Publisher's summary

A strict older man. A sassy film star. Can opposites attract?

After taking early retirement from the police force, Liam is happy avoiding people and tending to his roses. Or he was, until Felix moves in next door.

Felix is taking a break from his acting career, even though he's on the cusp of stardom. With his cheeky, persistent, and very naughty behavior, he gets under Liam’s skin instantly.

Felix needs someone who can set him boundaries - man who can handle him firmly, but with love. Liam doesn't think he needs anyone, until Felix brings much needed sunshine into his life.

Will Felix choose stability and love, or a life of glitz and glamour?

A Boy Made of Sunshine is a light hearted gay romance with a grumpy ex-detective, a brash new neighbor, a cute Dalmatian puppy, and lots of brattish behavior.

A fun age gap, opposites attract!

This was an adorable age gap romance with light daddy kink amd low on the angst.
It features one grumpy ex cop, one cheeky neighbor, an adorable Dalmatian puppy and a whole lot of feels.
This book really made me smile and I absolutely adored Felix.
If you love a sweet sunshine and grumpy, opposites attract romance, low on the angst and high on the steam, I definitely recommend this one.
Dan Calley did a commendable job on the narration which made listening to this even more enjoyable.

Fun but a bit hollow

As a kid, did you ever get a great big foil-wrapped chocolate bunny for Easter, only to bite one of the ears off and discover it was hollow? Sure, the chocolate was still delicious, and you enjoyed it while it lasted. But remember somehow feeling disappointed because you’d expected more? This book sort of gave me that feeling. What’s here is delicious, but it left me somehow feeling let down that there wasn’t more to it. I think that my problem is that we learn almost nothing about the main characters beyond what we surmised whilst reading the blurb. The characters are superficially charming. The steps in the rom-com ritual are all here. But on some level, their lack of personal detail made it feel a bit like we were just going through the motions.

I still don’t really get the whole daddy/boy BDSM vibe, and parts still feel a bit silly to me, but this is a charming tale of irrepressible an ex child-star (13 movies by age 24) and a curmudgeonly retired ex-cop that may have once been a dom but is now quite literally gathering his rosebuds after taking early retirement.

Dan Calley does another credible role as narrator; ably voicing both Liam, the gruff retired detective, and Felix, the ever perky film star, hankering to have someone who’ll care enough to teach him to behave. Dan’s rendition of Felix’s agent Emma is a bit weird but for a British guy doing an American woman it’s not bad.

This tale is about as low-key, low angst as they come. Both main characters are likable and you’re rooting for them from chapter one. If the Hallmark channel were ever to do a BDSM Christmas movie, these are the guys they’d feature. Although how Hallmark would handle the frequent graphic scenes might be problematic.

Overall, this was a fun, care-free romp that I enjoyed, but it’s lack of depth will probably keep it out of my frequent replay list.

it was good

I enjoyed this book, but it was not near as angsty as I expected. actually, I would say there was little to no angst at all, it was all pretty much sunshine.
one thing I did not really like was the narrator's American accent for the character of Emma, but that was only a small part towards the end so not enough to ruin the experience for me.

A neighbors sweet romance with a touch of BDSM

Liam loves his quiet neighborhood especially his house and gardens. When the house next door gets sold he worries about the change. Watching the movers bring in the mismatched furniture and wild decorations he is sure his simple life is ending.

Felix notices the man next door watching and goes to meet him. They are different as night and day but Felix finds it fun to push Liam’s buttons.

This is a very fun, sweet and sexy, daddy/boy kink story. Low angst and just right to put a smile on your face. I just wish there had been more back story on Liam especially.
Dan Calley did a great narration bringing both characters to life.

Loved Felix and Liam!!

Seriously loved Felix and Liam!! Felix was a child actor filled with naughty thoughts about his new neighbor Liam who he wants to be his Daddy. Liam is a retired constable who just wants some quiet, but Felix knocks down his "fence". This was sooo good. I absolutely loved Felix and Liam. Dan Calley, as always did a fantastic job with the narration.

Excellent Daddy/ boy Romance

A Boy Made of Sunshine (audiobook)
MMy Thoughts and Review:

I sort of assumed this would be like most other age gap romances, where the two guys hit it off and there was a nice story filled with a couple of steamy scenes, some clever dialog, and then the inevitable HEA. I should have known better with this being a Colette Davison novel. Nothing is simple or easy for the characters in her stories. And thank the stars for it, because it is what brings devout readers (like me) coming back time and again.

This is a fabulously told tale about a retired detective, Liam, who likes keeping away from people, because humanity as a whole has turned dark and oppressive. His years on the force have shown him just how terrible people can be to one another and he no longer wants to be part of society.

A new neighbor has moved in next door and he has brought every flamboyant color of the rainbow with him, and maybe a few that have yet to be discovered. Felix is filled with light and warmth and while he is taking a break from his acting career for a moment he is making it his mission to break the barrier surrounding the neighbor’s hardened heart and maybe let a little sunshine in.

