Publisher's summary

Two single dads. Two headstrong teenagers. One dead body.

A cabin in the middle of nowhere, nature all around, peace and serenity. It was supposed to be a vacation to help Nova reconnect with his son.

But he didn’t expect to fall for his neighbor in the cabin across the lake.

He didn’t expect an erratic and unusual broadcast on a radio station no longer in existence.

And he definitely didn’t expect a dead body in the water.

Mercy likes his mysteries to stay within the pages of his novels. When strange things start to happen at his summer cabin, he and his daughter team up with the man and his son on the other side of the lake to get to the bottom of it. A little amateur sleuthing won’t hurt anyone, right?

Someone out there knows the truth.
Who is the man on the radio?
What does he know?
Mercy and Nova are determined to solve the mystery, but are they willing to risk life and limb for answers? Because someone doesn’t want their secrets revealed.

**Radio Static is an MM romantic mystery involving two single dads in their midforties.**

another stella performance

THE STORY:

Nicky James dipping her quill into romantic mystery genre.. yes please.

Loved reading about 2 mature single dads playing detectives!!

As a parent myself, it was easy to get into both Nova and Mercy's head.

Nicky is great at making the reader feel all the emotions while reading.

Again, Nicky does not disappoint!!

Highly recommended.

THE NARRATION:

Nick J. Russo did a wonderful job (as usual) with the narration.

He always make me FEEL the characters. The emotion that he puts into his narration brings the characters to life for me.

Another stella performance.

Mercy is obnoxious

Let’s maybe not treat every teen male as a rapist and every teenage girl as a some wired paragon of virtue unable of making any choices for herself? Mercy is obnoxious. Story is interesting though.

Hell of a ride

I love Nicky James and will listen to anything she writes. I snapped this one up and started with it right away. I wasn’t disappointed.

Nick J. Russo did a great job narrating the story. He’s a good fit for Nicky’s mystery romances – just like they were made to go together.

Now, I very much know the area Nicky was writing about. My cousins have a cabin on a lake not far from where the book’s set, so I didn’t find it hard to sink into the story. I remembered my summer visits to the cabin and how wonderful the world was.

I loved Mercy and Nova in this book – two single fathers struggling. Teenagers are tough at the best of times, but taking them on without the backup of a spouse is rough. Now, Mercy chose this route while Nova has the dissolved marriage to contend with.

Anyway, this book had it all – romance, a decades-old mystery, a bit of reminiscing about the late twentieth century (God, I’m older than the guys by a bit…that said, I like older heroes – more, please.)

I had a couple of minutes where I wanted to shake the guys and go yeah, now would be a good time to leave – but the story wouldn’t have been compelling without the full resolution.

Loved it and can’t wait for more.

Mystery and romance, another winner!

I honestly believe Nicky James and Nick J. Russo are the perfect match. Her words are magical and his narration is phenomenal. The distinctive voices he uses for quite a lot of characters, the emotions he puts in his performance makes him such a pleasant narrator to listen to.

This book is a wonderful mix of romance and mystery. The romance is well paced, and even though it might seem like they fall for each other pretty fast, Nova and Mercy have such an intense couple of weeks, or days even, it’s something that creates a bond fast. The horror of discovering a body at the lake where both men are vacationing with their teenage kids is quite disruptive of their leisure time. And when one turns into more, and rumours about a mysterious disappearance from years ago surface through messages that are broadcasted over an old radiostation, they all have a gut feeling there are troubling things going on in the small town they are visiting.

I loved how both Rae and Cooper, the teenagers, act like their age. Stubborn, thinking they can handle all the world’s problems and know all the answers like many teenagers do, it was refreshing. I also loved the connection there was between Mercy and Nova, though there were moments I was ready to slap some sense into Mercy! But the romantic part of the story is well done. There’s not a lot of heat, but the tenderness and the falling in love was palpable.

The mystery itself kept me on edge, and just when I thought I solved it, the story took yet another turn and proved me wrong. I love it when there are multiple suspects and anyone has their own reasons. Nick Russo did such a perfect job narrating all these characters, and when emotions get high, he manages to pass those feelings on to me as a listener. Such a great performance, he pulled me right into the story and I couldn’t let go until everything was neatly wrapped up.

Highly recommend!

Mystery and Romance tied together with kids.

Nicky has done it again. She has written a powerful suspense story that had me guessing to the very end. Both Cyrus and River were at times irritating and endearing. I really don’t want to say in more than what’s already been said. The reader needs to experience it for themselves. I don’t think they will be disappointed. When I say the reader you know what I mean. This is a compelling story that has you riveted to your seat. The narrator does an amazing job of telling me this story. I absolutely adored it. ❤️❤️

Great Listen

I loved it. This story has a mystery with romance and some parenting challenges on the side. I was captivated from the start, following two dads who brought their teenage children to this beautifully serene cabin on the lake, just to unravel the ugly secrets hiding beneath the surface. Narrator did an amazing job telling this story and giving voices to all characters. This was a great listening experience.

enjoyed

The story is kind of a cozy mystery but definitely spicy. The sexual tension is A+ and so is the narration. Worth a credit. I will relisten for sure.

Fantastic!!!

Nick J. Russo just slayed this narration! i adored his voices for all the characters, especially Nova's drawl, and he had me riveted at the end when everything was unraveling. Just Riveted!
WOW, just Wow! I need to find new ways to say what an amazing author Nicky James is, she continuously blows me away with every book. I loved everything about Radio Static. It was a perfect combination of romance, family, mystery and suspense--all woven together brilliantly!
Nova and Mercy, with their teenagers Rae and Cooper, were just fabulous. Two men in their forties, both with their teenager in tow, spending a month at a cabin on the lake in a very small town...finding friendship, love, and dead bodies! The dynamic between the dads and their kids was spot on and such a joy to read. The relationship between Rae and Cooper was great! Nova and Mercy were just so swoony and had such a tender and touching relationship. It was so realistic and well balanced between their desire to find love and their responsibilities as a parent. The underlying mystery evolved throughout as the families vacationed together and I was guessing how it all would unfold until the very end!
Oh this book! I laughed, I swooned, I held my breath, I had tears rolling down my face as tension built and everything unfolded. It was just brilliant from start to finish!
