A Flood of Bones (Alicia Friend Book 6) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 109 ratings

A 50-year-old murder spree. A present-day victim. A town rife with secrets.

As the floodwaters around a rural West Yorkshire town recede, several bodies are left behind. At first, it is thought to be a disturbed graveyard, but the gruesome discovery is quickly established as multiple homicides.

From 50 years ago.

And when a young local woman is murdered, tension in the community threatens to boil over.

As the case expands quickly, Detective Inspector Alicia Friend uncovers even older secrets – secrets linked to a psychotic priest from the 19th century, to a white supremacist group, and an amateur sleuth who poses the theory of a cult spanning generations.

With too many suspects and too many bodies, A Flood of Bones is a serial killer novel where anyone could be a killer, and anyone could be the next victim.

A. D. Davies grew up in Leeds, West Yorkshire. In high school his ambition was to be a writer of horror novels, although in adult life he became an avid fan of crime fiction. After a long stint in an unsatisfying job, he attended the University of Leeds where he attained a degree in creative writing. Shortly after graduation, he moved to the Midlands to marry the love of his life.

He is well-travelled, his favourite destinations being New Zealand and Vietnam, which has influenced his writing immensely (as seen in his novel The Dead and the Missing). For now, however, globe-trotting is taking a back-seat to raising his two children and writing, although he hopes to one day combine all three.

He now resides in Staffordshire, UK, with his wife and two children.

Alicia jhs earned her reputation and is now a lead detective. She is loaned to help out another local area to solve a very old mystery. When a terrible rain storm floods a very large area of Molesford Bridge, bones wash down the mountainside. Lots of bones and some have been cut into parts not connected. Who do these bones belong to? It looks like murder and there are two very old cold cases never solved. Then there are two new murders committed in the same way Did the same killer return after almost 50 years? There are many possible killers from the past but they are now too old to be wandering the hills. So, who done it? Of course, given the current hate crimes we now contend with in 2018, it involved the killing of minorities so that points to a very old club but the members deny all involvement. Hmmm. So, Alicia does what she does best, she thinks and uses her mind. It is a fascinating story line. It involved Richard Hague, her baby's father and his first daughter. There are many strings along the way. The ending is diabolical and makes me hope the next book is published sooner than later. Mr. Davies is a talented author and paints a picture of the area around Leeds and these rural villages. Start with Book 1 and catch up. Alicia Friend is awesome.

Enjoyable read with many surprises but comes together at the end with a final reveal. Would recommend to mystery lover

The weaving of the attributes of each character from the past with the revealing of new facets keeps the stories fresh. How Alicia has evolved from the first book holds my interest. Each book has such a different story line. Hard to wait for the next to come out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply..WOW!

My first ever written review...it's a little daunting! 😱 I've read the whole series having downloaded book 1 FOC from book hub...I may be a tad swayed by the location settings...born in Huddersfield to a family residing in Elland...bang in the middle of Kirklees & Calderdale..and currently settled in Leeds...there was an instant connection! Not only a great stand alone story line in each of them but an amazingly intricate thread of character development throughout. Most impressive for me is the touching upon of so many 'hot potato' topics of the day in such a common sense, down to earth way with respect and empathy for every perspective. If you enjoy a great little detective thriller then you'll really enjoy these...if you enjoy a great little detective story and are a thinking/seeking kind of soul who loves to be provoked into thought and have your boundaries stretched the you'll absolutely love 'em. Hats off to you Mr Davies
