Corio Heights #2

The Flirty Neighbor

Rate this book
What do you do with a connection you can’t explain?

Ian had been burned more than once by his past relationships. After being seen as an extension of his family and not for himself, he swears off serious and dons his flirty shield to protect his heart. But as he develops a friendship with Scott, he wonders if more is possible.

Scott dealt with bullying for most of his life, leading to his lack of confidence. Now in his thirties, he struggles with his weight and image issues, but is ready to overcome the insecurities that have been drilled into him. However, he didn’t expect his personal trainer to change his life in more ways than one.

The Flirty Neighbor is a bisexual awakening M/M romance with low-angst, eccentric family members, lots of flower references, and HEA guaranteed. It is the second book of the Corio Heights series and can be read as a standalone, but will be more enjoyable read as a series.

I was really excited to read this after I really enjoyed book 1, but I found this one so boring. Book 1 was a good example of making a book sweet and low angst without being boring, but I feel like this one really failed at that.

“Love was like a rose: beautiful, lovely, and littered with thorns that could hurt you. But with some patience and courage, each thorn could be conquered, leaving behind a strong bloom that could weather any storm.”

When you get halfway through a book, to realize that a smile hasn’t left your face, you may have to accept that you are enjoying the book. And enjoy I did!

This is a sweet (sweet with a capital S) book with two wonderful guys who make your heart swell a couple of sizes. They are the kind of characters, that, if you had to take sides, you would be torn. They are both delightful and fit perfectly together. As each struggles to believe they are ‘enough’, they soothe each other's frayed emotions and provide the strength to the other to believe in themselves and each other.

If you want a book that will leave you smiling and feeling a little lighter, you can’t go wrong with this one.

Another super sweet addition to the Corio Heights series by Rye Cox. I loved how both Ian and Scott became friends, which turned into mutual attraction and later love. This was Scotts first-time with a man, but he never shied away from the intimacy with Ian. He found Ian attractive and he was going to go for it.

Ian was such a bright soul. He had kind words for everyone he knew and was always cheering his friends on. Speaking of friends, it was nice to get a few glimpses of Caleb and Zack still going strong. I forgot how exuberant Caleb can be.

Both Ian and Scott had some insecurities from the past they had to overcome in order for their relationship to strengthen and move forward. I liked this about them. Real people aren't perfect, but they can be perfect for each other and that was exactly what Ian and Scott were.

This was written much better than the first book. I know that sounds harsh, but The New Neighbor needed some serious tightening as far as how certain things were written. I'm going to guess (maybe?) that The Flirty Neighbor had a different editor because the differences were almost like night and day.

I loved Ian in the first book. I loved him more in his. I also liked Scott, though I felt really bad for him because of his HORRIBLE mother.

This book wasn't as much of a slow burn as the first one, which was great. I didn't think Zack and Caleb would ever admit their feelings for each other. Ian and Scott are friends first, but they take things up a notch fairly quickly. They were really good together.

Oh, this was such a sweet, feeling good story.

Scott is a shy sweetheart, who was fighting with his weight for all.of his life. And his mother did not help the situation. I really did not like her much for most of the story ... but maybe his father was worse as he must have realised what she is doing, even when unwillingly, to their son and never said anything.

Ian comes from a wealthy family but doesn't want to work in the family business ... but most of his acquaintances and ex relationships were looking for the connections they can get through him.

Both characters have their insecurities due to their backgrounds and they're showing ... and have an impact on their relationship.
But I adored that they talked about them ... mostly.

All in all I loved the story, the characters, their relationship and the setting. And I am looking forward to the next book.

I am happy that I got an ARC but my opinions are as always honest and my own

Rye Cox made a fan out of me with The New Neighbor and I was eager to jump into The Flirty Neighbor the moment I got a chance. I was not disappointed, because once again Rye brought to us a beautiful, low angst love story.

Scott and Ian met in the first book. Ian was Caleb's best friend and Scott was one of Zack's. However, you didn't get to know them nearly as well as you did in this one - and in this one, not only did I get to know them, I absolutely fell in love with them. They are both such soft little jellybeans that I wanted to snuggle them and put them in my pocket and protect them. The fact that each came with their own things to work through - and we got to see them working through these issues both individually and together - made me so happy.

