Dying to Meet You: Conjuring a Coroner, Book 1
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
Death comes for us all, and he’s dying to meet you. It’s the one rendezvous you’d rather be late for. Fortunately, Kasey is rarely on time.
A medical examiner for the city of New York, Kasey has a rare gift: prescience. Born a witch, she considered her gift nothing more than affliction that forced her to see visions of those she touched. But her new job changed all that.
Embracing her curse, Kasey uses her visions to solve murders in the city that never sleeps. But when the bodies on the slab start to look disturbingly more and more like Kasey, she’s left in a precarious situation: find out what these people have in common...or be the next to turn up dead.
Dying to Meet You is a gripping murder mystery wrapped in an urban fantasy adventure. If you love kickass heroines, powerful magic, and menacing mystery, you don’t want to miss this killer read.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2023I am not sure what it was about this book that left me underwhelmed, but something was just off. It had issues with character development; aside from the main character, probably the richest character was Vida, a tertiary character at best. Bishop was lacking and there seemed to be a lack of other secondary characters that should make up a person's life. The settings are also a little bland in their descriptions, giving very little detail to places like the morgue, the bullpen, and her apartment. The only reason this is getting 4 out of 5 stars from me is because it probably deserves 3.5 out of 5 and the story was interesting enough to keep me reading to the end, so I rounded up. I think it might be good enough to interest me in the next book, but not so much that I immediately got on Amazon and bought it. If you like urban fantasy with a mystery twist, this might give you your fix but there are better books of that flavor out there.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2019I really enjoyed this book. The dialog and the way the author has his character enneract is funny, entertaining, informative and very snarky. Like watching an old Drag Net episode from the 50's this has book has a gumshoe novel quality to it which makes it such a fun read. The main character Kasey, a forensic pathologist, has a snarky attitude, a tough girl personality which works well with her boss, detective Bishop. She and her boss are out to catch a serial killer and stop him before he kills again. Only problem is she cant use magic and her boss and other co-workers don't know she has magical abilities. She has been warned by ADI, the council that oversees and monitors the use of magic around normal people, that they would take drastic measures against her and possible lock her away if she used it again. But they also hired her to find and terminate, if need be, the serial killer. What a bind!!! The concept is great and I love solving mysteries. It's a fast pace book and I was able to read it in a day. If you enjoy old style detective books, snarky women, a funny coroner and a straight laced Chief of Police, you'll love this urban mystery novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2022Made it through to the first part of Volume 3 and finally gave up. It was just too much like work to continue reading these. The original premise held promise, but thing quickly devolved into a sad version of a 1940's B-movie cop story, complete with not-so-witty repartee. Desperately in need of a proof reader/editor. Lots and lots of holes, plot errors, continuity issues, etc., right down to poor punctuation and spelling.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2024This is an awesome beginning to a series! The characters are believable as people with the emotions and problems that we all have. Throw in magic and really incredible villains planning to destroy New York City to make this an amazing series opener!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2024Interesting book but even though it was a short read I just couldn't get into it. I wasn't a fan of the writing style however I plan to continue to the next book. No Cliff hanger or love interest in this book.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2020Good read.
Writing and copy editing are good.
I'm now interested in reading more in this series.
There are some faults.
The ease at which people can 'change identities' simply doesn't work in today's computerized society.
A brief in and out with fake IDs? Sure. But the protagonist has changed identity and so has the villain, whom I won't name, spoilers, after all.
The boss battle at the end was disappointing. It's almost like she forgot she had the 'ultimate weapon' until it was too late.
The interrogation of the Big Baddie was also ... unsatisfying, shall we say, especially since the information gained was about what you'd expect.
The whole 'Ainslie' feud/not feud also wanted more work.
---
Flawed? Sure. But it's a pretty good read, and better than a lot of indie stuff I've seen lately.
A good solid 4*, but nothing more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!
I love the take on magical society! The ins and outs of this beautifully woven story can not be done justice in a review! You MUST read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars unexpected outcome!
A refreshing change from the books I normally read about magic and witches, this story follows the career of a young woman dealing with aspects of her life she wasn’t sure she wanted. I don’t want to give the story away as it will be best to see how it unfolds over the chapters. The ending surprised me but concluded the story perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dying to read more!
An AWESOME new to me magical series that I'm eager to read more of. It's quite a novelty to read a kick butt heroine who does it all on her own merits without needing to be rescued by the overpowered alpha hero - who in this instance wasn't nearly as charming as he thought himself!
On to book 2 for me!

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite enjoyable!
I downloaded this because of an ad on facebook. The cover looks like all the books that I currently read, and I didn't even look at the name of the author. Imagine my surprise when I got to the end, and realized the author is a man (no offense intended, I'm simply talking about the tone it's written in... the male voice is usually distinctly different from the female voice). It's delightful how he's written this book and this female character. And the story is very good. I recommend this to anyone who likes police procedurals mixed with a supernatural element.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hounded By A Serial Killer
I’d probably give this book 4.5 ⭐️ if I could.
This is the first book of a series, though there is a prequel, but as it was written after the rest of the series, it’s not necessary to read in order to understand this book. There is a continuing story arc after the end of this book but the cliffhanger is minimal and not at all frustrating.
Kasey Chase is a coroner on secondment to NYPD after a run in with the son of an important man, who is also a coroner. Partnered up with Detective Bishop she is called out to a murder of a young woman who bears an uncanny resemblance to Kasey.
Kasey is not only a coroner but she is a prescient or psychic and she can sometimes see important information regarding the events of her victims deaths, which helps her be so good at her job. Quite quickly it appears that the world of magic has followed her into the world of the mundane and she is facing not a human serial killer, but a magic one. This draws the attention of the Magic Council, and the world that she avoided for so long by changing her name, knows who and where she is.
This book is really engaging. The plot is face moving, the world building is solid and the characters are interesting. When I read the prequel I wanted more world building and this book delivers that desire. Though there is little about the magical system, there is more about magical society. We learn about it as Kasey does because she’s been estranged from it since she was a teenager and she wilfully ignored it’s existence, despite still seeing her family regularly.
I like the format of this book, making the individual mystery Kasey has to solve actually being the start of the larger story arc over the series. It was an engaging mystery and told us a lot about Kasey and her place in the world. I could stand to learn more about Kasey and her personality rather than just being a vehicle for the story, but this is urban fantasy and it’s a common issue in the genre. I’m hoping as the series develops we’ll see more about who Kasey is.
This is a really great start to a series and I can’t wait to read the next book.
