Hidden Miles: A Small-Town Romance (The Miles Family Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 11,046 ratings

“I wasn’t ready for this. Hannah deserved a man who was whole, not a broken shell. But I couldn’t resist her. Couldn’t resist this. It felt too good. And would that be so bad? To have something that felt good for once?”

Leo Miles came home broken—wounded and scarred. It’s been five years, and he hasn’t left his family’s land. Not once. It’s not much of a life, but the way he looks now, he prefers to stay hidden.

His only reprieve is her voice. He puts on his headset, logs in to his game, and she’s there. They talk while they play, sharing everything but personal details. She’s his best friend—his happy place—even though he doesn’t know her real name. Until one day, he hears a voice he recognizes.

Meeting Hannah Tate in person rocks the reclusive Leo’s world. And discovering she’s in trouble—serious trouble—changes everything.

Hannah is Leo’s every fantasy come true. And the badass gamer girl is determined to break through his defenses. But between the mess that is his life, and the threats to his family’s safety, he can’t be anyone’s hero. Least of all hers. But maybe they both need saving.

Author’s note: A wounded hero who’ll squeeze your heart. A girl in trouble. And the family who won’t let either of them down.

The Miles Family is best enjoyed in order.

This was one of my favorites in this series so far. Leo and Hannah were just perfect for each other. Starting out as long term friends who had never met, then an accidental meeting changed everything. Loved the story and the happily ever after.

Leo Miles story was one I was looking forward to reading from the first mention of him I'm book one and this book was no disappointment. Leo was seriously wounded overseas and when he returned home to his family, he wasn't the same and leaving the family land was out of the question. Five years later he still hasn't left and being around anyone outside of the family is out of the question, which is why gaming is a great escape.

Enter Hannah, someone he never thought he would meet in person, but when he recognizes her voice at a wedding on his family's vineyard, everything changes. Hannah's trying to get out of a bad relationship and fleas the vineyard she was at once but somehow found comfort in, never expecting to run into her online friend. Leo offers her a place to land while she figures out her future and Hannah pushes Leo in exactly the way he needs, but is it all enough?

I loved this book so much. Both Hannah and Leo were great characters with such amazing character growth and they way they were always able to support each other was just great. Definitely check the content warnings of this book, there were mentions of some pretty heavy subject matter throughout this book, though I think it was all handled really well. And of course seeing everyone from the previous books was a perfect bonus. I would definitely recommend this one to anyone who enjoys the following.

Excellent story! I SO loved this book! After reading book 3, Cooper was my favorite brother, but he's been nudged out of first place by Leo. You can't help but feel empathy for Leo. Scarred emotionally and physically as an aftermath to his time in the Army, Leo had become a recluse. He never left his family's winery, avoided people outside of his family, and even remained somewhat distant with family members. He didn't like to be touched. He had panic attacks. For him, recreation was participating in online gaming. His favorite gaming favorite was a woman he only knew as Gigz. Via their headset conversations as they teamed up for games, he knew the sound of her voice. They engaged in casual conversations, but knew no personal information about each other or even how each other looked. Gigz, whose real name was Hannah, was in a toxic, living-together relationship with a boyfriend she feared. Hannah attended a wedding with her boyfriend Jace at the Miles family winery. Leo heard her voice and realized she was Gigz. He didn't introduce himself to her, but their eyes met briefly and Hannah was shocked by her intense, internal reaction to (who she thought) was a perfect stranger. The next time they're online, Leo doesn't know how to reveal to her that he'd seen her in person. When Jace goes from being emotionally to physically abusive, she leaves town and winds up back at the winery, which had seemed like a comforting and safe place to her. She and Leo meet again and she finds out who he really is. He encourages her to leave Jace for good. She agrees it's time to do that, and returns alone to pack up her things. Leo, who is still emotionally unable to leave the winery, stays behind and waits for her call that she's on her way back. Instead, Hannah calls him from the hospital. Jace came home unexpectedly and beat her up when he found her packing to leave. It's SO romantic that Leo immediately tells his family he needs to borrow car keys, as he's determined to go to her. Kudos to the Miles brothers who all jump up and go with him (with one of them driving). Hannah's being released from the hospital, and they all go to her former apartment and help pack her things, taking her back to the winery. Cooper privately asks Hannah to stay with Leo at his place, because he feels Leo may have a negative, anti-climatic reaction to leaving the winery (first and only time in five years). Leo and Hannah's attraction to each other becomes romantic, hot, and real, but they face a bumpy road as they both heal from past wounds. The description of that process is very realistic. The minefield of chaos and drama triggered by Leo's dad's past actions causes danger for the family, especially for Leo. The road to a HEA is not easy for Hannah and Leo. There's a lot of angst in this story, but it's all very believable. You can't help but root for this couple. The closeness of the Miles family is heartwarming. This is a story that I will probably reread in the future. I know that there is presently only one more book in this series, but I hope that the author will eventually write a book about the half-sister Grace and possibly the younger, half-brother Elijah, too.

Finally we get Leo’s story. What a great one. We knew he was hurting and hiding from life, the saddest thing ever. The chance meeting with his best friend, Hannah who he only knew from online gaming, and the chance they both had to help and support each other was well told. The confrontation of her demons and his willingness to save his family and ultimately Hannah and their unborn child was so moving. These wonderful stories are such a pleasure to read, the talent of Claire Kingsley to bring these characters to life is astounding. Thanks again CK.

Absolute Leseempfehlung!

These two went thru some of the absolute worst things two people could ever experience … then they met and found solace in one another … throw in some drama… spice and banter and more drama for them to then find their HEA, I was obsessed with them
