Mark Vedis is an average cop. Average for a mage in the Paranormal Police Department (PPD), anyway. After years of doing the jobs nobody else wanted, his career, and life, seemed to be on hold. Then he met a foul-mouthed demon who filled him with power, turned him into a warlock, and dumped him into a world of wealth and debauchery that was disturbing at best.
When an enemy strikes who is far beyond what the cops in the PPD have ever seen, Mark is forced to travel to Thailand and face threats from all sides.
But he soon learns that the chief of the Bangkok PPD is on the take, the local mafia is stirring up trouble, two of his team members have already been killed, and his new partners have trouble keeping their clothes on in public. Okay, the public nudity is probably the least of his worries.
Worst of all, everyone in the supernatural community despises what he's become.

If you like Jim Butcher, Domino Finn, Michael Anderle, M. D. Massey, Rick Gualtieri, Orlando A. Sanchez, K.F. Breene, Shayne Silvers, Ilona Andrews, Brad Magnarella, Patricia Briggs, or Kim Harrison...you'll have a blast with the first book in the Southeast Asia Paranormal Police Department.
John P. Logsdon is a former game designer, producer, and software engineer who shamelessly digs into the deep recesses of his mind to bring forth oddball characters and hilarious plots. He writes primarily in fantasy, urban fantasy, and science fiction, but he's also dabbled in cozy mystery from time to time. To see John's vast library of laughs, visit www.johnplogsdon.com.
Bangkok War lock By John Logsdon and Noah Sturdevant This was a fun book for having a demon in it. A bored, run-of -the- mill guy ends up getting a demon in him. Boy does that change things! Going from mediocre mage to Warlock with some serious power. Then there is the sharing aspect that is wild. Maybe over the top in some places. But they learn to work together. The ending was a bit of a let down but I have the next book ready. I was ill when I read this so I might have given it more stars if I was feeling better. I will probably read it again if I find the next couple of books are terrific!
This is a new adventure for the PPD with new characters and a new writer. Noah Sturdevant, John had a guiding hand on this, it is mostly Noah's work.
We start out in Kansas, where Mark our hero keeps getting kicked around from job to job because his magic is almost nonexsistion. But a little problem with Shapes, named after their looks and how they form. He is suddenly saddled with a demon, and not any demon, but the Demon Prince of the Badlands, the problem is he a bit spoiled, which leads to some very funny moments. Throw in a one night stand that ends up being on his team, and an android, suitable for a Playboy cover and you have a very interest team, who suddenly finds themselves in Bangkok, as the number one team, well the only team, to take on the Shapes.
There is a lot of humor in this, and it keeps your attention, hard to put down. Can not wait for the next one to come out.
I’ve read one of the authors, but the other author is new to me. I both love and hate books like this: Will these two authors together make a great book or a terrible one? No worries! This is the type of book I absolutely love: fun plot, great characters, and an interesting plot. Once I started this book, I pretty much read it until I finished it. This book is an offshoot of another series, but you really don’t need to have read the other series to thoroughly enjoy this one as I’m behind on the other series. If you love well-written, light urban fantasy with some fast action, you really need to give this new series a try! Highly recommend!