They were the type of characters and had the type of relationship that made them better.

I loved that we also got to see more of the side characters as well. We got to know Ian's coworkers at the gym and got to see the other boys in the building. Once again, the chapters with the other boys made me practically salivate for Will's book, but that's a tale for another time. Rye's abilities towards characterization gave each character a unique voice, no matter how long they were on the page and made each character feel important to the story, not just cardboard cut outs meant to fill room on the page and make the characters appear more well-rounded without doing any of the work to round them out.

The plot was adorable, and I loved the fact that it was so low angst. I loved the way Scott and Ian trusted one another and communicated with one another. The few times that communication lapsed, it was handled maturely. I loved the times they'd get nervous about different steps in their relationship and how they'd talk about them.

Basically I loved everything about this book. It was so fluffy and sweet and I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking for a read that feels like taking a ride on a cloud with how fluffy it is.

Oh my gosh!!! I was so excited to see more of Scott and Ian after the tease of them in The New Neighbor, and this book did not disappoint. I loved everything about it!
Scott is such a sweetheart and so bold and willing to try things with Ian, the first guy he's ever been attracted to. Ian is so supportive and encouraging with Scott as he works on getting in better shape, and is quick to tell Scott how much he admires him no matter what.
These two...the hikes, the flowers, the easy acceptance of each other. They are so sweet, and this book is just all the warm fuzzies and happy feels, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a sweet, cute, low-angst book. The Flirty Neighbor is the perfect follow-up to the New Neighbor, and it was so fun to see cameos of Zach and Caleb from the first book.

Loved, loved, loved, Ian and Scott. The story left me with a smile! They were so much fun to read!! Scott decides to go to a gym and Ian is a personal trainer. Scott has had a rough upbringing; his parents didn’t instill any securities in him so now he’s 35 and very insecure in himself. Ian is a flirt!! I loved the blushes he brought out in Scott! Scott’s insecurities felt so real. The story kept me engaged, hooked me from the beginning and didn’t let go. Overall, a fantastic, lighthearted read, I cannot wait for the next one! The story was really well written, the pacing flowed smoothly, highly recommend. I am voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. What a Sweet couple! I loved that Ian and Scott were both normal guys with great personalities, but still had insecurities of their own. Ian hid himself under his flirtations, but Scott pretty much made his known since his biggest one was his perception of himself not being attractive or good enough because of his weight. My favorite thing about their early interactions was what a Blusher Scott was when Ian flirted!!! It was endearing! Being a Bi awakening for Scott we get some sweet and steamy times for these two! I received an ARC of this book and recommend if you enjoy reading about real life guys gaining confidence and love with each other!

I loved this book. It was well written and had an excellent storyline. Showing how two people could have so many insecurities while the other one thinks they are perfect was great reading. It's always nice to see people in books that aren't perfect and have to work through things, which these two did wonderfully together. I love reading Rye Cox and so far this series is great so far, can't wait for the next one.

Did not really enjoy the book. MCs especially Scott at 35 yrs old, still could not stand up to his mother.
She treated and always called him, her little boy, continuously told him he was never good enough and with the excuse that she is just worried about him. Ian had his own issues with his parents since he comes from a very wealthy family. Yet he still did what he wanted and what made him happy. Other than that I found the story boring.

This was my first book by Rye Cox and I adored it. I really enjoy bi awakening books and this book didn’t disappoint. That fact that both Scott and Ian had insecurities made this an even better read for me, it was such a sweet read. I loved the characters and the crazy family members from both sides. The book was so well written and had lots of sweetness but also lots of heat. What more could you want in a book! I can’t wait for more books by Rye.

This is the second in the Corio Heights series, you could read it as a standalone but it'd be best if you read the first book before this.

I really liked the first book and was looking forward to this one. I liked it just fine, I didn't love it. It had been a while since I read the first book and to me, it just seemed to jump straight into Scott and Ian's story without any preamble. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it was just a little confusing at the start as I couldn't remember who they were from the first book at the start, and I think the assumption is we already knew these characters from there and I just didn't remember all that well - probably that's on me but I'd have liked a little recap, perhaps. It took me a while to remember who Ian was too and I didn't remember Scott at all.

