Sweet to the Core (Lighthouse Bay Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 130 ratings

Dev has pined for his cousin's best friend for years, but no matter how hard he wishes, Clark sees him as nothing but a friend. And it's as a friend that Clark comes to him for help.

Clark’s father is on the brink of losing his house and the fastest way to make a quick buck is to win the $10,000 prize in the inaugural Sweet to the Core apple baking contest. Only problem? He's never baked anything that hasn’t come out of a box.

But Dev has. As a baker, he’s Clark’s best chance.

For the first time, Dev has something Clark wants. Only problem? Dev needs the prize for himself. The only thing he wants—besides Clark—is to buy the local lighthouse where he last spent time with his parents before they died.

Working together means opening a lot more than a barrel of apples, though. They may have found the recipe to love.

But will Dev have to give up the only connection he has left to his parents in order to have it? Or will Clark let his father down? They can't both have everything.

Or can they?

The Clark and Dev subplot was my favorite part of Christmas Lane and I was so disappointed that their story wasn't the second released in the series. It's only been a month since I read the first installment, but I was waiting for this one. It did not disappoint.

The build of Clark and Dev's relationship was so natural. I loved their interaction from the first book and that banter continued here. I loved the hint of paranormal in this along with the realism of the challenges the characters faced. The character growth wasn't desperately needed for either of them, but they each had gradual shifts that made them better individually and as a couple.

As for the series, I'll read book 2 eventually, but Mika just doesn't interest me. Fortunately, this story stands well enough on its own so I wasn't made to feel like I missed anything vital and have to go back and read that installment. I'm not overly enthusiastic about Mal's upcoming installment. His appearance in this story was so contrived that it was the only negative I have for the book. The second Dev randomly thinks of his one true friend from childhood it was blatantly obvious that that friend would be reappearing in Dev's life. I worried Mal would present as a romantic rival for drama, but fortunately he didn't. Mal didn't really do anything to make an impression that merits a book, in my opinion, but the author clearly has a plan for the series. I, personally, wish that she'd continue the Windsor, Wyoming series with a story about Austin but the muses don't seem to be inspiring her that way.

    4.5*

I finished this book with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face! I enjoyed Dev and Clark's story so much. The title is perfectly fitting, for both the book and the baking contest that takes place in the story.

Dev really tugged at my heartstrings. I wanted all the good things to happen for him! I liked the small paranormal aspect of the story, how he was able to see ghosts. It made me a little sad that he wasn't able to see his parents, but I knew they were there with him. And while I may have figured out what was to come, that didn't stop the tears from falling!

The romance between Dev and Clark was sweet, once they both finally admitted to their feelings. I adored Clark's nicknames for Dev- they were so cute!

I'm sad to say good-bye to Lighthouse Bay, this was such a good series!

    4.5 stars round to 5

Such a sweet low-key charmer of a romance. It includes fabulous baked goods, caring ghosts, and elusive bunnies (excuse me - Clark would insist I use the term rabbit). But mostly, it revolves around Dev and Clark kind of making their way to each other. The two of them are fun and funny together - I loved how Dev loosens up and Clark…well, is Clark. About my only regret was that I didn’t have an apple pastry and hot cider at hand while I was reading - this title cements this series as part of my comfort re-read collection.

I adored the first two books in this series, so I had high expectations for this book! Happy to say that Ms. Aislin blew me away! The setting she created and has continued to flesh out in each book is truly magical. Loved these two guys it was such a pleasure getting to know them so well. Magic happens when an author truly immerses the reader to the point where it feels like they are living the story not just reading it!

This third visit to Lighthouse Bay is my favorite of the series so far. Watching the relationship grow and bloom was beautiful to watch. Seeing how they each handled the adversities in their lives. Wondering what new nickname Clark was going to come up with was an added bit of fun. I love how the author weave the cast of home town characters throughout the story. You get a real feel for this small town.

I adore the two main characters. Two scarred individuals that discover that what they always wanted was right there all the time, in more ways than one. Plus, there are great side characters and I learned how anglerfish mate. It is a very good read.

Sweet to the Core is a sweet (pun intended) romance involving scrumptious baked goods, a hurricane, and a hint of the paranormal. Dev can see ghosts, and he's pretty sure the ghost of Clark's grandfather is setting the two of them up for something crazy when the ghost taps the flyer advertising the local Sweet to the Core apple baking contest. Clark has no baking skills, but he's game to help Dev, and not just because he could use his share of the prize money. The book is full of witty banter and cameos from the other Lighthouse Bay couples, and the happily-ever-after is guaranteed. This one's a good choice for the reader who wants something lighthearted and romantic.

I really enjoyed this story. I was fun watching Dev and Clark finally tune into each other's interest in them. I was so happy to see there will be another book in this series.
