4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 44 ratings

What happens when your darkest nightmares become reality?

Maya Murphy is a normal 16 year old girl with an average, boring life. Or so she thinks. When Maya’s mom suddenly ships her off to a mysterious boarding school, she quickly realizes that Deep Cove Academy is not what it seems...

After learning that she is part of a secret underwater world, Maya’s existence is turned upside down as she struggles to find her true destiny. When Maya’s night terrors reveal evil lurking beneath the surface at Deep Cove, she teams up with the only other student who can help her: the devastatingly gorgeous but infuriating Reef Fenner.

A boy she is magnetically drawn to. A boy she would follow anywhere.

A boy whose green eyes are straight out of the depths of her nightmares.

The Destiny is the first book in the Deep Cove Academy series, a YA fantasy world full of fast-paced adventure, mythological mysteries and heart-wrenching first love.

The heroine is different than many other types of heriones. She's rather reluctant to speak what she's thinking. At first I wasn't so sure about this. Just ask questions out loud already! But it occurred to me a shy sixteen year old girl would act quietly and with some trepidation. She's not a weak, just quiet. I also love that the romance is clean and sweet and the story is compelling original. The ending was solid and satisfying yet left plenty of room for a sequel. Diffently recommend.

Though this is a YA book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were likeable, and the whole mystery surrounding Maya & Reef was a slow intrigue yet immensely satisfying. I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next. I hope there will be more books in this storyline, because I feel that the main character Maya has more to her than meets the eye, besides the whole merfolk deal.

*Spoilers*
This story is about a young woman who is sent away from the only family she has ever known into a boarding school far away because of what was agreed upon in court on a piece of paper signed years ago. It is about a woman who has spent her life wondering why she is different and why she suffers from terrible nightmares finding her true self and purpose in life. Her life is changed completely by this piece of paper decided by a man she’s never met. It is about finding where you belong, the true meaning of friendship, and what love really is through the eyes of a lost young woman. This book is hard to put down and will keep you wanting to know what will happen next! Madison Becker has done a great job of keeping her readers in suspense and I look forward to reading more of her work!!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I liked the premise of the story and chose to read this book based on it. The characters were interesting and the storyline was intriguing. As the story progressed, I was quickly captured by the drama of her life and the choices that were made for her. It was a well written story that was entertaining to read.

I requested a copy of this book so I could provide an honest review.

Madison Becker did a good job on this book, the story was written well. Reef and Maya were good characters, their journey had a few bumps along the way but they were made for each other, the connection and chemistry between them was strong. They were good together.
I enjoyed this story. Thanks, Madison Becker. Good work :)

This book was sort of a mix between The Mortal Instruments series and Harry Potter but if it was set underwater in a world of sirens and Greek mythology and with romance.

Definitely not what I expected when I came across it in a tiktok promotion and got it on a whim. I ended up loving the book for a multitude of reasons:
-The writing style is very engaging and the book is actually thought out and doesn't end in a cliffhanger.
-The book itself is longer and fleshed out - not like some others that split what could be 1 book into 3 story novels with part 1, part 2, part 3, etc.
-The teens depicted in the story actually thought and acted like teens.
-Though it contained a school/magic/mermaid theme it was a bit darker and edgier... so it felt more YA than a teen book.
-The couples were adorable and the relationships realistic.

10/10!! Can't wait for the next book