I did like them both, I've read a few books now with the gym trainer/client trope and on the whole they've been done well - this was no exception. Scott's issues with his image and self-confidence were relatable and handled very sympathetically by the writer. Ian too has his issues with his family, which we find out as the story goes on.

I liked the slow development of Scott and Ian's relationship, it was obvious from the start that Ian liked Scott but took a while for Scott to come round to it, and I like that it wasn't rushed, and given time to develop naturally. They seemed to fit together quite well and there was plenty of heat once they did get together.

Overall I liked the book enough that I'll probably carry on with the series in future.

I received an ARC from GRR and this is my honest review.

This was the sweetest book! I think that Scott and Ian are perfect for each other and their coming together was beautiful in so many ways. They were the yin to each other’s yang.

“Love was like a rose: beautiful, lovely, and littered with thorns that could hurt you. But with some patience and courage, each thorn could be conquered, leaving behind a strong bloom that could weather any storm.”

Scott meets Ian through Zach and Eric as he gets brought into the larger friend group consisting of Zach’s boyfriend Caleb, Jason, and Will. They all bond and start hanging out and it doesn’t seem to matter that Scott is the only straight guy. Scott starts working out with Ian as he is a personal trainer and they get closer and sparks start to fly. After a night at the bar, watching Ian flirt with another guy, Scott realizes he has feelings for Ian. They have their first kiss on their hike after Ian explains what a bleeding heart flower is to Scott and that it symbolizes passionate love. Theirs is a sweet love that bolsters the other when necessary. Even when Scott thinks he may have ruined it all, he goes to Ian and tells him he’ll fight for him. These two were meant to be together. This is the perfect book to read for an afternoon of happiness!

Now, that I’ve read the second book in the series, I’m off to catch up on Caleb and Zach’s love story before Will’s story comes out in August.

I enjoyed getting to know Ian and Scott more in The Flirty Neighbor. They are best friends of the MCs in book one and there was a spark of something there that is then expanded on here.
They start as friends and with Ian offering to help Scott at the gym where he's a personal trainer. Scott had been put down and bullied his whole life so his confidence is quite low but Ian is very good at looking on the bright side and showcasing the positives to Scott. Ian has his own troubles with confidence when it comes to partners being with him for the right reasons, his family being one of the wealthiest in the area.
It's an easy relationship for them both to fall into, though it takes Scott a minute with him never having been with a man before. There's no denying their attraction, however, and so a sweet and heated romance begins. I love how they build each other up, helping to be more confident and believe in themselves. Of course, what's a story without a tiny bit of angst but all works out well in the end. It's also great getting to meet up with their friends again. Seeing how Caleb and Zach are doing as well as Will and Jason. I'm looking forward to the third book to see how the two friends work out, could be very entertaining with how oblivious Jason is.
A recommended read for those who enjoy a fairly low angst read, friends to lovers romance with a bisexual awakening twist.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Cheers for a body-positive story wrapped up in a sweet, feel-good, friends-to-lovers romance. Scott is a sweetheart, and his insecurities about his weight and self-worth make him all the more endearing. I was rooting for his happiness - from within and in finding love - from the first page.

While Scott (35) gains some confidence in getting fit, he also becomes aware of a newfound attraction to his outgoing friend and personal trainer Ian (26). As Scott lets his guard down in exploring his first relationship with a man, Ian does the same with opening his closed-off heart.

It gives their relationship a delicious slow-burn feel even though it all moves along quickly. They are so patient, caring and vulnerable with each other, it's easy to see why they fall hard and they make a playful, adorable, and steamy couple.

I had expected Scott's bi-awakening to come with a bit more questioning or angst rather than easy acceptance, particularly given all his other self-analysis, but that's more observation than quibble.

This story works as a standalone, but friends play an important role in the MCs' lives so I'd recommend reading Book 1 (plus, it's another good read). My heart is already cracked for best friend roommates and should-be couple Will and Jason, and I can't wait for their book. I received an advance reading e-copy of this book and have left this honest review voluntarily. (Also read in KU.)

