A confirmed flirt in need of reform meets a preacher in need of laughter. These opposites are on a collision course with love.
Elizabeth Garrett’s latest flirtation embarrassed her father, a Massachusetts judge. Now he is determined to see her reformed or sent away. Who better than his Aunt Mindwell to oversee Elizabeth’s reformation? With a name like that, Elizabeth is sure her freedom is gone. After his wife’s death, Reverend Gideon Frost loses everything: his faith, his congregation and, most especially, his way. Transferred to the tiny community of East Stoughton, he must take a second job to supplement his lay clergy position. His feisty employer, Mindwell Roberts, doesn’t have time to coddle him. She has problems of her own, a nineteen-year-old niece whose only life skill is flirting. Elizabeth knows how to play all the games and can wait her father out. Until her flirtations land her in the worst trouble of her life. The last thing she expects to find is joy and love in her great-aunt’s home and with a stuffy preacher.

I found myself liking this story. It was not the best written and the ending was a bit of a mess but overall I enjoyed it. Maybe it was the place and time period, I really liked reading about America about 30 years after the war with Britain just outside of Boston. I liked reading about such a flawed character, it is an unusual thing for me to enjoy a book like that. Elizabeth was such a mess when this book started and at the end a completely different person but you can see that threw love and a bit of trauma and falling in love with a good man change is a very real possibility. I also liked how they showed that this was how this woman was raised and as soon as she was given a different way and taught and felt the value of good hard work she was changed. I wouldn't call this much of a romance, it was a side story to her change, and growing up. I didn't like how it all wrapped up because it was all too prefect. This story contains an almost rape scene and a pretty good beating of a woman. The rest of the story was clean. Some kisses after marriage and talk of sex after marriage.
I really enjoyed this one. Elizabeth is a horrible flirt and has embarrassed her family so she's sent off to live with her great-aunt Mindwell (aka Aunt Mina). Elizabeth thinks that's the worst punishment possible, but she discovers that she may have a lot more in common with Aunt Mina than she could ever imagine. As she begins to see herself the way Aunt Mina sees her rather than the way her parents see her, she realizes that she is so much more than a thoughtless flirt (that doesn't mean she doesn't still slip into her old ways and cause trouble for herself).
Gideon is not looking for a wife or a flirtation. And there is nothing about the spoiled Elizabeth that impresses him. He works part-time for Aunt Mina while he figures out if he's going to continue in the ministry or not. Even though he's still mourning the loss of his wife, and is pretty determined that he isn't looking for a wife, he can't help noticing the positive changes in Elizabeth.

I LOVE the American Homespun series and Reforming Elizabeth did not disappoint. It is my favorite of the series. I had a few giggles with Elizabeth at some of the events that happened to her while she was trying to be "reformed". She is not a likeable character at first but she grew on me. I highly highly recommend this book and series. I cannot wait to read the next book when it releases. 5 plus stars.
I have enjoyed this Homespun series. The last book was actually the first one I read and then I had to start at the beginning. This book is a standalone, but I think you'd appreciate Elizabeth's character more if you read Awakening Lucy first. Elizabeth is really unlikable in the beginning, but stick with her. Her transformation is hard, but beautiful. I had a hard time putting it down. Gideon also has to go through his own transformation. I agree with another reviewer, this is more a story about Elizabeth's transformation than it is about the romance, but the romance is sweet. I also enjoy all the history in this series. Some of the things are hard to relate to and others are still apart of our world today.
Another wonderful story by lorin grace. Elizabeth a spoiled young woman is sent to a aunt she never met. Who teaches her the basics of every day living.
Elizabeth "Lizzy" and Gideon have a happy ending, but getting there is quite the unusual story. You will not want to put it down, so read and enjoy as I did.
clean romance. An exciting read about the change of heart two different people have. Elizabeth Garett has been a bully to her peers and a flirt since the age of 10. egged on by her mother, she thought that this is the best way to catch any man she wanted… until she tried for a married man and her father caught her flirting shamelessly and not dressing as she should. Gideon Frost is a recent widower. his wife died during childbirth. he lost his confidence with his calling as a preacher and is eventually sent to be another preachers assistant in a different settlement. Elizabeth is sent to live with an aunt, just happens to be in the same settlement as Gideon is at.
This is a beautiful and heartfelt story of a young woman who had much to learn about herself and others. It is a story of judgement and a self-centered attitude that leads to repentance, forgiveness and love. The character development for all of the characters in the story including Elizabeth, her parents and her aunt were excellent. I highly recommend this story and I know you will enjoy it as much as I did. It is certainly a page turner.
Reforming Elizabeth is book two in the American Homespun series. Another great book in this series! Elizabeth is the villain in book one, so it was wonderful to watch her progress in book two. The hero was a bit too legalistic for me at first, but I enjoyed his transformation as well. This is a sweet romance with only a few kisses. Can’t wait to read the rest of this series.
Reforming Elizabeth is a beautiful story of the Mean Girl who finds repentance, forgiveness, and love. I loved the historic details, fabulous characters, and thoroughly entertaining storyline.
I am impressed by this beautiful story. I did not like her father, but he was right in one respect. Every young lady needs an aunt like Elizabeth's. And only God could work out such bad events. Ii recommend this book to all!
This book about a spoiled rich girl whose aunt teaches her to cook, clean, spin and weave, was very well written and had good moral values. I really liked it.
I am completely biased, I know this, you know this. However, I do feel this is my best work so far. I have learned so much on my journey with Elizabeth from idea to completion. I can't wait to start a new book.
