From Faking To Forever (Starling Bay Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 190 ratings

A fake marriage requires a fake husband.
This is the one small problem preventing Shay Donovan from becoming the sole beneficiary of her great-aunt's fortune.

The money would help with the medical bills for her father's illness, except that she has no husband, she isn't engaged, and there is no boyfriend in sight.
But what better candidate to select than the man who saved her life?

Blake Kennedy, a local factory owner, has spoken to Shay Donovan on many occasions. He's not interested in romantic liaisons, but the cute, funny and bespectacled recruitment consultant is a good reason for him to attend the monthly business meetings.

But when Shay asks him to marry her, he can't quite believe his luck. And when she tells him she's only looking for a fake husband, he jumps at the opportunity to help her.

But living together, faking marriage and trying to hide his feelings doesn't come easily, especially when Shay has her eyes set on another man.

From Faking To Forever is the fourth book in the Starling Bay series. It is a STANDALONE romance with no cheating and a HEA.

From the Inside Flap

Blake glanced over at Shay and saw that she was still talking to Jenna. He should go and speak to her about his employee problem now because he needed to rush off at the end. He had a few months yet to sort things out but it would give him a good excuse to talk to Shay if he brought the topic up now. "I might have a word with Shay," he said, seeing Jenna wander off and leave Shay by herself. Now was his chance to grab her. "Let me go and speak to her now. I'll see you around."

"I need to go and hide," Reed muttered. "Hyacinth's found me."

"Didn't realize you were hiding." They shook hands, and he strode over to the refreshment table where Shay had her back to him.

He tapped her on the shoulder and she turned around with her mouth full and a banana in her hand. She coughed, then seemed to splutter, then her face turned red.

At first he didn't know what to make of it, but as she coughed and spluttered some more, he quickly saw that she was actually choking right in front of his eyes. Without waiting another second, he stood behind her, made a fist with one hand, grabbed it with his other hand, and pushed hard a few times under her ribcage.

Something shot from her mouth and rocketed towards the wall. Shay stumbled backwards, wiping her mouth, her face and eyes red. Jenna had come running.

"What happened?" she asked, but he quickly grabbed some napkins from the table and handed them to Shay. A few other people surrounded them and a crowd has formed around Shay. She held her hand to her chest, and looked as if she wanted to die--from embarrassment. "Are you okay?" he asked, still concerned.

She nodded, unable to speak.
Jenna started fussing over her friend, so he left her to it and started to make the crowd disperse. "Nothing to see," he said, smiling good-naturedly and standing in front of Shay so that they couldn't see her.

He was glad he'd been around.

Or maybe he'd been the reason she'd choked, him surprising her so suddenly?

"I have to go," said Jenna, suddenly looking around the room as everyone went to their chair. "Do you mind keeping an eye on her?"

"Not at all." He stepped forward while Jenna picked up Shay's half-eaten banana from the floor.

"Are you okay?" he asked Shay, facing her directly this time.
She nodded and reached for the glass of water he'd poured for her.

"Thank you."

"Don't mention it."

"And thank you for getting rid of the audience."

"Don't mention it," he insisted, then peered at her because her face was red, and she still didn't look well.

"I can't breathe. I think I need some fresh air."

"Come on outside," he offered, and gently took her arm to help her out. Not that she was incapable of walking, but he felt genuinely concerned for her. He could miss Hyacinth's opening note. He usually yawned his way through that part. Networking and meeting other people were what these meetings were best for. And saving Shay Donovan from choking on a banana had already been the highlight of his evening.

I loved Shay and Blake’s story. It starts out as a fake marriage, but things have a way of changing when you have to spend so much time together. There’s some hiccups along the way, but we do get a happily ever after. Grab your copy and see what happens.

I love books that I can get lost in. Couldn’t wait to pick it up again. It’s refreshing to not have to go thru page after page of explicit sex scenes. Some thing needs to be left to the imagination

Shay and Blake's story is a sweet friends to spouses to lovers story with a twist. The ending was perfect!

    Welcome back to Starling Bay.
Shay Donovan is having a hard time making ends meet, she is trying to help he parents pay the bills for her father's medical treatments and she has been taking out loans and has told her parents she got a promotion and raise. Then Shay gets a call that changes her life, she if the sole beneficiary of her Great Aunt's estate worth 21.5 million dollars, but there is a catch, she needs to be married.
Blake Kennedy has a good business but has been hit with a few unexpected expenses when equipment breaks down. Blake is also facing 3 of his 4 office personnel going out on maternity leave at the same time, in December.
Shay and Blake has seen each other and had a few exchanges over the years at the monthly business meetings, so they are not complete strangers. Shay has an idea, propose to Blake that they get married for 1 year and she will give him 1 million dollars. He is not bad looking so how hard can it be to live together, but not in the biblical sense, for 1 year so they can both earn the inheritance.
Can these two relative strangers make this fake marriage seem real to the lawyers that will periodically spot check that they are actually married, but still keep their arrangement a secret from their friends and family? Will their growing attraction only complicate an already complicated relationship?

This is a well written story that will have you turning the pages to see what will happen next. Although this is a stand alone book once you meet the characters fro Starling Bay, you will want to meet them all and learn more about them.

These stories have a lot of secrets and behind the scenes deception. I think they should have come out and said they were together.

Shay never noticed Blake except when he rubbed her the wrong way until she needs a temporary husband to gain an inheritance from an aunt, which she wants to use to pay her father’s medical bills. Blake agrees to it for the money for his factory, but the more time he spends with Shay, the more he falls for her. But she has feelings for Rourke, right? And his ex is back in the picture trying to make a move him so Shay doesn’t see his heart as hers either. Their romance had plenty of rocky moments and misunderstandings. I didn’t like how she pushed him away in public because she didn’t want her friends and family to know, but she took the risk that the lawyers’ spies could have been watching and called her out on it.
