They might be together, but their trouble's only just begun

Wade is content with his new life.
Free of Christian’s hold over him and wildly in love, he’s happy exploring more of his sexuality and the paranormal world with Caleb on his side.

Caleb is scared the past will repeat itself.
Being back in a relationship is what he wanted...and what he’s scared of the most.
More than the High Council or the Nightcrawlers’ judgement of his chosen partner.

When new witches’ powers awaken across London and supernatural attacks threaten both the human and the witch world, Caleb and Wade are called to action once again.

The extent of their love is put to the test. Who’s hiding behind the attacks? How far will they go to put an end to those terrorizing London?

Demon Heart is an MM urban fantasy with lots of magic, powerful emotions, a passionate blooming romance and a touch of kink.
This is Book 2 in the Blade & Dust series with no cliffhanger and a happy for now ending. Although it can be read as a standalone, it is better enjoyed as part of the series.

After what happened to Christian, Wade and Caleb must deal with the aftermath, but they won’t have time to settle together until they must face a new danger, one they don’t know how to defeat without losing their life.
Wade and Caleb are back for my biggest pleasure. I loved them so much.
After the huge fight with Christian and the somber revelations about the witches council, Caleb and Wade try to find their footing together , but they won’t have this luxury, when almost all the BLADE ‘agents are murdered, witches mysteriously disappear and supernatural catastrophes are thrown against humans , Wade, Caleb and their friends will have to find a way to save everyone.
I adored this book, it was captivating, dynamic and well written with a lot of actions and twists. I loved to see how Wade and Caleb are as a couple and let me tell you, they’re awesome.
The end of the book putted me on edge, I want to know what will happen, don’t worry it’s not a cliffhanger, just a HFN, but I can’t wait to read the next one, I also hope to read more about Hew and Winston…

Another great story, definitely no trace of the dreaded sophomore slump! This book picks up right where the last book ended, and the action is nonstop from there! I love Wade and Caleb, and both of them learning more about themselves and each other. There were some super evil villains, but it was amazing seeing all the different magical species (and the witch hunters!) come together to take them on. Plenty of sexy times, without losing any of the story because of it. This is an amazing urban fantasy story and I’m excited to see where it goes!!

The only thing I’m upset about is Hew and Winston’s story seems to have happened entirely off page. I want to read that!

New adventures for Wade and Caleb, trying to find their way in their world filled with magic, familiar, trolls and all sorts of creatures. This time demons come out of their hiding to mix things up even more! But that’s not the only surprise our heroes are getting!
Exciting, brilliantly written and so addictive, this series is everything you could ask for. And John York’s performance only adds to its magic!

Gimme more!! Steam + Magic

Holy Cow!! Could this series get any better?! I’m seriously so tired and yet couldn’t sleep, why, Demon Heart, book two of the Cursed Hearts series. I’m flying through these books. I love the fantasy! The witches, the night crawlers, the drama. It’s so gripping!! The steamy scenes between Caleb and Wade don’t hurt either. I’m diving in straight to the next book!

Fast paced and tons of action

I really liked the heart of this book. It is an interesting world with villains to loathe and hero’s to cheer. However, there was an over use of everyone shouting and yelling when the scenes didn’t really call for it that took me out of the story at times. I also wasn’t sold on the “kinky” sex; It didn’t feel right for the characters or the scene.

Chaos & Mayhem

I enjoyed this second book a lot more than book one. Chaos & mayhem ensue now after the events of book one and we get an even more intriguing story this time. I really enjoyed reading this story and the narration with the audiobook added to the story quite a bit.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

Demon Heart (Blade & Dust #2) by Rhys Lawless
★★★★☆
220 Pages
POV: 1st person, dual POV
Content Warning: history of drug use, violence

Demon Heart is the second book in the Blade & Dust series. An action-packed adventure, with engaging characters and an intriguing plot, I've found myself submerged in this series. Following a now-established couple through the ups and downs of their budding relationship, while dealing with past hurts and wrongs, exes and mistakes, the story takes you on a journey through emotional chaos as explosive as the very real physical dangers.

Now, don't get me wrong. Not everything about this book, or the author's writing style, is my cup of tea. There are some phrasing choices that aren't my taste, and the subset of D/s and BDSM elements in the central relationship that have them hot for slapping, spanking and choking aren't my thing, but I can look past that because it fits the characters and their personalities.

It picks up the story from a week after the events of book 1. For those who haven't read Book 1 yet – STOP! Go back, and read that first. You might also want to read the prequel short, Foxy Heart, to add a little bit of background and context. This is one of those series where, if you miss a single installation, you're going to get lost. Although the author does a stellar job of recapping events, Book 1 was so detailed with worldbuilding and character background that it would be impossible to retell everything you need to know. So, do yourself a favour, and go back to read Book 1 first.

