He’s the predator in the night.
Cold. Ruthless. Hungry.
She’s the prey that can’t stay away.

There are only two ways a human can cross the gates of Bloodstone Institute: as a familiar to one of the Blueblood vampires who attend the elite school or as a snack.

I’m neither, but I have to get in at all costs. My brother made a big mistake, and now I have to fix it by stealing from the most powerful and cruel vampire to ever come to Bloodstone, Lucca Della Morte. If that wasn’t almost suicidal, I need to get it done before the spell concealing my human nature wears off.

But I forget that I’m only pretending to be a vampire. I’m still human and susceptible to Lucca’s dangerous allure. His darkness calls to my soul. His savagery makes my blood sing. I’m falling for the dark prince, craving him in a visceral way that’s frightening and exciting at the same time.

If he discovers my secret, he’ll destroy me. And yet, I can’t help wanting to get closer. I never thought I had a death wish until I met him.

The plot was interesting, but I didn't like much the fact that most of the characters were adults, so the academy thing was kind of unsettling and didn't convince me entirely.

Also, I was not convinced about the romance thing. I didn't vibe with it as I expected because Lucca was being a territorial asshole most part of the time, and no in the good way. Vivienne was okay, I just wished she was more clever and had a bit more of personality.

Some characters were annoying as hell, and others were just fine.

It wasn't thaaaaaaat bad, there were funny and interesting parts. I wanna see more of the dragons because they sound pretty cool.

I need Aurora and Saxon's book. Like. Right. Now.

Strange and mysterious things are happening in the supernatural world!

This was a good story about a Blueblood vampire prince who was cursed by the Nightingale Queen and a human girl who has to steal his bloodstone necklace in order to save her brother who is a drug addict and being held by a powerful dragon shifter. There are some pretty complex things going on which are setting the stage for the series, some of these things were answered and some just led to more questions.

First let me get into fact that’s they are in modern day Salem Massachusetts and everyone is aware of the existence of supernaturals. However, if any of the humans travel elsewhere they start to forget once they get a certain distance away from Salem. Though the heroine Vivienne traveled to New York with her Mother and brother Rikkon when they were young and for some reason after a bit both her and her brother started to remember again while they were still in New York and their Mother didn’t.

The Vampires have a hierarchical society and the Dark Prince is second generation Blueblood, His Uncle the King is first generation. Since the Nightingales left, all vampires except first generation vampires have to recharge every one hundred years by hibernating for twenty five years. Though since Prince Lucca Della Morte was cursed, he has been hibernating longer each time and they fear that next time he won’t wake up if the curse is not broken.

The reason Lucca was cursed and the reason the Nightingales left are all tied up in the same story which I won’t get into, plus it has to do with a war between two factions of the vampires and an ongoing issue that Lucca has with one specific rival vampire that is in his face all the time. So that is one of the storylines in this book as well.

What I didn’t really quite understand is that the setting is at this place called Bloodstone Academy. Apparently Lucca is there because he just woke up after hibernation so he is supposed to be boning up on current events and getting his strength back. Lucca’s blue blooded friends and sister all are attending with him because they want to hang out with him or for moral support or whatever. Though every time he drinks from a human he gets all the memories and information from her blood so school is really unnecessary.

Then there are a bunch of “Regular” or non blue blood vampires that attend the Academy and they are in these Keeper classes where they learn to defend the blue bloods. Vivienne is given this potion that is a magic glamour so she can pass as a vampire for nearly a month and she goes to the academy as a regular. She even says she doesn’t get why or how the regulars are supposed to protect blue bloods when blue bloods are stronger and faster. It should be the other way around.

There are a few more things that are going on in the story that are obviously setting up future books because they are left as open questions or just odd things that happened but are never answered. But the romance between Lucca and Viv is pretty steamy and it is interesting to see how a human girl navigates around the world of vampires while pretending to be one. There are a few pretty odd situations Viv gets into. Overall I enjoyed the book and what can I say, I just love the Vampires!

