I love reading and I love writing even more- I balance (not always successfully) writing, a career, a family, and a menagerie of dogs, cats, and backyard chickens.

Writing allows me to live vicariously through my characters, escape to worlds and experiences I might never have, and my characters always have a witty response or a perfect retort. (no more 5 minutes or 5 hours later having the thought of 'that's what I should have said!')

I'm an avid coffee consumer and adult beverage fan. I love catching up with my friends on Marco Polo and working out at they gym. I avoid cleaning, cardio, and carbs- unless it's an emergency.

I carve out writing time by starting my day at 515am. Which unfortunately means I’m in bed earlier than I’d like. If anyone knows how to be a night owl AND an early bird, drop me a line!

This was definitely a slow burn romance. The storyline was true to heart and very believe able that you felt that you were looking in on someone's life. It gave the reader a story that they could trust and not want to put down. It was very realistic and left the reader fulfilled.

This story was a lot of fun! I love how it started at a Ren fair and that was weaved throughout the story.

These two characters have their own baggage and bring it to the table well.

It was also interesting as this was at in 1998. Counseling wasn’t as big yet then as it is now but they could both benefit from it.

The epilogue was beautiful and ends with more of a happy for now with the “ever after” lined up.

While Kathryn is attending a Celtic fair hoping to drum up business for her small business, she is attracted to Ian, a drummer in an authentic Scottish band. He notices her and approaches her during his break. Their chemistry is off the charts. After their steamy kisses become hotter in the parking lot, Kathryn gets frightened of her feelings and rushes to her car to drive quickly away.

Back at work, she is startled to discover that the CEO of her prospective new client is the handsome, charming man she met at the fair.

This is Kathryn and Ian’s story. How they learn to rise up from their hurtful past relationships and develop a genuine trusting, loving relationship.

I loved the characters in this story. The author writes a fast paced beautiful story and I look forward to reading more by her.

This was a first from this author for me. I had this author reach out to me on TikTok to see if I would be interested in reading her series. I am not usually a fan of slow burns, but I did enjoy this book. Kathryn and Ian’s story is definitely interesting. I love seeing how Ian grows and matures throughout the book. It’s also refreshing to see a character learn to move past their trauma or reservations when it comes to a new relationship.

Let me preface this by saying I rarely read fiction and then when I do, never romance. Just not my genre, but I picked this up and am enjoying the heck out of it. The story pulls me along and the characters are complex enough to be compelling without things getting too heavy either. It's definitely a light beach read, but real life is heavy enough. Nice to escape into this world for a bit. I'm already excited to read the second in the series!

I loved the concept of Faire’s Fair. When I saw it was set in the late 90s I was excited for some blast from the past references. The author explained, when a free copy was offered in exchange for an honest review, that although the book had Renaissance Faire’s it was more of an office billionaire romance. I loved the first third of the book, the banter and sexual tension that started at the Faire continued into the office and I was loving it! This story also had the perfect amount of steam throughout! However, by the half way point I found myself wanting more. Once the sexual tension was over, so was the banter and the characters seemed flat. The hero and heroine both have things in their past that make them hesitant to have a real relationship, but it’s not given enough detail to really feel for them and the internal struggle. I found myself sick of reading Kathryn’s basic reasoning and wishing she’d just get over it or if I was missing something about the previous relationship. On the other hand Ian’s history was so glossed over I wondered when it was going to be fleshed out (the answer isn’t in this book, but maybe in the prequel I decided to forego). Additionally, at about the half way point Ian came off as a bit of a creep. Honestly, I wasn’t sure I wanted them to end up together. Ironically, by the end I liked Ian more than Katheryn. The settings and the timelines also weren’t my favorite. As stated I was expecting office romance, really the romance is out of the office when the banter is gone however the office isn’t out of the book as you learn all about Katheryn’s growing business. I liked the trips, but they felt like blips in the bigger picture of growing a business. The last third of the book remedies this by staying out of the office by skipping weeks at a time so chapters no longer have the same timing. Overall this was a good debut novel and worth the read. If you’re looking to check out a new promising series this might be right up your ally as book 2 appears to feature Janet who was a breath of fresh air throughout this book!

Kathryn Reilly runs her own Corporate Training Business and hired Janet Maxwell to help her. Janet ropes Kathyn into going to a Ceildh, a Scottish gathering, to get a new client. Ian Somerland and his buddies are in a band called Rapscallions and they are playing there. While on a break, Kathryn watches the band. After their set, Ian approaches Kathryn and they have fun together walking around. Even though Ian would like more, Kathryn ends their time together with only a kiss.

The next day, Kathryn walks into her big meeting with Echo Technologies and guess who the CEO of the company is? Yes, Ian Somerland is the CEO of Echo Technologies.

Will Ian remember Kathryn from the Ceildh? Will they be able to work together?

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it when a chance meeting gets complicated
Reviewed in Canada on May 25, 2021
From the first page the characters in this book jumped off the page. They were rich and complicated and had their own desires and needs. The romance built organically and I liked that it wasn't a simple will they/won't they, there were some real obstacles both emotionally and environmentally. But then they also knew how to have fun when it called for it (if you know what I mean)!

It was also fun going back in time a bit to what Austen was like in the early tech boom. A fun setting for sure. And the juxtaposition of the business world and the faires allowed you to see different sides of the characters.

Looking forward to book 2 in the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars HIghland Games from across the pond

A wonderful rom-com set between Texas and Scotland, fittingly beginning with a medieval-style Scottish ‘faire’ taking place in Texas. Kathryn, throwing herself into her nascent business partly as an antidote to a relationship-gone-wrong, is working the event as a serving ‘wench’ to impress would-be clients Sporran Enterprises when she encounters Ian, the drummer in a band playing there. Sexual attraction occurs, of the love-hate variety initially, and it’s only Kathryn’s memory of her recent relationship disaster which stops things from getting totally out of control and them becoming a one-off incident rather than something deeper.

Because, despite what Kathryn might think, she and Ian are destined to meet again, and not quite in any way she would imagine if she were consulted on the matter. He returns, looking and acting like someone else, as it were, and the heat is ramped up between them as the action moves to Scotland and back again while the pair try to reconcile the inner demons of their respective pasts with what’s developing between them.

A well-paced narrative which delivers the right outcome as well as the prospect of a sequel or spin-off on the way.
