Who Laughs Last (Clearwater University Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 2,197 ratings

They say revenge is a dish best served cold...

But I'd rather serve it hot, with a side of humiliation.

The Icons got what they wanted. My life is a smoldering wreck because of them.

But that doesn't mean I'm done fighting.

What I did to Trent is just the beginning. He deserves so much worse for what he's done to me.

West and Reese are no better. They told me they cared about me, but when it mattered most, they took his side over mine.

My body still craves all of them.

But my broken heart?

It just wants to take all of them down.

This is book two of the Clearwater University series, a new adult enemies-to-lovers romance. It contains cursing and high steam.

    Tropes:
    ~RH (1F, 3M)
    ~Bullying (HS/College - Past History Friends/Love)
    ~Revenge (Cyberbullying)

The 2nd installment keeps the tension ripe. Eva Ashwood is perfect at her cliffhangers. Emma really gets put through the ringer, but also a great slow progression of all the MMCs (specifically Reese & West) discovering the truth about their feelings.

The best part of bullying romances is the payoff for MMCs regretting their actions or realizing they were in the wrong and how they make up that. This keeps all that tension that hopefully pays off in 3rd book.

Definitely a lot of ups and downs, great spice especially with flashbacks.

Emma starts to form a revenge plan with her roommate, but discovers along the way that some burned bridges are slowly being rebuilt. Very slow. There’s a little bit more insight into Trent’s divorce and Emma’s dad, but not a whole lot. Sex seems to be like an “ice breaker” for now, but you know that the guys will take a physical touch when they can since Emma has built walls around her heart and won’t emotionally allow herself to believe them anymore.

There’s a couple things I don’t understand: At the house party, who the hell doesn’t lock up their own room or hide their valuables? I could never understand house parties, even when I was a college student. In regards to Leslie, her parents sent her to a mental facility for personality disorder, but I haven’t exactly felt like she had that. I think you have to have a basic understanding of what it is in order to see it in the story. Also, how did Trent come up with the audio of Leslie saying she wanted to take Emma down? I’m assuming he did some BTS audio work and that the audio was false and he just played around with the pitches to make it sound like her. There wasn’t an exact detail of the plan.

Anyway, I did enjoy the book overall. It does end with a cliffhanger. I feel like the guys had equal presence within the story, which is great. Can’t wait to read the next book.

Well, I don't know where to start with this book except that this is one amazing series! I totally read this book in one sitting. I could not put it down with all the twists going on.

So as you know book one had that epic ending and so we pick up from there. Emily is trying to pick up the pieces of what is left of her. There is discord between her and her father because she is no longer at Clearwater University. Her friend Leslie feels sorry for her and Emily decides to ask her to help her bring the guys down. Except Reese and West do not want to be apart of Trent's plan anymore. So how are they going to fix it? Then there is a betrayal of epic proportions. I sure did not see it coming. You also get a better understanding of why Trent is the way he is. What will he do about it. What will they all do about what is happening.

You thought the first books ending was mind blowing, wait til you get to this cliffhanger! I can't wait for the next book.

Well… I gave book 2 a chance and the steam is there, but the leaps in logic are just too wide. It’s like the snags in plot pantyhose from book 1 caused full blown rips—which, of course, they were bound to but I was hoping maybe the author would have some reasoning or twist, or… something.

It makes me sad because there’s genuine meat to this story that could have made it great, but it just got chucked right out the window for a SWF rando villain. It really bums me out because this story’s unique awesome was already there.

In my review of book one, I said I was pleasantly surprised by the storyline as it wasn’t like most bully romances I read.

I’m even more surprised (pleasantly) in this one as two of the male characters decided to go against the third in terms of his bullying behavior. I seriously love this.

I also love that it’s not the typical “Barbie doll” looking female character that tries to bring down the female main character.

    I seriously love this series!

This book gets 5 cups od scalding java, ☕☕☕☕☕.

There's so much clusterf*cks and betrayals, but also some eye opening truths with Trent in regard to his family break up in the past. All the guys are in love with Emma, the tide turns, a turning point, when Emma's roommate, Leslie, turned on her. Which had the guys' protective instincts over Emma, helping her get through the mess. They think it is over when Leslie is hauled off for her crimes and set into a addiction group home to help with her hacking addiction. But was it over? At dinner restaurant, all the guys' cards are declined. On the way back to their house, Trent is caught by speed trap which leads the police to enforce an arrest for his vehicle reported as stolen. Thusly, we're left with a cliffhanger. Definitely going into the last book of this series to find out who falls the hardest.

Turn the dial to 11! Like whew! The steam in this book and the twist and turns your heart takes. Like I know this is an enemies to lovers romance. I like the (is it genre or trope?). But this one is like deep. Like life altering stuff I’ve only seen in CM Stunich’s bully romance or Tate James/Jaymin Eves bully romance. Like messed up stuff. Daring. The payoff is big in this book and I hope that the culmination that happens in the next encompasses the forgiveness that needs to happen. Dark. So dark. Raw and beautiful. Loved it.

Whilst I still dont feel like guys have truly redeemed themselves, well apart from Reese because I have a soft spot for him and the laundry scene was sweet and heart breaking. I'm liking the multiple pov and that it doubles back slightly so there's a point where Emma crumpled to the floor and the next chapter includes how he watched her crumple and he didn't think anything of just trying to reach her to hold her. Much better than the first in the series.

This whole series is about “Butterfly effect”.

It’s about how can a single act can tangle an unthinkable number of lives and change destinies and fates.

If I recommend? Yes, but please be prepared for so many cliffhangers that you don’t even imagine being surprised any more.

Everything shakes and there is no rest for the main 4 characters.

Super different as, by the end of the second book, the relationship should be forming and getting stronger, but there is so much suspense and plot twists that they still could not have peace of mind to figure out their own feelings of how would be all 4 together.

Let’s dig to the last volume.

Who Laughs Last is book two in the Clearwater University series. A reverse harem romance with bully themes

Thankfully this book picks right up at that cliffhanger from Who Breaks First. But while the hits keep coming for Emma she is not taking it lying down. Revenge is a dish best served cold and the Icons are in Emma's sights.

Same as the first book I really enjoy the multiple POV's with Emma and the Icons. It builds this story more and seeing the different narrative gives all the perspectives of the situation.
Character development and growth is slowly coming through here. This book while not heavy on it's own full subplot it branches on the main trilogy plot and builds to that fantastic cliffhanger we got hit with.