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Very good vampire romance! I enjoyed the storyline and the storytelling was great as well. I really loved this spin on vampires and prince Lucca was a sexy young vampire with good looks who was very likeable. And Vivienne was awesome as well. They had a great chemistry and some really good steamy scenes. Their was action and bad vamps and a lot of laugh out loud humor. And some great secondary characters like Saxon a sexy smart vamp with plenty of swagger. And high witch in training Aurora were just some of my favorites. This was a stand alone, but their are more books in this series. I will definitely check them out down the road. Until next time Luv's💕💋

Re-read via Audiobook:

The book is told in dual points of view via dual narration. Troy Duran and Mindy Kennedy do the narration and both do a great job of it. Troy Duran is my favorite narrator, I love his voice. Mindy Kennedy is a good reader and has a youthful voice which is perfect for the eighteen year old Vivian. I liked this version as much, if not more than when I read it a few years ago.

**UPDATE 3/29/23** After rereading in preparation for Apollycon 2023, I have to say that I was completely hooked in Lucca and Vivi's romance this time around! I've read a few other books by Michelle, and I've come to understand her writing style more which allowed me to fully immerse myself into this book. I'm so glad I decided to give this series another chance, and I am looking forward to meeting Michelle in a few weeks! Overall, 4.5 stars🖤

Tropes: fated mates, royal vampire/human pairing, alpha hero, heroine with a hidden past, hate-to-love-you, STEAMY🔥

*******************************************
Stupid is as stupid does. That's for sure. I've turned into a walking cliché, yearning for the bad boy. Fuck me.

Hmm. This novel wasn't the dark and brooding vampire novel I was hoping for, but it sure as hell kept me intrigued the entire way through. For me, this novel just simmered around lukewarm and never made me fully feel something. The danger felt watered down and not life-or-death. The romance felt like I was witnessing it through a one-way mirror, able to see it but unable to fully connect with the characters on the other side, even though there was some seriously steamy scenes here. I felt like I was just following the story along as it went without a care of the destination.
I have never been a merciful Blueblood, and I don't think I've changed. I can be a great ally or a terrible enemy.

Despite all of that however, I was unable to stop reading this story. Even though Lucca wasn't the complete asshole, brooding vampire I was hoping for, he was angsty and self-sacrificing enough to keep my attention. Vivi had enough dimension to be a likable heroine, and she actually ended up surprising me with her determination and perseverance. However, my favorite part of the novel was the relationships between the side characters. I have a feeling that so many angsty and forbidden-love relationships are coming soon in the next novels, and you can be damn sure that I will be devouring them as well. Especially after that last scene with Aurora and Saxon!!

My Lucca Della Morte and the coveted necklace...

DISCLAIMER: I picked this up because I wanted to read some bad wrong vamps.

*cough* DARK *cough*

This is not that.

This is more new adult/emo vamps that would squeal and run away if faced with Eric Northman AND Eric Northman ain't even that bad!

However, I did finish it mostly because of the world building which is pretty good. On the other hand the Mary Sueing is godawful. What's the draw of Mary Sue? I really don't get it but I guess I'm not on the in crowd mailing list.

I'm kind of interested in the rest of the series but... probably won't. It got long winded and I'm clueless as to why we have to refer to everyone as 'male' or female' rather than by their actual name or why can't we just say 'them'??? Or him? Or her?

Plus... the sex was lame. And did I mention the "dark" prince is emo af. And moony. Don't get me wrong I'm a squishy marshmallow but when I saddle up to the bad wrong table I don't really know what to do with myself when I get served moony.

So... somewhere in the 2ish stars range? Maybe 3 if I squinty and do a head tilt.

It's no surprise that having really enjoyed reading her Gifted Academy series, I would enjoy this one too.
I am so looking forward to Aurora and Saxon's book.

I was lured by the blurb and all the highly rated reviews here on GR but sadly, this one didn’t work for me. I felt like the story and the character development was just on the cusp of being fully fleshed out. Too many dropped hints for (1) future books with the other couples and (2) regarding the overall plot that ties the series together; but not enough, imo, time spent with the MC’s and going deeper into their thoughts and feelings.

I was looking for snark and banter but didn’t find any. Snark, flirty banter, and humor are so important to me enjoying a book.

I also don’t understand or see the moment when they fell in love. They some how... just did?

He’s cursed and when he smells her blood, he’s in thrall, in bloodlust, and that somehow transforms to forever love??? I must have missed the big cinematic moment.

And boy, that plot twist at the end, well... it had me rolling my eyes.

Sorry but I’m not picking up the rest of the series.

