About the Author

Gregg Dunnett is a British author writing psychological thrillers and stories about travel and adventure, usually with a connection to the coast, or the oceans. Before turning to novels he worked as a journalist for ten years on a windsurfing magazine, briefly owned a sailing school in Egypt, taught English in Thailand, Portugal, Turkey and Italy, taught sailing in Greece and Spain, and also had several rather duller jobs along the way. His brother is the adventurer Jono Dunnett who in 2015 windsurfed alone and unsupported around the entire coastline of Great Britain, and who is currently windsurfing around the coastline of Europe. Gregg lives in Bournemouth on the south coast of England with his partner Maria. They have two young children, Alba and Rafa, for whom the phrase Daddy's working has absolutely no effect.

Gregg Dunnett writes twist-packed psychological thrillers set where the land meets the sea – a habit born of years chasing waves as a windsurfing journalist and all-round beach-bum. His novels include the Amazon #1 bestsellers “The Wave at Hanging Rock” and “The Things You Find in Rockpools” (now in development for TV) and the Audible #1 hit “Little Ghosts”.

After twenty years on England’s south coast, Gregg, his partner María (who translates the books into Spanish), their two kids and a daft Labradoodle named Loki set off on another adventure – moving to Spain to draw artistic inspiration from the moody Cantabrian mountains and the wild Atlantic coast. Plus the food’s really good.

There was a lot of action in this book. It kept me thinking pretty much through the whole book. The writing was good, the characters well developed and the book flowed well. Sometimes I have problems reading books by British writers as they tend to use a lot of local slang that I don't understand which confuses me and take away from the story for me, but that was not the case here. Any slang used was common enough that I fully understood it. The ending was a complete surprise that I never saw coming and still has me thinking about it. For me that's a good book. I will read more by this author!

I found this book a little bit slow in places, but Mr Dunnett does make his characters rich and interesting. I did not enjoy this book as much as a couple others from Gregg Dunnett such a Wave at Hanging Rock, but a fairly decent read. I felt this one just lacked suspense in places.

You probably shouldn't even read THIS review!

This was ultimately a good read. I don't say that lightly - few books get my stamp of approval. Technically, it was very good - the spelling was good, the characters were well-developed, I didn't spot any plot holes, and I didn't figure out the ending until the end. When it was given to me. That alone was worth the read; that the author drove the story so carefully that I was engaged until the end. The author's goals for this story were accomplished (read the Afterword, well...after). If you are a fan of whodunits, I'd definitely recommend this book.

Definitely a different twist on a whodunnit. Great read, kept my interest all throughout. Unable to give more stars as I really didn’t care for the amount of profanity.

I absolutely loved this book! I must admit the the major twist at the end was not expected. At first I wasn’t sure it was the way I was wanted it to go, but it all worked. It really had to end that way. I love Mr. Dunnett’s ability to weave a good and complex story. This was my fifth book from him. I want an author to entertain me and this certainly did. I recommend this book along with his others.

Fantastic book, well drawn characters great story. I loved it, right up until I read the author's notes afterwards. When I read that he deliberately set out to manipulate his readers, it infuriated me. He may be a good writer, but his motivation in writing this book totally turned me off. It's a good book, but be aware.

I was sucked into the plot from page one. Great character development, enough love-of-the-underdog to get me hoping for his success, and interest in conspiracy theories for me to want to see justice done! Very taut suspense throughout. Clever to say early on, ' he had three months to live'. I kept wondering, is it here? Is it here?
    Good ending, too.
I appreciate the note at the end, too!
I'll be reading more of Gregg Dunnett!

Very well developed characters. They totally bring the reader in all thru the book. This is also how the confusion starts with pulling the reader in more than one direction all the way to almost the end. There's always this elusive feeling that something is just out of reach. Keeps one reading trying to unravel what it is. I'm a great fan & follower of Mr Dunnett's work having read a number of his books. While this one is really worth reading, I have to be honest & say that it just barely missed it's mark of excellence. It's almost like he deleted a chapter just before the relevasions begin. After completing, I still felt like I missed something.

I've read all of Greg Dunnet's books and they're all very good. But this one is seriously excellent. Said by many with a modicum of truth about many books, but I really couldn't put this one down. There's a lot to it, but like many stories of this nature it's hard to really list all the good points without spoilers. However, what we have here is a thriller containing a touching love story, a conspiracy theory, a disbelieving mother and a Home Secretary who is a little too involved. There's two sides to this story, the downtrodden hero and heroine on one side and the Machiavellian authorities on the other. But which is true? Which will prevail? The only way to discover this is to read the book. Which I heartily recommend you do. Greg Dunnett's writing is the key here. This is the best book yet. Keep 'em coming Greg.