If I had to use one word to describe this book, it would be sweet. The budding and then growing relationship between Scott and Ian was lovely to watch.

This is a friends to lovers story that starts with Ian giving some personal training sessions to Scott. Scott has almost no self confidence, and after meeting his mother, I can see why. His past is riddled with disparaging remarks from her that made him doubt himself. Ian has his own set of insecurities as well. Men in his past only wanted his family name and access to his money. I really liked that Scott had no idea about who Ian’s family was going in.

Their relationship grew in a very organic way that I liked. Scott didn’t have the typical freak out after being attracted to a man. Ian was willing to take a chance on Scott and it really worked. Scott’s freak out about whether or not they should be together doesn’t come until later and it made me cringe slightly. After all the time they spent together, I would have thought Scott would be a little better at being confident, even if he had to fake it.

Overall, this was a very sweet book with little angst, some spice and a satisfying HEA.

Ian and Scott.
Fun, playful and flirty. Gahhh I loved this story. I am a sucker for body positive books and loved how much Ian was attracted to Scott. Scott has been bullied his whole life about his weight and image, so when confident and attractive Ian helps Scott realize he is a catch, I was swooning so hard.

This story was also a sexual self discovery mini journey, where Scott learns he might not be as straight as he thought. I love stories like this, especially when the characters are older than thirty. I have learned that sexuality can truly be fluid... and we as people are always changing and growing. So for those of us who discover things later in life, we need these stories.

This story is low angst and had me smiling most of the time. I also liked that when we got to the confrontation of the story, the author didn't dwell on the characters pain. (Sometimes authors stretch it out and I just tend to get angry because the characters could easily fix things by not acting so ridiculous. I didn't get that vibe or impression at all, so thank you Rye Cox!!!)

I was grinning through out this whole book and can't wait to read the first book in the series as well as continue onto the next books this author has planned.

This is the second book in the Corio Heights series that can be read as standalone, but these are interconnected stories, so following the reading order might be best.
The Flirty Neighbor was such a satisfying read: sweet story yet steamy... The right amount when needed ;-)
Flirty/outspoken Ian & self-deprecating/open Scott are perfect together.
Their relationship starts out as a friendship, grows organically into a meaningful connection, and quickly an undeniable attraction.
Apart from worrying about ruining their friendship, Scott is supposedly straight and didn't have much luck with his previous relationships.
Gay-for-you/bi-awakening is one of my favorite tropes in MM romance.
I love witnessing either the initial struggle or the acceptance of the newly found attraction between the characters. Here, it's the latter.
Don't get me wrong, they both have issues to overcome (no spoilers), but there's no useless drama, like I sometimes see with this trope. The characters are relatable and lovable, including the awesome cast of secondary characters. Ian's relationship with his grandma is adorable and their love of everything flower was very sweet... I learned a lot!
It was my first read by Rye Cox, suggested by a friend, and it won't be my last.

I read books 1 & 2 of Corio Heights, and Rye Cox does such a great job of making you feel warm and fuzzy when reading her books. It's like snuggling with a warm cup of hot chocolate and makes you feel good and also appreciate the precious daily moments in your own life. I love reading a little bit of it every day before going to bed, but there's only two books out so far :'( So please write more books!!

I particularly LOVED the chemistry between Scott and Ian in The Flirty Neighbor, Rye Cox does a phenomenal job of making your heart flutter as you follow their electrifying interactions with each other. Everything about the passionate scenes were chef's kiss <3 and all the sweet and sentimental scenes were so heart warming. Ian (and also Sherry)'s dialogue is really charming and I definitely laughed out loud multiple times while reading this book!

tldr: if you like warm fuzzy feelings with many delicious moments of heat, this book is for you ;)

He will overcome his insecurities

I loved this book! It’s back to Corio Heights for the story of Ian and Scott. Two men from completely different backgrounds will find love in each other. Ian’s from a wealthy family and his relationships have failed because no one ever saw him for who he really is. Scott comes from a background of tough love, his mother always finding ways to make him feel insecure. The two start out as friends and then Ian will become his personal trainer. A weekend hike will start them on their journey to so much more but it won’t be without a few bumps. A charity ball will bring Scott’s insecurities back to the forefront when someone in Ian’s social circle will voice something Scott feels all too well and it will send him running. Scott’s mom will make him realize that he is worthy and he will fight to get Ian back and it will be worth every struggle in the end.