This book was so much more than I was expecting. I knew this was a paranormal romance, but I thought it would just be about run-of-the-mill, bloodsucking vampires. While the vampires do suck blood, it’s clear from the start that there is so much more to it than that. The amount of work that the author put into worldbuilding is quite phenomenal. I love the way that magic works in this world. Hercules includes so many details, yet it never feels overwhelming, and I was impressed by the sheer creativity of the different types of vampires, the curses, the history of the bluebloods, the mysterious nightingales... (Also, there was a dragon shifter! I’ve never read a book about dragonshifters before--yes I’ve seen the plethora of romances featuring them, but I haven’t actually read one about them before. This one was just a side character, but colour me intrigued!)
Vivienne and Lucca have a great dynamic, and I love the way they’re both deceiving each other throughout the book--all while gradually falling in love. We’re also introduced to the couple featured in the second book. The author used a clever epilogue to trick me into reading a sneak peek into their plotline.
All in all, this is a 5-star read, and I’m looking forward to getting lost again in this paranormal version of Salem, Massachusetts.

This book is so awful it deserves 4 stars.

It includes centuries old vampires acting like teenagers while attending their version of high school. In line with the high-school theme, these old as hell characters engage in a ton of pettiness. In fact there are cliques; mean girls, a prince who dominates the school with his clique and the posse who kowtows to them.

The prince also happens to be the douche-bag romantic interest of the FMC in this instant obsession saga. Add some wild combination of teen angst, blood lust, a huge heaping of entitlement and a bully on rampage... because, of course, what is more cliche than a bully who exists for bullying sake. There you have it! The plot!!

Everything, including the writing style, is so incredibly juvenile and so delightfully screwed up that I’m almost tempted to pick up the next book.

This is the setting of a new series around supernatural, think vampires, witches, shifters …and a perfect read in these quarantine time when the brain can’t focus on anything slow paced or uber complicated.

This story was easy to read, compelling, distracting from the doom and gloom with just the right amount of hotness and cocky vampires!

The plot in a nutshell: Vivienne or Vivi has been blackmailed by a Dragon kingpin to steal something from a very powerful vampire Lucca Della Morte.

She’ll go, disguised thanks to a spell, to the Bloodtsone academy and will try to get her prize.

But of course, there is the slight problem of her major attraction to Lucca…

In the beginning, I didn’t care a lot for Lucca.

He was so arrogant, cocky and certainly a pr!ck!

I even noted on my Kindle:

“Ha. He is so full of himself! So arrogant. I want to see him taken down his pedestal.”

Vivi was nothing special either as her first encounter with Lucca left her trembling. She was rather like a mouse going into the lion’s den. Unassuming. No super power. Just human and caring too much for someone to let him down. Willing to risk her life for others.

It was amusing to see her so clueless about vampire traditions and society yet trying to blend in that academy.

Lucky for me, soon enough, she unleashed her claws and she no longer cowered in Lucca’s presence.

As their relationship progressed (read Lucca toying with his food and Vivi falling under his spell) Lucca went from predator to very intrigued by Vivi!

It also gave me some Twilight vibes as Lucca is irresistibly attracted to Vivi’s blood yet fights his desire to protect her life. Rings a bell?

But Lucca and Vivi’s relationship is not the only trope in that book as you have many secrets to discover, interesting side characters who will probably be the main characters of other books in the series and a curse to destroy.

What prevents me for giving me more than four stars?

I think I would have loved getting more witty banter. I know that Michelle can be so funny and I missed that side.

Vivi’s inner thoughts were a valiant attempt at bringing humor but I wanted even more.

Come on Michelle, bring on the big guns as I know that you excel at this!

You need a fast paced, easy to read supernatural story filled with cocky males and spunky heroines? Don’t look further.

Do you love books with vampires?

Thanks for reading!

So I have been yearning for specifically a vampire fantasy book to read for a few weeks now, and I came across this in my feed on Goodreads and I was instantly intrigued-cause why not?

This was a great and fascinating read because this had an air of young adult fantasy with the ooze of lustful goodness.

The characters were written well. The characters were indeed expected, but remember when I said this had an air of young adult fantasy? Yup. Those are the characters, but I’m not mad though! Lucas was written so well, and even Vivi was written pretty well.

Here’s my criticism:

The ending about Vivi and Lucas and such was not built up well. I thought everything was built in the angst of the story/plot, but when that bomb shell was dropped (read it and figure out what I’m talking about)- it seemed out of no where. It just wasn’t planned out well.

