In order to uphold the law--he's going to need to break a few. After returning from crossing the Badlands on a weapons run, Chief Zeke Phoenix of the Paranormal Police Department finds his precinct taken over by The Company, Rake Masters, and a ton of corruption.
Masters exploits Zeke's biggest flaw, his honorability. A plan is set to exterminate Zeke Phoenix and every member of his team...with extreme pain. To start, the fake PPD brands the real PPD as criminals, telling everyone in Infernal City to take them down.
That ties Zeke's hands, forcing him to beat Masters at his own game.
In other words, in order to do the right thing, Zeke has to do plenty of wrong. He must dive into the criminal element and create his own gang, setting himself up to embrace a life of crime. But will it ever get that far? With luck, no, but Zeke is beginning to learn that sometimes honor and duty don't go hand in hand.
If Zeke and his crew don't pull this off, The Company will have complete control of Infernal City, Masters will wield an unfathomable amount of power, and every member of the Badlands PPD will be left gazing lifelessly at the sky.
Crime. Corruption. Chaos.
A regular day in the life of a PPD chief in the Badlands...

Well this book played out really well in the storyline for #3. I think Phoenix really starts exploring his strengths as a Dragon. Rose really pushes him and she is a good foil for him also. I have questions still that I’m sure will be answered in the next book, but I really enjoyed this PPD book. It continued a great story and left us hoping for more. I really can’t wait to see where the next books will take us!
Whew that was a good one! We finally got to see another of Chief Phoenix's escapades as he and his second Rose get into more trouble than a fox in a hen house. The PPD was taken over by a master criminal...Masters and now the Chief is determined to get it back. How he doesn't know, but Rose with all of her...well... dangerous connections shall we say manages to get doors opened for them. The chief is in a position now where he is pulled two ways. Be honorable or be bad. Get killed by his mom, the Valkyrie, or by the bad guys. He doesn't know which is worse. His baby brother, a "Bragon" is another issue that he has to deal with, but oh well, his mother won't take him back. Now Chief, Rose and the gang must pull together and take over their PPD. Can the Chief get his "Big boy panties" on in time to make a difference? A must read in the series and definitely well worth the read. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
This is the third in the series, and takes place right after they have returned from their weapons run, and even as fun as that was… They come home to find that Bradly has taken over with a little help from Masters and the Company. So what else is one to do? Well, become criminals of course. Zeke has a little problem with that, along with having to tell his Mom that he is becoming one, and keeping his brother Pear, the bragon, safe, well as safe as you can keep a bragon.
Bernard is back with a whopping secret love life, that may or may not help out the PPD gang, Along with Master dropping a little secret that means there should be another book coming out.
All in all a great book and I look forward to reading the next one.
Wow, what a ride...Zeke, Rose & all their PPD team are really up against it from the first page to the last. The story, plot, action, magic, weapons, fun, dark humour, love, bravery, strength...you name it, this book has it! You learn a lot about the individual team members characters, but in particular, the relationship between Zeke & Rose his deputy . This is a great addition to the series that you will not be able to put down and leave! I highly commend this book and totally recommend it to all.
Zeke tried doing things the PPD way, but Masters stole the precinct from them, installing criminals as a faux police force. To get it back, he'd have to unleash his inner dragon to reclaim it. But, with the old ways not working, he'd need to it another way. The Badlands Way. Unlikely alliances, rip-roaring action, and hilarity light the way as he harnesses his inner instincts to fight the impossible battle. This time, to beat the criminals, he and his squad would have to become them. Another great, white knuckled tale from the Badlands.
Humor, action, great characters! This story has it all wrapped up in a well-written story. (Really?! Stochastic? I haven’t seen that word used since college.) And I just love that Accountants are bad guys. Each of the characters is unique and I have really enjoyed their development, especially Zeke’s. Zeke starts out young and idealistic and becomes...(read the book)! This book is great and I can’t wait for the next one!
Third book in the Badlands PPD. I love the way the characters are developing in this series. A band of misfits that made a family. The pace is fast from start to finish with many interesting “reveals” that provide more questions than answers. Questions like who is a virgin? Where did the Chief come from? Why did Rose become a PPD officer? Great read and fun storyline. Dragons kick ass!