While the relationship is established, this time, there isn't an excess of sex or mushy scenes, which I liked. It's only been a short time since they came together and you can see that in the way that, while they're attracted to each other, in love and emotionally invested, they aren't at that stage where they put their relationship before everything else in their lives. Thankfully! I like the continuation of Wade's mental struggle, his uncertainty and doubt over his purpose, the continuation of his past drug-addiction and the running plot of his relationship with his brother.

Sometimes, when there's a high octane plot, the author forgets the important pieces that brought the characters to life for the reader and made them real. Such as Caleb's past, his romantic failures, Wade's drug addiction, his relationship with his brother. But, it's only been a week since those things were at the forefront of their minds, and the author hasn't fallen into the trap of forgetting that. They're still important, still brought into the characters lives and thoughts routinely, which is great to see. To maintain a series with the same main characters through each book, there has to be growth and change, and that isn't possible if the author forgets what made us love the characters in the first place. Lawless has done an excellent job of reminding us what makes Caleb and Wade special, without compromising plot or drifting into endless repetition.

And, while I was daunted by the prospect of an extended series, endless spin-offs and such, that the author announced early on, I'm actually not sure if I'll be avoiding them after all. I want to see more of Hew and Winston, from their own POV's, and I got a hint from this book that Ash and Lloyd might be an interesting match. There are plenty of couples that I've seen mentioned or potential couples hinted at, that I'd like to see more of. For now, all I can say is that I'll keep my eyes open for future releases from the author.

I'll be on the look out for Vampire Heart, at the end of January.

description

This series hooked me from the first book and I couldn’t wait to dive back into this world with Demon Heart. From Witches and Witch Hunters to Nightcrawlers and Shifters, this series is a supernatural heaven. Demon Heart takes off right in the middle of the action, and there’s never a dull moment throughout the entire book.

Overall:

This was a great sequel that gave us a closer look into the world of Blade & Dust and kept the action going throughout. I enjoyed watching relationships grow as the witches learned to trust and work alongside the witch hunters. I’m excited to see what else they can accomplish now that they’re united on the same side. I’ll be anxiously awaiting the next book in this series!

I've fallen in love with the main characters in this book! Obviously only as their mum, but they really do need some looking after whilst they find each other and fight everything that's wrong in Witch World!!!

Putting that aside this is another fabulous offering, part two in the series, from Rhys Lawless. It's full of excitement, angst, magic, emotion, taxis, trains, spells, blood, hate, love, crystals, foxes, swords, ravens, wolves, not tigers, witches, witch hunters, familiars, a really angry Goddess and a mum and dad who are just on another planet!!!

Again I loved all the references to places I know and love in and around not only London but also the Isle of Wight, where I live! Rhys Lawless's grasp on his own created world is amazing; his planning for this storyline, which can't be easy as it's not linear, is outstanding. As with book one the pace and action are fast moving. There's no stop/start with this book, you won't need to get up to make a drink because your bored or the story has waned; it just won't happen, there is something happening all the time.

I can't wait to start the next book, it's calling my name already!

I'm totally recommending this book, as well as book 1; you definitely need to read the series in order, they are not standalones xx

Let the dust clear

The battle continues and poor Wade and Caleb can’t catch a break. I think they’re a magnet for trouble and evil as it seems to follow them around, or maybe they court it? I will say that Caleb does not back down and has a spine of steel. In fact, he scares me a little but some people in this world need a fire lit under them. Wade, well, he finds himself with a unique set of problems that were fascinating to watch.

“You and I? We’re meant to be, okay? We fell in love twice in a lifetime.” Gah, these two. I loved seeing the relationship between Caleb and Wade deepen and grow. They make my heart flutter and they’re unbelievably sexy together. I also liked that Winston, Hew and some others had a bigger role as the entire cast of characters intrigue me. What I enjoyed the most about this book was the history that we learned, completely captivating. Surprises and an intense ride await you in this phenomenal world and every new thing we learn makes me wish it would never end.

This is the second installment of an continuing series, so you really must read Killer Heart first in order to understand the fantasy world, the lore that the author has created and where the storyline was left at.

𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 is more full speed action than romance. Caleb and Wade don't even get any respite after the previous book's trials before another enemy needs to be taken down. Only this time everything is kind of extra. Extra characters, good and bad, extra spells and an extra powerful evil to fight. Old alliances brake and new ones form, all unexpected, considering the previous state of relationships between witches, their hunters and the nightcrawlers.

I'll admit I liked 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 a bit more than Killer Heart. There's the added danger,a lot more mythology and also,Caleb and Wade's bond is taken to a new level. The story kept me edgy and anxious to see if our heroes would make it through alive. And the ending is so intriguing that now I can't wait until the next book is out.

Caleb & Wade are fighting again! This time however, they are fighting side by side. Oh, and this time, no one, not witches, not familiars, not demons from hell, not even their closest friends will tear them apart.