This first book in this new series was a bang up success in my book. I couldn't put it down. Mark is a hero, but struggles to maintain the roll he is on. He is assigned to Bangkok because he is a warlock and demon. The rest of his team are assigned as he finds himself in trouble and is rescued by Bert. Mira is assigned too and has her own secret defenses...Mark is still learning. Old friends of ours from the PPD make appearances that only enhance the book further. Now we have to wait until the next book to see how Mark and his crew survive all the new challenges the will confront. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
kindle unlimimited, is basically part of the {Las Vegas} Paranormal Paranormal Police Department, as are A Piper & Payne Supernatural Thriller - Netherworld Paranormal Police Department, and there will be more coming from that 'universe' soonish, thought bit of an odd addition to that universe, but did have couple of {minor} cross over with both the others, and it's just the first book of that series, but seemed to fit in reasonbly well. though if asked for order to read them in {not counting any other series of Logsdon's} would say Ian Dex ones then Piper & Payne then SE Asia PPD one, so no possible spoilers or confusion, etc, though to me it wasn't really, but have read all of the others already

In a spinoff from the incredibly entertaining Ian Dex series, author John Logsdon teams up with Noah Sturdevant to bring us a brand spankin' new adventure. Still full of the innuendo, rolicking humor, irreverance and action we expect from the Paranormal Police Department, this time around we get to meet Mark Vedis, a bottom of the totem pole detective that has been bounced around almost every PPD that would have him. Since his magic is so weak, he is little better than a human cop, but when faced with a life or death decision, Agent Vedis makes a choice that will change his course forever. He must navigate the ins and outs of Bangkok, all while dealing with corruption, a new team he knows WAY too well, a new demon best friend, and oh yeah, that pesky contract--all while trying to find out how the last team was killed before he and his team fall prey to the new supervillain on the block. Grab your passport and get ready to explore this brand new PPD adventure!
I like the fact that new readers to the PPD series' get a quick crash course in the world of PPD but they don't have to worry about what is going on in those other settings to get to know about Mark Vedis and Co. It's a whole new world, well, new country but you get the gist. It is safe to say that Mark doesn't feel like he is going to be promoted any time soon, if any thing is going to happen he will probably be re-located, again. That tends to happen when you are not very powerful. But after an eventful night with Were-cows, murder, mayhem, an old contract and a demon thrown in and you get a hilarious story about a guy doing an impression of a swan (calm on the surface, paddling like crazy underneath) and worrying that he's not doing a very good job at it. Throw in a crazy assortment of characters both old and new, an amazing storyline, an A.I with no filter and you have a fantastic new world to get lost in.
Disclaimer: I love the world of John Logsdon’s Paranormal Police Department, so reviews may be slightly biased
This is a fast paced and quick and easy read. Oh, did I mention it’s also funny as hell? It’s biggest downside is that it ends too quickly. The ending, however, WILL catch you by surprise. You see, when it’s all over, it ain’t over. Fair warning.
This particular book starts a new series in the universe and introduces us to some new and unusual inhabitants. After so many books, I’d thought we’d met them all, but I was wrong. Don’t worry, even if you’ve read none of the others, you’re not missing a thing (besides a lot of fun), and this will make a great introduction.
Pick it up and enjoy a good laugh and a great time.
JPL has opened up a new chapter in the PPD world as his exciting Ian Dex adventures have now went worldwide as now experience a new type of Cop. Meet Mark Vedis a lowly PPD suddenly realised his heritage will give him a lot more power and a new outlook in the Bangkok PPD. Enter mayhem, juvenile humour and the expected twists and thrills we have come to associate with the JPL books. This new collarboration with a newbie author works extremely well and I feel that this is a start of a wonderful relationship and an intriguing chapter in the international PPD books.
The Bangkok Warlock tells the story of an underdog turned hero. Mark Vedis works as a low level mage beat cop with the K.C. P.P.D. until he discovers that he has more talent than he realized. The next thing he knows, he's the head of a team of agents and battling bad guys who, until recently, would have been way above his party grade. The world building is well developed and believable. The characters are interesting and engaging, if slightly raunchy on occasion, and the action is fast paced. All in all, a truly entertaining read.
A great new addition to the PPD world. It's nice to see a guy who thought he was nothing, come into his own. Being merged with a Demon could go either way. There hasn't been a Warlock in 100 years, so Mark Vedis is on his own. Well not exactly, but landing in Bangkok with an unknown dangers, will be a challenge. Not sure who to trust, new powers to test, will he survive? A laugh out loud story, with danger at every turn. A must read new series set in the Paranormal Police Dept. Looking forward to more adventures in South East Asia.
Fantastic new extension to the Paranormal Police Departments (PPD) World!