This hit the vampire fix I wanted, and this is a new author for me too! I’m satisfied

4.5 star rating.

PS. This is NOT young adult fantasy. I mean the cover is deliciously adult, but I just wanted to clarify lol

who doesn't love a vampire ''bully'' romance?

basically, she needs to save her brother, and in order to do that she needs to steal a necklace from a powerful vampire, and now he wants revenge.

this is very addictive and so freaking fun! there's a mystery and a good romance, also steamy scenes and the second couple seems to be even better

11-4-21 Quick re-read because I want to read her brother’s book which SCREAMS OW drama. This isn’t literary gold by any measure, but I’ll read damn near anything with a vampire and it didn’t suck. 😏

*******************
Story of Lucca and Vivienne. He’s a vamp prince, and she’s a human tasked with stealing from him to save her brother. I liked this, it kept me up to finish it, and I didn’t skim much… it just wasn’t what I was expecting. I’m not sure if it was the cover, or in my head, but I was expecting something edgy and dark. I wouldn’t call it YA, because there’s tons of sex and mature content, (like screwing and biting multiple humans) but the characters are at school… so it did have a bit of that magic-HS teenager feel to it.

The couple gets off to a rocky start, and Lucca’s pretty hot-headed with a hunger for violence, but he’s not a bully or cruel to Vivienne, and once they’re in… they’re in deep… with darling this and darling that. There’s plenty of action, and a few twists to keep you going. It’s also told in dual POV’s which I prefer, so I know what both are feeling.

Bottom Line- I liked it, but didn’t LOVE it, and probably won’t continue the series. Which is ok because they’ll be in the other books, but their story feels complete. It’s not YA, but the 500+ yr old characters don’t really act like adults either.

"I shouldn’t be sending him away. The whole point of me coming here was to get close to him and steal his damn necklace. But I’m afraid of what his constant proximity is doing to me. I shouldn’t be craving his touch when I know how bad he can be."

This was a really unexpected surprise, a good one😍.

Dark Prince in the first in the Bluebloods series by Michelle Hercules who was a new to me author. This is Lucca and Vivi's story.

Vampires, witches, shape shifters and humans, all enrolled at an elite vampire training school.

Great story line and some steamy scenes 🔥🔥.

Loved it. ♥️🖤

On to book 2....

This book 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙨 me. I did not much have high expectations diving into this paranormal world, and I'm glad that I ended up liking 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 more than I was hoping to.

The story pacing was good, there's a bit of angst, drama, and hate to love aspect thrown in, and yes the book was predictable at times. Nevertheless, I like the narrative structure, so yeah I truly had a great time reading this one.

Dark Prince is a sexy vampire paranormal romance with a dark academy setting, which I absolutely loved! If you enjoy protective romance, hidden identity trope I super recommend this spicy read 🔥

Vivianne has no choice but to pose herself as a vampire so she can get in to the most elite vampire academy: Bloodstone Institute. She must succeed in stealing from the most dangerous vampire there is to save her brothers life. But what happens when she starts to fall for the sexy vampire she has to deceive?

I love their romance, the chemistry is undeniable. One of my favorite elements of the story though was the dark academy setting. It's the perfect amount of spooky and dangerous, with dark catacombs hiding threatening secrets and elite vampires you don't want to mess with.

I listened to the audiobook version and I couldn't recommend it enough. Lucca's voice is so sexy I still play it around in my head 😅

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy!

Oh, holy wow, this book was so good and such a surprise! I did not expect to enjoy this book so much. I was just pulled in by the cover. It turned out to be a very good vampire paranormal romance. I won't give too much away (well, I will with spoiler tags) but it had so much of my fave tropes!

💖 Evil other guy comes after his woman and he's all frantic and protective.
💖
💖 Make me cry avowals of love between the H and h
💖 Hero protective of her all the time even when he doesn't want to be.
💖 Hero possessive (swoon worthy scene!)

In the beginning Lucca is a jerk to Vivienne but since she basically tried to steal from him, it makes sense. Vivi is terrified of vampires but for her brother she will risk facing her fears. However, there is something about Lucca that draws her to him. Their story is an intriguing one. Neither one can fight the feelings they have for one another.

Although the ending felt a little rushed I still very much enjoyed the book. Honestly, I wish it could've been a little longer so we could've explored more between Lucca and Vivi. The book doesn't really end on a cliffhanger but not everything gets wrapped up in this book. There is more story to tell about this world. The next book doesn't come out until December of this year so we have a wait.