It will take a lot of patience on both their parts, especially with Wade manifesting a strange new quirk that keeps causing Caleb harm, and even threatens Wade. He wonders if he will survive this or will it completely consume him and those he loves most, body and soul!?

Too bad that's not the only problem facing the guys. A new and sinister presence has taken over London. It is going to take the combined forces of the Blades, the Nighcrawlers, and the Witches along with a very powerful deity to bring down this evil.

I am really thrilled to have found this series. It is filled with action, humor, and romance.
If you enjoy a good thrill ride filled with magic and supernatural beings This is definitely a series to try.

This book is part of a series, so make sure you start with book one! In this installment, we start in the aftermath of the first, with Wade an ex-witch hunter looking for a new calling while experiencing some distressing magical side effects from earlier ordeals and Caleb desperately trying to figure out the ramifications of opening the ley lines. As you might expect, things do not exactly get easier from there. I love how intricate the mythology of this series is, and how many twists and turns the plot takes— it makes for difficult summary writing, but very exciting reading. It’s great to see Caleb and Wade’s relationship evolve, even against a backdrop of increasingly apocalyptic events. I’d love to see more of Hew and Winston (do they get a book? I would definitely read their book) and some of the other supporting cast, as they’re all super interesting. This series just gets better, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

"Demon Heart" is a worthy sequel to the series. If you enjoyed the first book, you're likely to find this one just as satisfying. While it doesn't bring anything groundbreaking to the table, it offers a new and enjoyable storyline featuring Caleb and Wade.

The book is brimming with magic and action, and while the main plot might not be groundbreaking, it remains consistent and well-crafted. Caleb and Wade's relationship takes meaningful steps forward, and Caleb's character remains true to form, especially when he's called upon to make decisions regarding the coven.

One aspect that falls short is the explicit scenes, which I personally found quite tedious. Additionally, the inclusion of BDSM elements seems somewhat forced, but I understand it's a standard feature in urban MM fantasy, so I simply skimmed through those parts.

In summary, "Demon Heart" is a strong sequel that I would recommend, especially if you're already invested in the series. I'm looking forward to reading the third book.

This is the second book in the series, and I truly feel you need to start reading this series from the beginning.

Our main characters are still together, but things aren’t all sunshine and roses in their lives. I love how devoted they are to each other.

This book is more plot driven then the last one, since the characters are together. It’s full of action and twists, which makes it exciting and engaging.

This story was expertly woven and and well written. I don’t want to keep beating a dead horse, but Lawless is brilliant at world building and getting you to fall in love with his characters. He always leaves you wanting more...but in the best way possible (and not because there’s something missing). I am so glad I found this series after there were several out—I’d die if I had to wait between books.

This book blew me away. There is so much action and story in this book. I loved every second of reading the continued adventures of Caleb and Wade. The new characters, the returning characters, all of the characters are just written so well that you feel a connection to them. I loved the twists and turns that the story took and the big scene at the end was SO GOOD. I loved the scenes between Caleb and Wade, they were pretty steamy and full of emotion, I really enjoy the empath connection that they share. I loved the way that we got to learn more about Wade and see him come into himself; I loved all of the mystery surrounding what was happening to him and learning what was, while not really a shock, was rewarding. The book does a great job of continuing to build this world and I love every bit of it. This is an amazing series and I can't wait to start the next book. I absolutely recommend this book.

Wade and Caleb return in a surprising way. Can’t say much about this book because so much of would be all spoilers. I’ll just say they survived the last danger with their relationship intact. Becoming so close in a short period of time makes Wade wonder if they will burn out. With the secrets of the Witches and Nightcrawlers, his and Caleb’s story is really out of their hands

A lot of times the second book in a series isn’t as strong a story. Not the case with this book. World building continued without taking anything away from the story. Witch lore is different than anything I’ve read. Lots of characters, old and new, involved in the telling of this book. Satisfying (for now) conclusion. This is the second book in the series and I recommend reading the books in order.

I received an arc of this book.

ENG- So then ... then I really liked this second volume, which I devoured. Because pfff it was too good.
We resume a few weeks before the end of the first volume and I liked the fact that the heroes had to deal with the fallout from the events of the first volume. I loved meeting Caleb and Wade and all the characters we had already met in the first. Certain more than secondary characters gain importance in this volume without, however, overshadowing the main duo.
The relationship between Caleb and Wade takes an even stronger turn but things happen naturally and are very well brought by the author.
I liked the track he follows in this second volume. It is original without either departing completely from the themes and the universe of the series.
The defects of the first volume have been corrected and we feel that the author has really made an effort to offer us a lively and different volume 2, which is rarely the case in a second volume.
In summary still a very good volume which devours and which gives really haste to the continuation.

