4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 316 ratings

An orphaned mail order bride determined to keep a promise to a dying friend, an unwilling groom with a prickly disposition, and a secret baby that complicates the already precarious situation.

Madeline Platt grew up in an orphanage, so when she becomes an adult, she’s forced to find a way to provide for herself. She answers a mail order bride advert, hoping she can start a new life out West. Days before she is set to leave, her best friend from the orphanage becomes sick. On her deathbed, she requests that Madeline take care of her one-year-old daughter.
Madeline has no choice but to honor the wish, knowing what awful fate would await the child if she’s given over to the orphanage.

Brian Thornhill doesn’t want a wife, but his father decided it was high time he settle down if he wants to take over the family farm. When his father reveals he placed a mail order advert for him,
Brian is dismayed to find out a bride is on the way to marry him. He’s completely dumbfounded when she steps off the train with a small child by her side.

Can Madeline find a way to love the thorny Brian? Can Brian open his heart to his new wife and stepdaughter? And will they be able to find a way to make their instant family work?

Life can change in an instant as Madeline was soon to find out. Being orphaned she knew there were few opportunities for her to find a good husband and it seemed becoming a mail order bride was her only option. Unfortunately, her best friend fell ill and she agreed to take her little girl Grace with her.

What she found though was he "husband" Brian had not placed the ad at all, but it was his father who was determined for him to marry and settle down. To say he was surprised to see Grace was an understatement!

Brian was used to doing what he wanted and resented being tied down. So it was quite a long journey for him to realize what was really important and the ride was a little bumpy to their happy ending.

Jenna is the best at pulling you into the heart of the characters and making you sigh with happiness as she weaves her wonderful stories!

Madeline starts out rejected and with only one real friend when they are released from the orphanage, it was a terrible place where children didn’t get enough to eat. When her dear friend has a baby and is very ill, Madeline promises if she were to die she would take her friends 18 month old daughter away, where the mean father couldn’t get his hands on her. The next day when. Maddie gets on a train to go west and become a mail order bride, her friend has passed ; so she takes the baby and heads to Dakota territory to meet her mail order husband , who doesn’t know she is coming ,and doesn’t want a wife,; let alone a baby that would cramp his style with the saloon women.

This delightful, sweet romance is about woman who was raised in an orphanage, who kept her murdered friend's baby girl and went across the country to become a mail order bride. Madeline and Grace were met with questions when they arrived, but quickly settled into life on the estate of her husband and his family. Read this book to learn about this transition in their lives.

I enjoyed this book and hope you enjoy it also.

This is a good story and the ninth book in the series about a young woman that is a mail order bride finding love and happiness

I wasn’t sure if Madeline and Brian would be able to overcome all of their problems. Brian’s father and Grace sure didn’t help them much. I love that the end and the beginning were tied together. I recommend it to readers who like interesting and exciting stories.

The writing was good. The book flowed well. But I have serious issues with the “man”. What kind of a man continues to visit his woman on the side while knowingly breaking his wife’s heart?!? And then complains about how he feels guilty and doesn’t enjoy his wild ways anymore. Umm not a man I want to read about. I wanted him to own up to his mistake. An acknowledgement that he’d done wrong and was a changed man. An apology to his wife at the very least. Maybe some groveling. Nope. He just got her some flowers. Have a backbone woman and some self respect. Too much of the book he was terrible and then suddenly he’s different without any real restitution made. Could have been so much better if he’d changed his ways earlier and been made to work more for his wife’s affection and trust. Brian needed more honor and integrity. And Madeline needed more self respect.

4.0 out of 5 stars Second chance?

But is this a second chance for Madeline or Brian?
It is a very rocky and bumpy road to a HEA for both Madeline and Brian, she feels rejected and abandoned, he feels cheated and blackmailed. They will need to get over the hurdles of expectation and guilt before they can begin to build trust...but eventually find working together provides a smoother more fulfilling path.
