Solstice: A God Jars Novella (The God Jars Saga) Kindle Edition
Tavros, battling nightmares and anxiety, discovers his husband has never celebrated Solstice. Can he make it special or will it cause more suffering?
Tavros is on the brink of a breakdown, juggling nightmares from a brutal battle and the pressure of the upcoming winter solstice. But when he discovers his husband has never celebrated Solstice before, he sees an opportunity to distract himself from his worries.
As Tavros plans a surprise for Valis, a sudden twist of events sends Valis away with their young friend, Aenali. Left alone to make preparations for his friends’ wedding, Tavros battles his inner demons and fears that something might happen to his beloved husband.
But despite the mounting anxiety, Tavros is determined to make Valis's first Solstice a special one. Can Tavros get his surprise finished in time for Valis’s return? Will it backfire and cause them both more trauma?
Join Tavros as he navigates his war trauma and strives to create a joyous Solstice celebration for his husband—and the entire monastery. Will he succeed in brightening Valis’s Winter Solstice, or will his plans fail? Find out in this heartwarming tale of love and family.
Solstice is mostly a fluffy, Christmassy read while also dealing with what these characters call War Trauma. PTSD is serious and debilitating, and Devon did their best to treat it respectfully.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2024A gentle surprise whilst a husband is also suffering from trauma and anxiety. I really liked the the way everyone described the need for therapy. And that there's no shame in it at all. I appreciated all the decorating for the Solstice as it felt a little bit like Christmas spirit. I enjoyed this addition but I only wish for that spiced milk recipe because it sounds delicious!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2020I absolutely loved this return visit to the God Jars world and I really enjoyed getting the story from Tavros' POV. He just loves Valis so much and really wanted him to have a Solstice to make up for all the ones he didn't have. This was a perfect holiday addition to this amazing series and I highly recommend reading the previous books first because this really isn't a standalone.
*I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book*
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2020This holiday novella is everything and more!!
Tavros has always been amazing {when his head isn’t stuck up his @$$ that is}. I love this extra special glimpse of him in ‘Solstice’. His love & fierce dedication to Valis and his entire community is so admirable.
Also ... most definitely helped put me into the holiday spirit!!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2020I loved reading Solstice and it is a great addition to the series and shows what happens when everyone is home. You will need to have read the series before this book is read! I loved getting to see how they are doing now.