So far I am loving this series. They have to deal with the consequences from the first book which was fun. They also have no time for a break since there are more thing happening. Wade and Caleb have a new danger that they have no clue how to deal with without dying. This book hits the ground running with the action and doesn't give much of a moment for the characters to try to catch their footing or much else. I love getting more of the different species in this world and the world building. There is still a lot of character development and relationship development which I enjoyed a lot. The banter and chemistry are still very hot and alive in this book. Caleb and Wade have a lot to deal with and figure out if they want to solve this mystery and make it out alive. Can't wait for the next book.

Audio review

The continuation of the series was much more interesting than the last, though now I can understand the importance of the circumstances around book one.

Caleb and Wade continue to grow their relationship before taking it to the next level, which I am honestly a little lost as to the purpose. Maybe it had the intention of invoking Avalice or connecting to the universe to save the world from the apocalypse.

John York does another fantastic job bringing these challenges to life. It does help tremendously with his British accent, but there were still a few questionable moments of who was speaking. Wade had the deeper of the two voices, yet there were times when Caleb sounded very familiar.

Either way, an intense and chaotic addition, with a HFN ending, though I feel like there’s more to come in Vampire Heart.

Caleb and Wade are now seen as the enemy on both sides of the witches and the hunters, but new trouble is brewing. Christian and Hew have been possessed by the original demons who created the witch folk, and they intend to wipe out humans and rule the world.

Wade gets in touch with his old hunting partner, Lloyd, and the high council has a few that stand behind them, as well as Lorelai’s familiars.

They discover through Mother Red Cap that the demons had a daughter, Avalis, who was the one who bound them underground, under the ley lines released in the last book.

Caleb and Wade perform a bonding ritual that brings Avalis into Caleb’s body, and she kills the demons this time.

Good story, didn’t like the bonding ritual, but otherwise, an interesting sequel.

Book 2 in the Blade and Dust series and the world-building just keeps getting better. Last we saw our 2 MC’s, Caleb and Wade, they were recovering from a pretty intense battle. But, there are still weird goings on afoot and something potentially dangerous going on with Wade. But, steps leading up to the big climax in this book will have witches and nightcrawlers choosing sides to fight an enemy no one saw coming. When all is said and done everyone will take a stand, and the future of the world hangs in the balance. Caleb and Wade grow closer in their relationship with a surprise twist. The story ends with a HFN, and I am anxiously anticipating the next book in the series.

Great follow up book in this series

I am really enjoying this story so far.

It was as exhilarating as the first book. I couldn't put it down.

It was fast paced, fun, full of action and mystery. I loved the intrigue following what happens at the end of the previous book.

This book answered questions but it raised many more and I just need to know what happens next.

I love Wade and Caleb and I really enjoyed seeing their relationship evolve, as well as their relationship with the people around them. It's a great cast of characters and I wouldn't mind short stories of them all.

I can't wait for the next book

Excellent second book in the series! You would think after surviving the challenges of the first book that Caleb and Wade would have time to recover and solidify their relationship. Right? Nope. More trials and challenges, action and drama, mystery and mayhem, and plenty of surprises fuel this book. I loved the way Caleb and Wade hung on together through it all. You could probably enjoy this book as a stand alone, as I think there is enough background, but I recommend reading Killer Heart first. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Just when I thought things couldn't get any better in this marvelous series, Rhys Lawless proceeded to prove me wrong. This fantastic, fast paced, action packed, raw, gritty, grab-you-by-the-feels, intense, emotionally charged, smoking hot, nail biting, keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat, fascinating, and totally awesome story had me hooked from the very first page. Filled with mystery, magic, madness, mayhem, danger, drama, suspense, more twists and turns than a roller coaster, allies and villains (both old and new) and where nothing and no one are what they appear to be, I would DEFINITELY recommend getting this ASAP!

What is next?

Things start going haywire when a massive leyline pulse starts activating witch powers in those who weren't aware of them before and making the powers go crazy for others. Even Wade seems to be affected. And now Graham wants Caleb to help the high council. As Wade and Caleb try to help those who can't help themselves, something even worse seems to be happening.

I still love these two guys and can't wait to see what happens in the next book. Their relationship is only going to get stronger now. I can't say a whole lot because I don't like to give spoilers in reviews, but it is gonna get interesting!

Demon Heart is Book 2 in the Cursed Hearts series. This enjoyable book continues the story of Wade and Caleb and should be enjoyed after book 1. Wade is having adverse effects of taking spells, or so he thinks. Later to find out it is so different from what he thought was happening. Caleb and Annabel are looking after a now baby Nora. After they thought Christian was dead it seems he's on a killing spree only to find out it isn't Christian at all but a demon god possessing him. Sides are taken and war is waged. This book is action packed and full of adventure and magic but who will be victorious? I'm loving this series and definitely recommend it.
