It's springtime in Spicetown and Mayor Cora Mae Bingham discovers there may be trouble blooming along with the rhododendrons!
With construction in full throttle in the new subdivisions and the income tax filing deadline looming over her head, Mayor Cora Mae Bingham is revamping the Annual Easter Eggs-Travaganza and trying to figure out who is in the Easter bunny suit this year, when a dead body has to be added to her To-Do list.
Spicetown is always fun to visit and I love the characters.....they feel like old friends! The author has created a cozy town filled with mystery, friendship, quirky supporting characters and two main characters - Cora the feisty Mayor and Conrad the police chief who makes sure the Mayor stays out of trouble as they solve cases. I enjoy their "banter" and friendship!
Another nice read from Spicetown but would prefer a less "manly feel mystery" which has been ever-present in this series. Would like to spend more time with Cora and Violet and Peggy and Dorothy and some of the other older women in the community even Miriam. Maybe spend a little more time with just day to day activities and less "police talk"!
This sixth book in the Spicetown mysteries continues with another crime committed in the small town in Ohio. Regular characters gear up for the Spicetown Easter Egg Hunt but a murder victim takes center stage. All the stories in this series portray the everyday lives in a small town where people support and encourage each other and true friends really exist.
The plot is very clever and heartwarming and kept me in suspense all the way. I love that the book focused on Easter and used that as a backdrop to finding out what happened to Joshua Hart.
Wonderfully entertaining ! I want to move to Spicetown! The characters are funny, kind, and you want them as your neighbors! Looking forward to the next installment in this fabulous series.
The annual Easter egg hunt is coming up as well as the deadline for submitting income tax returns. Who is going to put on the Easter bunny suit this year? Why isn't the main tax preparer in Spiceville in his office during his busiest time of year? Why is Miriam Landry so meddling and antagonistic over the new subdivision she's selling lots for?
An interesting read involving the friendly, laid-back town of Spiceville and its citizens. The mayor is stressing over the missing Easter bunny and, having put off her tax return until the last hour, is wondering if she'll have to tackle it herself this year. Conrad, the Police Chief, is hunting for answers re: the whereabouts of the missing tax preparer.
A delightful quick read, low suspense for the most part, though there are a few times when Mayor Cora puts herself into harm's way and you wonder how she'll fare.
Love Spicetown and the town folks. This is such a fun read for Easter. The Mayor, Cora Mae and the Police Chief, Conrad are not only friends but work together keeping Spicetown safe. When at an Easter Egg Hunt the Bunny finds a dead body it seems the whole town has some information to share about the deceased tax accountant and his partner. Learned that Trickery is a root that can be substituted for coffee! Pick up this fun cozy read and enjoy Spicetown folks!
As this book opens Cora Mae Bingham heads out into a bright sunny day only to be taken aback by the brisk breeze. It's trying to be spring in Spicetown but looks are deceiving this time of year. She runs into Saucy as she heads to drop her taxes off at Hart and Grace Tax Offices. Jacob Hart has done always done her taxes, she wouldn't trust anyone else. Saucy has his done since February and is it's now down to wire with only a few more days to file. She's more than a little surprised to find the office closed, this is the busiest time of year for them.
Back at the office Amanda tells her they have an Easter Egg problem, the company they use doesn't have them anymore. Buying a thousand eggs gets pricey every year, they're going to have to come up with some way to get the eggs back.
Chief Conrad 'Connie' Harris is on his way back from a doctor's appointment in Paxton when he calls Cora. He has to give up coffee for two weeks and he's already grumpy about it. She invites him to dinner and then he gets called to a disturbance at the new subdivision. Miriam Landry has caused a lot of problems out that way lately and Conrad needs to put an end to it, she's not even building there so there is no reason for this nonsense.
Both Miriam and her husband Gerard are there, and it seems the house is Jacob Hart's. With it being his busy season Jacob asked Gerard and Miriam to keep an eye on things. However, there seems to be a problem between blueprints and the contract. The contractor won't make any changes without hearing it from Jacob himself. The problem is no one can find Jacob.
When the office is finally open, it's Tim Grace who's in. He doesn't know where Jacob is either. It seems their paths don't cross often. He's not a CPA and Cora isn't comfortable letting him do her taxes.
When Conrad goes to Cora's for dinner their conversation is about Jacob, Miriam, doing her taxes, the easter eggs, the Easter Bunny and the coffee she serves him that has no caffeine.
So far, the biggest mysteries are where is Jacob, who is playing the Easter Bunny, and what kind of coffee is this 😂?
Things heat up when the Easter Bunny finds a body on the edge of the park where the Easter Egg Hunt will happen.
Now they have a murder to solve and it's not going to be easy to solve.
There are plenty of twists and turns as this story plays out. Amanda and Bryan's relationship is still going strong. Cora Mae still pokes into every investigation, and the Easter Bunny Mystery gets solved as well.
I am really enjoying these cozy mysteries. I've already begun reading the next book.
The last book was all about bricoe and where he came from. This book hardly mentions him, much less address the unanswered questions. This is frustrating for the reader