Having just returned from a weapons run, zeke phoenix finds his precinct has been taken over by the master. What can him and his team do? Queue ingenious characters and plenty of action and comedy and you find out exactly in another highly witted and entertaining book brought to you by the excellent authors of the Zeke Phoenix series of ppd books. This fast paced and highly humourous book will enthrall you right from the start.
All hell has broken loose and whats worse is Zeke is going to finally lose his temper, which means their is a change in the area with extreme violence and some wise cracking. With him is his team with nothing to lose except their sense of Law and Order. A great series of battles and a few interesting reveals as we spend more time with our favourite badland PPD
It felt like a long time in between books, but it was totally worth the wait! Sometimes the good guys have to do bad things, and it feels totally justified. That ending was satisfying! Great characters and I really applaud the author's restraint in not always busting out Zeke's dragon badassery at every sign of trouble. Speaking of Zeke - and this may be my only complaint - I think his actual first name was only mentioned a handful of times in the entire book with the first mention about 60 - 70 pages in! He's your brand, your bread and butter; don't make me have to dig to remember his name!
The action and dialog move well and really keep you engaged. So fun having all the personalities of the assorted underworld types: dragons, hellions, trolls, valkyries, and others, and interesting combinations of those. And there is plenty of mayhem and explosions to please us action-lovers (please can I blow something up, now?) This is refreshingly original and fun to read. Loved the snark, especially.
This book continues the wild and wonderful story of Zeke, his team, and their exploits in dealing with the various bad guys. The characters are brilliantly crafted and more of their individual stories become apparent in this book. Adventurous, entertaining and funny. Highly recommended.
Book 3 was a high octane run through the insanity that is the Badlands! Action, adventure and snark abound ! Masters has given some clues about Zeeks origins but is on the run, Mona the. Hellion had all kinds of tech stolen but didn't tell Zeke the truth of and bonding happened with Pear! What a story bring on the next one!!!
This one is so good! Glad to see the Chief starting to come into is own! Without a doubt it's a wild ride to take back the PPD. Just how wild? Getting to reading this one to find out. You won't be disappointed! Plenty of mayhem!
My expectations are now always high with the PPD series, both for narrative, storyline and humour. The authors have yet again outdone themselves with this outing, surpassing my hopes and truly delivering a GREAT READ!
Dragons Rule. Zeke is ready to take back control of PPD headquarters from Masters and his crew. But can Zeke and his small crew confront the overwhelming odds and win? Can Zeke release his inner Dragon and win the day? A must read story.
A rather good supernatural thriller overlaid with gang warfare and organised crime Interesting family dynamic which will no doubt become clearer as the series proceeds.
first two books really set the scene characters and pace. watching the badlands ppd really come into their own was a helluva lot of fun. zeke and silk revealed their inner spirit.
Oh wow! Zeke and crew are in for one wild ride. They have to become what they try to stop in their effort to take back the Badlands PPD building. Some questions get answered but others arise. How did he end up being raised by valkyries? What about Pear? Zeke's little brother is still hanging out with big brother. You see a little more about him, what he can do. Is he really as unintelligent as he seems? What about when he goes all bragon and suddenly he sounds like a freaking genius? What about Francis, did he sell them out? Will Silk ever shut up?!
Zeke is growing, learning to trust his instincts. Don't want to spoil anything but he starts using more of his innate abilities. All in all just a fun time. You do come away with questions but not in a bad way. The story ends well, some things are cleared up but you find yourself asking what about. . . . Sit down, buckle in, and get ready to take off on another crazy adventure in the PPD world. Just read the darn thing. You'll be glad you did.
Phoenix is back with a code honor or vengeance? This was a wild and wonderful ride through the Badlands. Absolutely entertaining. Orlando and John nailed it (I know, phrasing). Rose by any other name is just as deadly. Love the character evolution. Action packed with plenty of hilarity and snark. Awesome PPD book.
Used to be on ARC team for all logsdon's books, nut got tired of all the typo-s and confusing sentences having to be read several times over and the fact as legally blind I was still catching the issues that the huge team of readers, who go free copies of the books, had still missed, and while orlando's tend to have less issues overall, there were still issues in this one. It is my understanding that he is doing 1 more of this series, and Noah {asian ppd} is doing just 1 more {5th or 6th, with some shorts too}, and hopefully will get time now to check out montague and strong series.