Liam on the other hand thinks his sassy and misbehaving neighbor needs a few lessons that only a qualified and seasoned Dom can teach. With any luck, by the end of the lessons Liam will have Felix well in hand calling him, “Daddy,” and Liam will have a gift he never thought he would have again… “A Boy Made of Sunshine,” to call his own.

I do believe out of all Colette’s books I have read so far; this story has been my favorite. I love Daddy/ boy and age gap stories anyway and Liam and Felix together were wonderful. Liam was such a curmudgeon and Felix an honest ray of sunshine that you could not help but cheer them on.

If you are looking for some very sMMexy Daddy/ boy kink with heart, look no further. This one will give you all the feels you wish. Guaranteed!

Full of Sunshine and love

Colette Davison has written another beautiful story and picked a narrator who has brought it to life.

STORY: 5 STARS
A Boy Made of Sunshine is lighthearted, fun, full of love and understanding, and has the right amount of humor and emotion. It's lighthearted and will give you the warm fuzzies...like you are full of sunshine. Well-written with a flow that will pull you in, demanding that you turn to the next page. And when you are done, you are not ready for it to end. I loved Liam and Felix. Their personalities were as different as night and day...for the most part, but they belonged together and brought out the very best in each other. Their story, with the growing pains, emotions, and personalties comes through brilliantly in this book.

NARRATION: 4.5 STARS
Dan Calley did a great job of bringing both Liam and Felix alive. He was able to highlight their nuances, and his voice flowed with the words he spoke. My only issue was, there were times I wish there was more of a distinction between the two voices. But I barely noticed that.

OVERALL: 4.5 STARS
Great story, wonderful narration, and a must-read or listen to. I highly recommend this book and overall give it 4.5 stars.

Story: 3.5 - story with depth and heart

I’m always honest in my reviews, but I’m going to go a step further in this one. I am going to tell you that I don’t dive very deep into kink. I respect it, but it’s very much not for me. Now, before you start judging me, yes, I read the blurb. I knew what the book was going to include. I did make sure to research if it had age play or ABDL, and upon receiving the answer I was looking for, I decided to give it a go. The ONLY reason I even entertained the idea was the fact that it was written by Colette Davison. I’ve read quite a few of her books and have truly enjoyed them. She’s a great writer, and I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to listen to it.

This story includes two very, very different men. They weren’t the same age, didn’t have similar temperaments, their interests were different, and they had different life experiences. Felix was the light to Liam's darkness and the cheerfulness to his grumpiness. I loved Felix’s various nicknames for Liam. Grumpy bear was my favorite. Grumpy older men are my kryptonite. Felix didn’t shy away from showing his interest, but Liam fought it tooth and nail. Well, until Felix poked the bear...could it become more? Could these men find a spot in each other’s lives?

The story was well written, and the characters were very well developed. I really enjoyed their relationship arc. There was plenty of steam, and if you enjoy BDSM with daddy/boy elements to it, you will really enjoy the steamy moments. Their relationship in the bedroom very much played into their story outside of the bedroom, so for this story, it couldn’t go without it. It’s a big part of who our leading men are. Even I wouldn’t suggest separating it from them.

Dan Calley did a phenomenal job, as always, bringing these men to life. He puts so much emotion, behind his narration, that you can truly sense it. I feel like he was the perfect narrator to tell this story.

I loved the book and I loved the audio.

I really enjoyed this book when I read it when it was first released back in June 2020. Dan Calley's great performance allowed me to enjoy it even more the second time around when I listened to the audiobook. I admit that it took me a few books to get used to his accent (US gal here LOL) but once I did (several books ago) I became a fan.

There's not much else I can add to what I said when I reviewed the book (see below).

A little bit kinky but so sweet!

Daddy/boy stories haven't been among my favorites but I seem to have been reviewing a lot of them lately and they are growing on me. A Boy Made of Sunshine is one that I really enjoyed. It's an age-gap story as well as a daddy kink one. I thought the writing was excellent and I loved that the author didn't keep harping on the age difference between the two MCs.

There is so much humor and cuteness in this book that it kept me smiling the whole time I read it. Among the lightness there are a few pretty heavy spanking scenes. There's no issue with consent, it's given freely, but the spankings got just a bit intense for me in a couple of places. It wasn't enough to make me want to stop reading, but it's something to be aware of if this is a trigger for you.

I loved the way that Felix kept goading Liam, know full well that his behavior was bratty and would likely end up with him being punished – but that was usually what he was after. Liam is determined to teach Felix patience but it ends up becoming an exercise in patience for him as well because he wants Felix so much and the waiting is killing him.

I can't forget to mention the cute Dalmatian puppy that Felix has. Liam acts like he doesn't like the puppy but we soon learn that just the opposite is true; he falls for the dog just as much as he falls for Felix.

A copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the narrator.