The author has many other books out there but the majority of them are Reverse Harem which is so not my thing but this one is definitely worth a read. I enjoyed it so much!!! Give it a try!

Quotes & Faves:

I reach over, sliding my hand to the back of her head and grabbing a fistful of her hair. “You’re crazy if you think I’m going to let you get near that depraved male.”

“Let me? I’m not your property.”

My arm snakes around her waist, pulling her closer to me. Boone and his punishment get pushed to the background. The reason I kicked Manu out of her own apartment becomes the only thing that matters now. I’m here to stake my claim, to finally let the crave win.

“No, but you’re mine.”

“You’re beautiful,” he says just before he leans down and tenderly kisses me.

I capture her beautiful face between my hands. “You deserve to be avenged, darling. Many times over.”

He eases back, looking into my eyes. “I’d move mountains, shake the very fabric of the universe to get to you.” Can. He. Not. Gah.

You’re the most precious being I’ve ever met. You’re my soul, the sun to my midnight heart.” OK, he can stop any time now. Good Lord. Swoon.

Please read this book! :)

The dark prince awakens after sleeping for 95 year to a truce that has his blood boiling in rage. What he doesn't expect is a human to try and steal his necklace, unsuccessful in her initial attempt he is shocked and curious to find her within the walls of Bloodstone pretending to be something she is not.

I don't know if it's just my mood right now, but this wasn't the tantalisingly dark and dangerous read I was hoping for. The heat between Lucca and Vivienne didn't lash of the page. For the life me I cannot remember Vivienne's nickname, something that usually doesn't happen.

Some interesting secondary characters, but I haven't finished this wanting to continue with the series.

I don't know how I feel about this one.

The first half was good. The vampires were ruthless, I loved how Lucca was strong, dark and filed with hatred. His relationship with Vivienne was steamy, and the story packed with action. On the other hand, Vivienne was a bit too weak-minded for me, but I was expecting it with a bitlit. The school setting (even if it didn't really serves the story) reminded me of Vampire School, which is cool.

My problem resides with the other half of the book. Lucca suddenly became very tamed, calm and even cute ( ????? )

The love story bloomed from NOWHERE. There were a lot of things about it that made me cringe. It was cheesy AF, but not the heartwarming type, more the " ugh that's creepy " type.

So yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about the Dark Prince. I flew through the pages, it was very addicting and fast-paced, steamy (the sex scenes were well written), but there was a lot of incoherences and I didn't feel attached to the characters. It's not a bad book. I guess for a bitlit it's okayish, but this could've been much better.

I will not read the second book, which is sad. I was looking for a good vampire book after " The vampire debt " from Ali Winters.

Anyone has any recommendation ?

The plot is very creative. I think the book had a lot of potential; it just almost felt like child writing. Even the sex wasn't so hot. I felt like it could have been written better.
I still have some questions about the Nightingales. What are they? And why did they create the vampires? Why is it Tatiana vs. King Raphael? Tatiana is also a vampire, right?
Also, they fell in love fast. Even though they're both centuries old, maybe it was just the fact that they were at this academy that made them seem like they were in high school, they seemed like 18-19 years old to me.
I would have liked to know why Larsson wanted Lucca's mother's necklace too.
Also, the way the beginning is written it seems like Vivienne wants to become a famous singer...

Dark Prince is the first book in the Blueblood vampire series and I was hooked from beginning to end. The story was engrossing and engaging with twists and turns you won't see coming. Lucca and Vivienne's story will have you at the edge of your seat frantically turning the pages. It was a perfect mix of suspenseful yet romantic, angsty and steamy and I loved these characters. The author did a great job with world building and introducing us to this new world and I can't wait to see there she takes this series. It was an excellent start to this new series and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of paranormal romance.

Do przeczytania i zapomnienia.

I am SO obsessed with this book!! Vampires own my soul and I am especially WEAK for these Blueblood vamps. Also forever in love with Lucca and Vivienne’s tumultuous romance. I definitely plan to keep binging this series because I’m desperate to know more about each and every one of the characters we meet in this first installment!

Highly recommended for fans of dark academia paranormal romance settings like the Crave series, and of course vampire romance lovers in the mood for fast-paced spice!

Thank you so much to the author for sending me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions expressed above are entirely my own.