Brilliant new setting for a PPD novel & what an interesting bunch of characters, both good & bad... As soon as I started reading it, I couldn't put it down! Super read!!
Very clever to have & link to Piper and separately an active Reaper! Good story line, great set up for a new series. I cannot wait until the next book!. Well done to you both & thank you, please keep them coming!!
There's a new team in the PDP, in fact a special team for special problems. A sorry bunch a misfits who in true JPL style have way too many hormones which could lead to all sorts of embarrassing moments next day. Some great new members with some great new names, names which open the door for countless puns and innuendos. Add some new baddies and a couple of fleeting appearances from the old crew and you get another fine read with some laugh aloud moments. Can't wait for more.
Customer Review The PPD takes on Bangkok and it will never be the same.
With the expanding supernatural problems around the world the PPD is there to intervene. Bangkok requires assistance and newly outed Warlock Mark Vedis is the one to do it. He and his "team" must find the problem and do what the PPD does best, create havoc kill the bad guys. What a incredible addition to the series, I can't wait for the next book.
Mark Vedis is having a bad day, and it's only getting weirder.
I really enjoyed this book. Inwas a little Leary since Noah Sturtevant was writing in an already fleshed out world created by John Logsden, but the story kept my attention and was a great addition to the Paranormal Police Department. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book
This was a pleasure to read came across this by chance and was bitten by the snarky humour ! Love Bert the demon who by his own mouth has a yellow streak afoot wide and a mile long! Cant get the image of him ina pink tux out of my head! Nice twist on the villian didnt see that one coming. Will noe have to check out the others in the PPD series!
The Bangkok Warlock was such a shockingly surprisingly day of great reading.I look forward to all my nights reading through the PPD series and getting acquainted with the ‘Characters’. Lots of action and great character subplots will guarantee I have to drag myself into work each morning, trying to keep myself from reading while stuck in traffic.
Having thoroughly enjoyed the original PPD line of books, I was excited to give this spinoff series a try - I was not disappointed! The writing style is a bit different from the original series but not distractingly so, and is to be expected with both a different author and a unique new main character to focus on. I found the story very enjoyable and intriguing; I will definitely read more!
Holy Smokes... I LOVED this book. Everything about this book is fantastic. It has adventure, crude humor, tons of innuendos, violence, things that blow up (usually people), and of course a kick-butt crew of fun. A fresh take on the Urban Fantasy genre that has left me begging for more from this author!!
Outstanding and hilarious. The unlikeliest of heroes, Mark Vedis is put through the wringer as he discovers his whole life was a lie. Full of twists, turns, action, and hilarity. A welcome addition to the PPD universe.
This is a great first book for the combined talents of John Logsdon and Noah Sturdevant. Plenty of action and comedy. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
I completely enjoyed this book! It was fast paced, had a very good mystery, and dealt with more flavors of Paranormals than you can shake a stick at! The main characters are serious but fun, snarky, funny and decent. The bad guys are classic villains. Well done Noah!
There were a lot of unexpectedly comedic and dramatic moments. I could not put the book down, I even dropped my phone on my face reading because the day caught up with me before I was willing to put the book down! (I fell asleep.)
Really enjoyed this book from first page to last. Fast paced exciting and a great addition to this ppd world. Loved the characters and parts really made me smile! Thoroughly recommend to others - check out the whole series.
This is the start of a new line in the amazing world that the author has created! It’s exciting and makes me laugh. I love getting sucked into the lives of awesome characters!!
Book was well written with engaging characters. A lot of sexual humor that was pretty funny without being overly crude. Overall an entertaining and enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to the next installment.
I can't wait to read the next one. I liked the development of the characters. And they balanced them out, without making them cliches. Others have covered the rest in their reviews, so I'm going to sleep now.
I loved the world and system of magic that the authors created. The humor was well done with demon Bert a hilariously inappropriate sidekick. Lots of twists toward the end that kept me guessing too. Can't wait to check out the next book.
