This bundle gives you missions 1 - 5 from the hilarious Platoon F series. You'll get space ships, space marines, robots, androids, impossible technology, time travel, alien races, and good old-fashioned military insanity slapped together on a tapestry of futuristic mayhem. Mission 1: The SSMC Reluctant Lieutenant Orion Murphy is scheduled for execution due to a clerical error. His only out is to undergo a complete physical makeover, get a rank and name change, and agree to take over a new platoon in the Segnal Space Marine Corps (SSMC). Seeing that it's a case of comply or die, he accepts the offer. A week later, he finds himself standing on the bridge of The SSMC Reluctant with a misfit crew, an insane special agent, an antiquated robot mechanic, and his updated identity. ...it all makes Harr wonder if execution may have been the better option. Mission 2: Angry Robots A group of antiquated robots have decided that they've had enough of being treated like second-class citizens. Working together, they take over the sewage plant on Segnal Prime and start pumping the sludge back up into the buildings. Captain Don Harr and his team of misfit androids must traverse the underground tunnel systems, take on dog-sized sewer rats, and wrestle control of the plant back while trying to maintain a semblance of sanity as they slosh through loads of crap. Sometimes it's abundantly clear what the "F" in Platoon F truly means. Mission 3: The SSMC Voyeur A space probe that was sent out 500 years ago has returned...sort of. It's actually a copy of the original model of The SSMC Voyeur, which begs the question: What happened to the original craft? The crew of The SSMC Reluctant is dispatched to learn about the originating planet that sent this cloned vehicle. And, if Rear Admiral Conster gets his way, they're also to blow the entire planet that it came from to smithereens. Mission 4: Earthlings After their last mission, the Segnal Space Marine Corps (SSMC) saw the value of the GONE Drive. The ability to move through space in a blink of an eye would be highly appealing to any military body, but specifically to Rear Admiral Parfait who has a bit of a thing for military bodies. Follow the crew as they hit the Middle Ages, the Mesozoic era, the 1940s, and 2400s of Earth. Mission 5: Synthetic DNA After a close call in the year 2440 at the planet called "Earth," the crew of The SSMC Reluctant makes a quick escape back to their home of Segnal. However, Geezer didn't have time to set the clock on the GONE Drive to return them back to their own era, and things have changed greatly in the Segnal System over the past 500 years. The system is ruled by Synthetic Lifeforms now, and they find humans and standard robots an affront to their intellectual capacity. From their perspective, only Synthetic Lifeforms should be allowed to live.

I have not laughed so much, or found myself forced into making so many out loud comments, while reading a book in years! This is simply one of the most delightful humor filled sci-fi romps I have EVER read!!! I can only hope the author writes more about these wonderful characters, although I will need to buy more muscle relaxers to handle the spasms I'll get from laughing until it hurts as I read (Seriously, not kidding a bit here).
While it is biting humor and satire, it also makes for a rather unique view just from the standpoint of pure science fiction. If you like laughter with your sci-fi fix, then this is definitely the book for you! I also recommend the purchase the Pentology because the stories themselves are not that long and you will just end up paying more for the individual books anyway. You will buy more books if you enjoy this kind of literature, trust me as there is simply no way you can read the first book and not want to immediately dive into more of this wonderful whacky world of adventure and hilarity!

Aaarrrgh! I wrote it all in the title and that was foolish. Hope you can see it all up there.

I saw this author sponsored on Facebook amd I decided to check him out. He was being compared to Douglas Adams (which of course would be enough to intrigue any sci-fi comedy fan), but after buying and reading this series I think a more apt comparison would be Piers Anthony and the Xanth series. Logsdon does engage the silly side tangents we all know and love in Adams work, but the puns and humour seem more akin to Anthony. Either way these books (this is a 5 book series in one), are an easy relaxing read full of laughs and dirty minded snickers. I highly recommend this author when youre in the mood for an easy and humourous read!

I hats when people tell me to stick with a series, because it will "grow on me," but this is a rare tine when that applies. Start the series for puns and easy laughs, but stay with it as it evolves into... more easy laughes, but with interesting characters and a world you want to learn more about.

Hilarious. Logsdon's humor is akin to the great spoofs and comedies of the late 70s through early 90s with a great mix of zingers and absurd situations. If you like Mel Brooks' films, Airplane, Monty Python, The Young Ones, The Jerk, Police Academy, Reno 911, MASH, The Man With Two Brains, etc, you'll like these books.
A few reviews have said that these books aren't intellectually stimulating, don't have a lot of depth, etc. All I can say is that that isn't the point. These aren't treatises on the human condition. They're meant to incite laughter, and they do it well. Give them a read, laugh your butt off, and then go grab any of Logsdon's other series. It's all good stuff.

Adult sci-fi without heading into triple x territory. I enjoy the tongue in cheek levity Logsdon uses to deal with real life sexual complexities. I love the references to all the sci-fi that's come before, and then going places no one has gone before. While visiting places we've already been. Kind of. Familiar yet new. I will follow all the adventures of Platoon F.

The story concept was really good and the potential for humor was there, but it was just way too overdone for my taste.
I love sick and twisted humor but too much is too much!
Something may be funny the first few times, or if farther between incidents, but I thought it just got old and boring too fast in this book.
I made it through the first book but just couldn't make it through the awards dpeech at the beginning of the next.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the hype.
Reviewed in Canada on October 22, 2021
This set of five stories were not as well written as they could have been. The base plot is charming enough that I slogged through the ongoing attempts at a level of humor based on sexual preferences being mocked through overt derision and covert scorn in the form of nomenclature chosen for double entendre. I have definitely read better written versions of this type of story. I am NOT going to read anything else by this author until he grows up and leaves the school-yard sex-jokes behind him. I found myself wondering when the characters would start declaring that girls have cooties as that was one of the few tropes that were not called upon here. So, not the 'Hilarious Romp' that was advertised. Disappointing.

Red Dwarf was not something I got into when I was younger, but if this was a TV series I could be very tempted to watch it. It has all the aspects it says in the blurb and possibly a bit more besides. While I didn't exactly laugh out loud i certainly chuckled a lot. Worth a read in my humble opinion.

4.0 out of 5 stars It might not be D. Adams but it definitely tries

Initially I was quite sceptical of this. After battling on through the first 50 or so pages I have started to actually enjoy it. I am not sure whether my limits lowered somewhat, or something but it became quite interesting to see what the crew will do next. It also shows an interesting view of future/past/present :). All in all it was worth to spend those few bucks to meet the crew and even the extremely annoying Purfait

I bought these books during lockdown. The author has a very unusual sense of humour which makes for a catchy book to read which is very amusing.