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

Title - The Flirty Neighbour (Corio Heights #2)
Author - Rye Cox
Genre - MM Romance
Published - February 2022

What I Thought About The Book - I really enjoyed this book, I enjoyed the dynamic between the two characters, I loved how Ian brought out the confidant side in Scott. He helps and encourages him without making him feel like he has to change unless he wants to and should only be doing it for himself nobody else. I also loved how he stands up for Scott against his mother when she puts Scott down. I also loved how Scott saw Ian for who he was and not just for the money and wealth that comes with his family. The character development was brilliant throughout the book.
The plot was interesting, kept you hooked and wanting to know what happens next. I haven't read the first book in this series but I shall defiantly be reading it now and any more that may follow.

This story was so, so sweet and the message it sends about body positivity and loving yourself....👏🏻 Perfection!!! Ian and Scott, what can I say....they were exactly what each other needed in a partner....Scott needed a man to center him, give him encouragement, be his rock and show him just how much he was worth...Ian did that in spades!!! Ian needed his partner to show him he was much more than his family name, to give him unconditional love and show him that he's worth the world with or without social status ❤️ Scott proved that and so much more. This book was a steamy, low angst, and heart felt story of two men with enough emotional baggage to last a lifetime that found the perfect match in each other, I would defiantly recommend this read....I cannot wait for the next book, I'm so invested in all of these guys from Curio Heights ❤️

The 2nd Book in the Corio Heights series was as fun and sweet as the first. Ian and Scott have had a flirty, friendly relationship but after spending more one on one time together, they realize that there is something more between them. Both men have individual insecurities that they have to overcome, but all in all this was a light, happy low angst story. I enjoyed how Scott came to realize that he had always taken his sexuality for granted, like being straight was a factory setting and was able to realize and accept that Ian was his “person” regardless of gender. Ian learned that he actually could take a chance on love and not come out on the losing end. I can’t wait for the next release, as I am always fascinated when one character is so totally oblivious to anothers obvious feelings, Go Will!

I absolutely LOVED this sweet and beautiful story! These two amazing men absolutely stole my heart, ran away with it and are not planning on giving it back. This book is full of swoon, steamy moments and so much sweetness!! Ian and Scott had amazing off the charts chemistry! I was completely and totally hooked from the first page! I devoured this book in 1 night!! I just could not put it down once I picked it up!!! These men were so perfect together! It was such a feel good story that left me smiling the whole time I read! It takes the first step, then returning and freeing your mind. Scott suffered from body insecurity. He, identifies as straight, but he can appreciate a well made sexy male body. His closest friends were gay men who were in model hot shape. This made him more insecure although he liked his friends. He wanted to improve and asked Ian, one of the friends to work as his personal trainer. He carried a lot of assumptions about people who worked out feeding his insecurity. Ian found Scott attractive but didn't do relationships. The author did an excellent job exploring Scott's confidence growth as he works with Ian and Ian's opening his heart to new relationships. Good story. Excellent group of friends. Does Scott continue with the workouts? Will Scott open his life to a relationshp with a man? Will Ian let Scott in? Nice flow. Well done! It had its problems, but it was cute.

Terrible mechanics, weird speech patterns, inconsistencies (though there were less of them than in the previous book,) and that “the vibe is off” feeling.

But maybe the off feeling has to do with me and the plague I’m fighting, because what would typically take me a little over an hour to read took me well over a day, and my focus isn’t exactly great right now, so I’m not even going to go there.

The story was cute, the characters were sweet, and even the TAA didn’t really bring me down. I am always here for cheesy fluff and precious cinnamon roll MCs, so I am here for this. I think.

3.75/5, because editing is sexy, and a lack of it is not. I don’t know if my off feelings are from my own illness taking over my smooth brain, so do with this—admittedly—off review as you will.
