A Yearning Heart: A sweet and wholesome romance - Hearts of Aspen Valley 1 Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 315 ratings

A father determined to protect his betrayed heart and the son he loves

A woman with unyielding plans to move on from the mistakes of her past.

Liam Prins has come back to Aspen Valley to make a fresh start in life for himself and his son, Matthew. To fill the bitter void his divorce has created. Aspen Valley was his childhood home and Liam wants Matthew to experience the same sense of belonging and family. The last thing he needs is for the boy to become attached to a woman who makes no secret of her plan to leave town. A woman who has drastically changed from the sweet and shy girl he once tutored to the spunky and sassy woman who is charismatic, charming and eye-catching. Liam is intrigued at the change in Aubrey but can’t afford to let his son become attached to her. Or himself.

Aubrey doesn’t want anything to distract her from her plan to sell the restaurant she’s inherited and put Aspen Valley in her rear-view mirror. The town holds too many humiliating memories. Then Matthew and his handsome father come into her restaurant and back into her life. As her high school tutor, Dr. Liam Prins was her first crush and first love and the pull is still there. And his son Matthew steals her heart much like Liam once stole hers. But she’s not the shy, retiring girl she used to be and the mistakes she made haunt her still.

As their attraction sparks and build, both must decide whether they should guard their hearts, or open themselves to the healing power of love.

From USA Today Bestselling author, Carolyne Aarsen comes A Yearning Heart, a sweet romance about second chances at love and moving on from the pain of the past. Buy it today to continue your Aspen Valley Adventure where people find their way back to love, family and happy ever afters.

I’ve come to expect a lot from Carolyne Aarsen. She has risen to the top of my favorite authors list and not just because of the spelling of her last name. Her books are always “God-centered” without being preachy. Her characters are complex and her plots are rich with real-life complications. I’ve even gotten used to the odd unnecessary’u’ thrown into words and the use of the metric system. (Lighten up, my Canadian compatriots, I’m just kidding!) Ms. Aarsen’s books are always clean in their language and sexual elements without losing any believability in the connection between the main characters. I don’t remember how I got this book but I think it was free from the author. That hasn’t influenced my opinion of this book, however.

I liked this story because it includes a story and prayers throughout. The family us bug and supportive. I loved how they talked through so many problems.

I enjoyed this book about the Prin family that lived in Aspen Valley. I liked how the past can be forgiven with time and how Aubrey learned she had value and people who were in her corner. It was so nice to see her relationship grow with her father.
I also liked that Aubrey had become friends with women who did not have her back when she was in high school. I liked that they apologized for that and moved on. I enjoyed the scriptures in the book because they made me reflect. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

I loved this book. A good lesson for parents to stay in close contact with children as there will be challenges as they go through school. A large family and how close they were, and after being away for several the doctor had lots of adjustment. Good love story and all the problems they incurred.

Aubrey has suffered greatly at the absence of all the things she’s been yearning for all her life. She’s so close to getting all of them and yet has to suffer once more. Along with learning to value herself she has also learned to forgive, earning her HEA.

This story was not what I expected from Carolyne Aarsen. I love her stories because of the deep connectedness to God but this story felt shallow and lacking in the way it dealt with the issues that were described.
