A fairly fast-paced mystery that starts out with a large cast. In Chapter 1 we meet Grace Keslar, a senior venturing into something new. A main character I can sympathize with. In mixed order we then meet her six servants -- each with their real name and a nickname she's given them, the six ladies of the knitting circle, and the six bed & breakfast guests. I wrote their names down as they came along so I could keep track of who's who.

I'm giving the book four stars because I liked the basic setting and story, plus it connects with the Spicetown mystery series I've enjoyed. However, a pro edit could have helped. Facts are sometimes repeated or restated; people often dramatically throw limbs around. "Miriam threw her hands in the air along with her nose and opened the front door..." Perhaps done for humor? "She raised her hand and waved at him" could be simply "She waved at him." Etc.

For all that, I plan to read the second book in the series to see how Grace and her cat Chauncey get on in this new venture. With bed & breakfast guests there's lots of room for quirky characters.

Cat in Cahoots

This was a different Cosy mystery. I liked the characters and the story. It had humor and mystery. I would read the next book in the series.

cute story

I enjoyed how it incorporates itself into Spicetown. The same characters are there as well as a new venue and new people. I can this this expanding into a wedding mystery. Chauncey and Briscoe are going to make a fine crime fighting set of animals!

One of the first things you will discover is that Grace Keslar never calls anyone by their own name. She gives them one she thinks fits them better in her eyes.

As this book opens Alice/Kassie Jackson, informs Grace that the Harper's, Debbie and Mike, have arrived and have been taken to the Santorini room. Grace recently opened her 26-room mansion as a bed and breakfast option with her restorative Spa.

This particular day she is also hosting her knitting group in the afternoon. The group originated at the Caram Seed Craft Corner, but Grace, not liking to travel in the cold, opened her home to the group for tea, knitting and of course, gossip.

Her cat Mr. Chauncey is a fixture in the home, and he roams at will. Grace just hopes to keep him out of the guest rooms. She wouldn't want him to get locked in one and then have him scare a guest as he escapes again.

We meet the ladies of the knitting group and learn about the disgraced Sheriff as the wonder who his replacement will be.

We meet the Mayor, Cora Mae Bingham and her assistant Amanda Morgan as they discuss the new zoning for Spicetown which would include Grace's property. However, Miriam Landry who has adjoining property wants to speak about it, most likely to delay the ruling.

The next guest we see is Greg Sanders, he doesn't appear to be a happy sort. We meet Luanne Engles, at breakfast the next day.

More staff is introduced as we move along into the story. It's Mr. Chauncey who sort of takes the stage there, as he's caught playing with an earring that no one has seen before, that's just one of several things to perk our curiosity.

A surprise visit from the fire inspector, has Grace wondering if she needs to shut down for some renovations for a second exit.

Mr. Chauncey plants more sparkly things around for the maids to find.

I love the way several different cases intertwine in this book, I also discovered there's a whole series about Spicetown that I think I have to read as soon as I finish this trilogy.

I like short and this was short. BUT it had WAAAAAYYYYYY too many characters none of which had any discriptive personality they all talked the same and acted the same.

And just so you know this is NOT a cat cozy. The cat on the cover being so prominent is a deceptive tactic. The cat plays with a few pieces of jewelry and is talked about fondly but is not really a character of note enough to make this a cat cozy.

I am really annoyed that I was lied to about that by the use of the cat on the cover. If I see a cover like this then I think it is a cat cozy NOT some jerk just to sell a book. It makes me think badly of the publishers and the author.

The cover is pretty but none of the characters were interesting enough that I want to know more and so I won't be reading the series.

And also, don't be fooled by the 'the cat might be the spirit of her husband' in the blurb. Nothing at all hints at that in the story. The story was so cluttered and crowded with people who all basically looked and sounded the same that the cat too and the police dog were not interesting.

Lots if character names

The author introduced various staff member characters whose names had been changed by the owner if the house. I found it hard to keep up with who was whom. There were quite a few mistakes in editing, but they could be easily overlooked. I did find myself looking back at what I just read to clarify things which were confusing. Wish there had been more interaction with Chauncey the cat. Pretty much easy to read.

Engaging and engrossing

I didn't expect this new series with the hint of the older characters from the Spice town series to be so engrossing and hard to put down. Thus, it absorbed all my attention for at least three sittings. I'd recommend this to all mystery buffs who love to outshine and out guess the writer. What a fun read!

A really wonderful cozy mystery

Grace Keslar has opened up her mansion to paying guests. Her cat Chauncey keeps finding pieces of Jewellery. A couple of guests have a secret and Chauncey is uncovering it. He is a proper snoopy cat just the thing when solving a mystery. This book got an easy five stars as it was really good.
