The God Of Nightmares Is Weaving Dreams. My Team Is Reliving Their Personal Hells. I'm Ready To Rip Out Throats.
When Perses brings on Epiales to start twisting the minds of my team, I end up having to face the tortures of REM. Not the band. I'm talking about sleep.
I wasn't built for sleep.
Worse, the God of Nightmares is systematically twisting my abilities in his dreamworld, forcing me to fight in different ways so he can feed the information back to Perses.
I still don't know why, exactly.
But I'm getting something out of this experience I'd never expected. I'm learning about the pasts of each team member. That's good and bad. It's good because it's helping me understand how they tick and why they are who they've become. It's bad because I'm discovering just how screwed up each of them truly is!
At this point I'm not sure if I despise Epiales or if I owe him my thanks.
Probably both.
Regardless, I must take him down and free my team from their dreams before he strips away every last remnant of who they are.

Grave Dreams: The Grave Digger Mythos Book Three by John P. Logsdon is amazing. Just when you think that this series can’t get any better, it does. The characters have become even more relatable as we learn their backstories. And my favorite character is still Mitzy. She is amazing. This is a very different look at the gods and their shenanigans. This is also a great introduction/reminder of some of the lesser gods in mythology. And you get to be part of the Grave Diggers team’s journey, while watching their personal growth. So a great plot, great characters, humor, etc. This is a must read!
Still trying to reveal the full gamut of Grave's abilities, despite the trials of the last book, the lesser gods finally get creative. Cue the god of nightmares. Running through scenario after forced scenario, each as or more creative than the last, the Digger team is put through ringer, experiencing the worst moments imaginable with macabre twists. Puppeteering for one shadowy goal, a mystery as yet unsolved. But, there is a fine line between breaking the team and defining them. At times hilarious, quirky, sad, action packed, rage-inducing, and surprisingly heartwarming, "Dreams" runs the emotional gauntlet of entertainment.
This was a neat way to get background on all of the characters. Having Grave relive all of the others’ worst days made him understand a bit more where everyone was coming from. My main quibble was Joe and Izzy’s dream. That was too “pat” for me. Also who was Glen in real life? Why did he become a priest? Or was he just someone Epiales created? We know how poor Endro’s story ended. I want to know more about Claire’s aunt. She was a force of nature. Overall I enjoyed the book. Fair warning kleenexes will be needed for the last dream.
The team is loving the Malibu house(duh, who wouldn’t?) and Gene right along with it. This episode has the Epiales, God of Nightmares, dragging Grave into each one of his team members past. Each nightmare has him going back to discover what events made them into the person they were prior to joining his team. Of course, he must fight for their lives in each setting. Grave nor his team can figure out why Perses wants Grave to fight the lesser gods, what Perses hopes to gain. And I am in the dark just as much as they are!
Graves is learning about his team. What he learns provides him insight he needs but the God of Nightmares is systematically twisting his abilities in his dreamworld.
His team continue to surprise him and continues learn about their abilities. The horrors that many of them have lived could they be used against them or so has it made them stronger? And what the hell with Graves abilities and skills during their dreams.
With each new addition the Grave Digger Mythos just gets better and better. Since recruiting his team Grave is really getting to know them, perhaps a little better than he really wants to, but if they are to succeed in their mission past histories need to be revisited. These Grave Digger stories are brilliantly written, full of humour and wit, with some twists that just hit you round the back of the head when you least expect it. A really great read.
This is a strange story in that it uses dreams to tell the backstories for the grave digger team. Not sure how to rate it since it is me of a back story filler instead of magical battles against the old gods and various mythological creatures. There is a fun scene with Athena and a touching ending. It will be interesting to see the direction of the next installment.
A wonderfully crafted history menage of the team with lots of surprises to explore. The character development of each person works so well and how this interacts with the larger series will be great to see. This is my fav of the books so far as even immortals have feelings and strive to bring them to the present.
Just as the team starts to find some cohesion, along comes a dream god to mess with their subconscious minds. Dreams aren’t dangerous, or are the they? Can Grave & Mitzy safe themselves, and if so, can they save their team mates? Can hidden truths stand the light of day or will dreams reveal too much?
There is just so much to this book! I love how we come to understand each character and their back stories through Grave's ordeals. I found some of their stories very moving, and there may even have been a little tear at the end.
Epiales and the dreams he brings to Grave and crew are truly works of genius. Entertaining, requiring problem solving or fighting as appropriate, and each dream is part origin story and part team building exercise. I loved this book and highly recommend it. More than highly actually.
This third book in The Grave Digger Mythos series gives us a better understanding of the characters by showing us a glimpse into each of their pasts. This is a brilliant read, full of excitement, intrigue and fun. Highly recommended.
I had enjoyed the first two books in the series, but was really disappointed with this. There didn't seem to be any real direction of the story and wasted the whole book on character backstory.
I really liked this series but this book pushed it over the top. Loved this and the ending is priceless. Awesome storytelling and I think if you like paranormal you will love this. Great! Happy reading !!!!
This GrVe Digger installment allowed us to see into the back stories of the Grave Digger Army or GDA. It gave me good insights to their strengths and weaknesses. I read this book in Unser 12 hours. Can’t wait to start Book 4!
Great story and a wonderful delivery on character backstory. Definitely different for sure because it was not an info dump. Nope, it was an intriguing set of dreams that let me know more about Digger’s team. Great delivery.
Ok, when I first started reading this series I had serious misgivings. This type of fantasy isn't really my type of thing.BUT I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. They're well written and totally original.
A good instalment of this series, who knew sleeping could cause so much trouble. I loved how each character got a little back story and I loved the overall feel of the book. Cannot wait for the next one.
Wow, I felt a bit spaced out in parts of this book. Great writing that literally takes you into an imaginary world where nightmares rule. Once again, great characters that I really became invested in. Onto the next book I go, wish me luck!
