo of the annual Christmas hockey tournament the town always threw, but upon discovering that it hasn’t been a thing for many years, he decides to propose they start up again. Mika is a resident of the town, having come back the previous year after a terrible cancer diagnosis, just needing to be with family. The actor is in remission now, but he is still suffering some heinous after-effects of chemo. When he is approached by Jeff about reinstating the hockey tournament, the two realize they already know each other... One year previous, Mika, upon getting his cancer diagnosis, bumped into the back of Jeff’s car... the one he spent his young adult life restoring with his father. Mika tries to apologize and begs to be able to pay for damages, but Jeff won’t hear him at all, content to be angry at Mika. Now, the two will have to work together, learning that they are more compatible that either had thought.

Gingerbread Mistletoe is a sweet, heartwarming holiday read that offers hope, comfort, love, and desire to two emotionally vulnerable men.
Jeff and Mika are a lovely couple. Their acceptance and support for each other (with a few hitches here and there) is beautiful to watch. Their disparate personalities give the reader something to push against and worry about, while their honest feelings of warmth and passion towards each other provide the reader something to cherish. These things make this couple memorable and lasting. I was rooting for these guys from the first, even as they clashed. There is just something about them that makes me love them and want them to be happy.
I appreciate the delicacy the author implements concerning the medical aspect of the piece. There is enough to denote the seriousness of the condition, but it is handled so that it does not overshadow the HEA. Thank you for that, dear author.
I’m glad I picked up this book. It gave me the warm fuzzies, laughter, and some pain, but it ended with me wishing there was more.
I look forward to more from this author.

Yep, I still want to pack my bags and move to Lighthouse Bay. Once again the setting shined as brightly as the characters and the story. I love this little town, and the people in it, so much!

Gingerbread Mistletoe is a wonderful small town, holiday romance. It'll put you in the holiday spirit for sure- and couldn't we all use more of that this year?
It's such a heartwarming, sweet read, with some definite heart-tugging moments. Mika and Jeff are complete opposites in many ways, but so alike in others. Mika's been working in Hollywood while Jeff's been burning the candle at both ends at the company he started. When they both end up back in Lighthouse Bay, sparks fly-and not just the good kind, thanks to a previous encounter that neither have been able to get out of their mind.

I really enjoyed being along for the journey as these two worked their way through their differences and slowly fell in love. There was a little back and forth, some resistance on both ends, and a bit of a misunderstanding, but I liked that there wasn't really any drama, and the troubles weren't drawn out. I loved the way Jeff went about wooing Mika, it was the cutest and sweetest thing! And I liked how Mika was there for Jeff, when the grief of losing his father got to be a little overwhelming.

I must admit, when Mika made his first appearance in Christmas Lane, (which you do not have to read to enjoy Gingerbread Mistletoe, although it is a great introduction to the town and its characters- and I mean that in more ways than one!) I wasn't his biggest fan. In fact, I didn't like him much at all, for a whole 5 minutes. But once I got to know him, and his background, I couldn't wait to learn more about him. I'm so happy he got his happily ever after with Jeff, they were such a wonderful couple!

I'm not sure if Ms. Aislin has plans for more in this series, but there's for sure one couple I'd love to see more of!

I love Christmas stories, I read as many as I can during the season. And this is one of the best this season. It was a low angst, and light-hearted read. And yet there were those moments in the story that tugged at your heart and maybe brought a little moisture to your eyes. When I was done with the book, I sighed and was sad it was over.

Watching Mika and Jeff navigate from enemies to friends, then beyond was enjoyable. The secondary characters are a fun bunch and add to the overall story. Most of them appear in the first book of this series. But I hadn't read that book, so this one can be a standalone read. But I am going back to read the first one.

Gingerbread Mistletoe is the second installment in Amy Aislin’s Lighthouse Bay Christmas series. Jeff’s is aimless over the holidays and finds himself back in his hometown of Lighthouse Bay. He didn’t think he’d run into the actor who he had gotten into a wreck with in Los Angeles, Mika. Mika is in Lighthouse Bay, recuperating from illness, but is fully immersed in the inner workings of the town. He’s the heartbeat behind the holiday market and Jeff needs his approval to start the hockey tournament he remembered from his childhood back up.
I’m a sucker for holiday themed romances. It was fun to revisit Lighthouse Bay and catch up with the characters from book one and to see Mika’s redemption story. I had such a dislike of him in the first book, I was surprised that he quickly became one of my favorites. He was charming, sweet, and kind to everyone he crossed paths with, even when he was beyond busy with making sure the market ran smoothly.
Jeff, I felt his character in my bones. It’s hard to know what to do with yourself when you go from busy beyond belief to endless time on your hands. I liked seeing him give back to his community and the enjoyment he got out of it. He may have been a businessman, but he was giving. The way he wooed Mika, oh it was adorable. I knew what he was doing with the first inflatable Christmas yard decoration he sat out in Mika’s parents’ yard. He kept at it, even after he got his man.
I had fun getting lost in Lighthouse Bay and in the joy that the holidays bring.

Christmas love stories are my favorites and they are my guilty pleasure on this season. So the story of Jeff and Mika is full of the magic of the season, many heartwarming moments and one of the sweetest love story ever. In spite of Mike's medical condition, the story is easy to read and emotional in a good way. I enjoyed a lot how Jeff courted Mike, slowly gaining his heart. Also I would like to thank Ms Aislin her wonderful management of the medical aspect of the story. As a physician and specially as an oncologist is sometimes difficult to enjoy a story just because the disease is mentioned or in too much detail that put everything too close for comfort or so superficial and uninvestigated that I spent half the book looking out the medical omissions. In this book Ms Aislin masterfully got the perfect balance and I was able to truly immerse in the amazing story. One of the best books I've read lately. Great Holiday reading!

Many will enjoy this novel by the wonderful writer. It just did not fit my own mood at this time. However, I will most likely read it again to make sure, as i do with the few wonderful writers that I truly admire.

Having said that, Amy got it right for me in one way. The recovery after a cancer diagnosis varies from person to person, and the aftermath is just as fraught as during treatment. Pain, depression, the mental fog, lack of appetite for food & intimacy. Kudos to Amy for writing a charming story and creating lovely magic with words. Loneliness is a central theme as well. Remember folks, especially during this holiday & pandemic, not to forget those who are alone. Be kind. Everyone is hurting . Ignore the bullies.
