    Hunter and Emma were high school sweethearts but he had some emotional damage from his dad leaving and then his mother dying when he was young. He left town without a word and Emma thought that was unforgivable.

    9 years later, he's back in Jetty Beach. 10 years later, he sees Emma for the first time since he left, and he goes home and draws up a 5 point plan to get her back, because he never stopped loving her.

    But he's got some secrets that he needs to share with her before she'll be willing to trust him with her heart again.

    I like Hunter a lot. He's gone through a lot in his life and has matured a lot, especially during his time in the Marines. Emma wasn't the strong woman I like to read - it might have seemed like she was being strong when she was resisting Hunter, but she was really letting fear guide her heart. Not that she didn't deserve the truth from Hunter about why he left without a word when they were 18, because she did.

    I enjoy Claire Kingsley's Jetty Beach books enough to read them about once a year ;)

    Hunter left more than a decade ago. He just up and left without a word to anyone. He had his own demons to fight and now that he has, it was time to go home.

    Emma has moved on from her old life, now divorced, and trying to put her life back together. She is happy to be away from her ex but everything comes crashing down when she sees the boy who walked away more than a decade ago, staring back at her. So much hurt and devastation but under it all is still love.

    Loved Hunter and his growth and determination. You feel sorry for him as he knows he wants Emma but no idea how to go about doing that. Lots of demons to slay but they still love each other. So sweet.

    I'm kind of sad I didn't like this more. I've been excited for Hunters story for awhile. I absolutely loved the first two books of this series but the last two didn't really grab my attention. Although Hunter and Emma had an intriguing story I couldn't get past Hunter's need to organize a plan to get Emma back (hand written, step 1, step 2, etc.) That was odd. Then there was the complete contradiction of Emma. In one chapter she's describing her complete hatred for Hunter leaving her (10 years ago) and the next chapter she's fighting butterflies in her tummy because she's excited to see him. There was no build up from hating what he had done to accepting he might have made a mistake and making room in her life again.

    Then once he finally convinces her to meet him for coffee...and she does...he's excusing himself to take phone calls. I just thought that as important as it was for him to win his only love back he would have made her a priority for the 30-60 minutes they were meeting for coffee.

    In the end I just didn't feel a past connection of two high school sweethearts who dated 10 years ago and I didn't feel they rebuilt or reconnected any type of relationship in the present.

    I do like this writer and will read future books but I think I might be done in Jetty Beach.

And Hunter’s steady meticulous 5 phase plan and his self-talk was so swoony sweet. Hunter is a former Marine who was medically discharged a year ago and returned home to small town Jetty Beach. Emma is recently divorced and living with her brother in Jetty Beach. Hunter and Emma were HS sweethearts and he broke her heart 10 years ago when he left to join the Marines without an explanation. To get to their HEA they’ll need to be groveling, baggage unpacking, and leaps of faith but I loved going on the journey with Hunter and Emma with all the speed bumps and big feels. The story was well written and included engaging dialogue, characters with dimension who grow and a swoony storyline. I’ll definitely be reading more of this heartwarming series.
