In Axminster Workhouse: A Gay M/M Historical Romance (Oliver & Jack Book 3) Kindle Edition
An orphan and his street thief companion are confined inside a workhouse to await judgment for a crime they did not commit. This is the love story of Oliver Twist and The Artful Dodger.
After a blissful seaside interlude, Oliver and Jack are arrested for theft and sent to Axminster Workhouse. They are put in the less-than-tender care of Workmaster Chalenheim, who controls the work they do, the food they eat, and the punishments they must endure.
Oliver struggles with the shame of being in a place he thought he’d left behind long ago. Meanwhile, Jack is confronted by a predator who tests the limits of Jack’s love for Oliver.
They must escape the workhouse before they succumb to the harsh conditions or are separated by the hangman’s noose, whichever comes first.
A gay, m/m Victorian-era romance with grumpy/sunshine, hurt/comfort, opposites attract, emotional scars, and pure, sweet love. A little sweet, a little steamy, with a guaranteed HEA.

About the author

Jackie North has been writing stories since grade school and her dream was to someday leave her corporate day job behind and travel the world. She also wanted to put her English degree to good use and write romance novels, because for years she’s had a never-ending movie of made-up love stories in her head that simply wouldn’t leave her alone.
Luckily, she discovered m/m romance and decided that men falling in love with other men was exactly what she wanted to write about. In this dazzling new world, she turned her grocery-store romance ideas around and is now putting them to paper as fast as her fingers can type. She creates characters who are a bit flawed and broken, who find themselves on the edge of society, and maybe a few who are a little bit lost, but who all deserve a happily ever after. (And she makes sure they get it!)
She likes long walks on the beach, the smell of lavender and rainstorms, and enjoys sleeping in on snowy mornings. She is especially fond of pizza and beer and, when time allows, long road trips with soda fountain drinks and rock and roll music. In her heart, there is peace to be found everywhere, but since in the real world this isn’t always true, Jackie writes for love.

Nicked and stored at a workhouse, after come so far! Over a derful book, now waiting for the return of the magistrate. Jack had never really asked Oliver of his time before, was this dreadful place the reasoning behind the blind looks that had past over Oliver's face from before? Fear has a grip on Oliver, he knows this life. Where as Jack may know how to survive jail time this, can they last the two months? Watching the life bleed out of Nolly's eyes was the most painful thing to Jack, Surely he can come to a plan to help lighten Nolly up. Oh my heart broke when Olive walks in to the scene of Chalenheim with Jack, it not like Oliver was blinded to ways he had lived but that wasn't the one Jack wanted he Nolly learn of his past. Oliver comes up with the brilliant plan of escape..gross but brilliant! Poor Jack is about to hurl. Was this a new beginning or would they be done for sure?
Feels: I despaired for them for most of the book - As Oliver thinks at one point, “There was only darkness that swallowed everything.” - but there is light at the end of the road
Drama: Chalenheim and the workhouse
Heat: 1/5
Characters: There’s more focus on Jack as we learn about his traumatic childhood and how it shaped his irreverent positivity
Pacing: Smooth flow, much descriptive prose
Length: Longer, took a few days to finish
Ending: You get a true HFN here! Almost don’t want to know what happens next eep
Spoiler/trigger warning for inferences to past and current sexual abuse.
