She's a living search warrant...

Wren Cooper is a white witch who lost her position in the guild because she couldn't control herself. She was born with the unique ability to fade into Shadow, cloaking herself. This was fine, except for the fact that it trained her to be a major adrenaline junkie. She'd steal, spy on others, and do all sorts of things that only a thief of high training was capable of accomplishing.

Too bad the law has a way of catching up to you.

Now, Wren has to choose between going to prison or taking a full-time gig at the Paranormal Police Department. Her job? Being a search warrant when the chief can't get a search warrant.

But when she goes on her first mission, a simple check up on whether or not a local casino is allowing normals to gamble, things turn deadly.

Wren isn't built for deadly...

If you like Jim Butcher, Domino Finn, Michael Anderle, M. D. Massey, Rick Gualtieri, Orlando A. Sanchez, K.F. Breene, Shayne Silvers, Ilona Andrews, Brad Magnarella, Patricia Briggs, or Kim Harrison...you'll love first book from the Shadow Paranormal Police Department.

A different take on the PPD expansion, as Wren is a somewhat unwilling "consultant" for the department. Using her shadow abilities to help them around bureaucratic red tape seems to be a fair trade for staying out of jail until she witnesses a crime that far outstrips the infractions she was sent to witness. Now she must use her unusual stealth, tricks, thieving contacts, and toys to fight for not only her freedom but also plain old survival. A fun, thrilling ride.

This was a simply awesome book and start of a new series. New characters are introduced to us in this first book. Wren is a white witch, but a thief of high caliber. A stepper of shadows, she can disappear and no one knows she is there. Rico is her familiar. A smart mouthed crow, he is her lookout on jobs and in her life. Lambert the Chief of the New Orleans PPD. Being caught thieving a jewel, he now has her as his "snitch" when he needs surveillance done without a search warrant. Stepping into a hornets nest the PPD and Lambert relies on Wren to run interference for them. With the help of Becky, a friend in her group of fellow thieves, Wren finds new and unique ways of disappearing and eavesdropping. The book is fast paced with humor and violence at every turn. Excellent book. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.

What could be worse than zombies?

Well you are about to find out in this latest spin-off of the Paranormal Police Department series. This time author John P. Logsdon teams up with his other half in real life, his wife Lorelei, to write this rollicking tale about a witch turned thief named Wren Cooper, who meets her match and must make a decision that will alter the course of her life permanently. Wren and her smart aleck side-kick, Rico the grumpy crow who serves as her familiar, must work together to help the New Orleans PPD investigate some shady dealings. With her crew of crazy and talented friends to help along the way, Wren discovers that old family friends are not what they appear and there are things FAR worse than zombies out there. Let's just hope her friends can lend her enough of a hand to survive her first case!

This was my first read from John Logsdon and I see that this is not the first in his Netherworld series. However this is the first with this particular lead character and I did not feel that I was missing out by not having read the others, which is always a good sign. Filled with plenty of snark, humour and general shenanigans, this was a great story and kept me entertained from start to finish. An easy read, perfect for getting me out of a reading rut. Wren is a professional thief, albeit one with a conscience. So when she gets caught and drafted into the police by a hot officer in command she fins it hard to resist, after she lives on adrenaline. And so begins the danger, maybe she has bitten off more than she can chew after all! I will definitely be looking up more written by this author and in this world.

Great Book

Awesome addition to the paranormal police department series. Wren Cooper and Chief Lambert are fun characters. I'm very curious as to what "species" Becky is and hope it's revealed soon.

Wren is a white witch who is not all sunshine and light. Wren has a bit of a Robin Hood complex going in, which works until it doesn't. She gets busted, and trade for her freedom means she becomes a living search warrant for the Paranormal Police Department.

I really like this book because Wren is a female who doesn't fall into the "Let's ignore everyones advice and do the exact opposite, then wonder why she is in the trouble she is in" trope. She is smart, the story is entertaining and leaves you with the knowledge that her adventures are just beginning. All in all, this is a great addition to the world of the PPD, and I can't wait to see what else happens.

I’ve read many books in this universe and quite enjoyed every single one. They were fun, well-written, entertaining, and great plots, and this entry is just as good. I don’t know why exactly, but this new series in the universe has been my favorite so far. Wren is an interesting character, and I found her fellow sidekicks (accomplices?) just as enjoyable, especially Becky and her Dimensional Box. I relished every single second, and I can’t wait to read more adventure with these characters. I highly recommend this action-packed adventure!

First book in a new Paranormal Police Department series. Wren Cooper is a Shadow walker, among other things. A thief who steals from the stupid privileged people, Karma against bragging. With a crow familiar, who talks to her, it makes for amusing banter. As a look out, the Crow is useless, getting Wren caught by the P.P.D. Who instead of arresting her, recruit her to work for them. A bit more tame then the usually P.P.D. books, it still provides enough action to satisfy the loyal readers. I am looking forward to reading more about Wren and her adventures in New Orleans.

This is but a simple story about a girl and her bird. Well, not simple as the girl is a white witch and the bird a raven is her wisecracking familiar.

This is the latest entry into the PPD world and well worth the read. Wren is a white witch who can hide in shadows, but her free and wild lifestyle is soon cut short by Lambert the new head of the PPD in New Orleans, who been chasing her for years. Throw in some eight-foot vampires, and thieves guild of a sort and you have a great story, cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Exciting new PPD adventure series

As a fan of the PPD series i was excited to see yet another new addition.
In this series we have a witch to add to the mix as she uses her powers to help the fight.
With the addition of such a character then this allows us to open up some exciting possibilities and damn do they work well. Without spoiling it there is some great dimensional attributes and I hope will spread to the rest of the PPD universe

I couldn't put this book down! A must read for magic lovers!

John Logsdon and Lorelei Logsdon have created a fresh, exciting, and magical addition to the Paranormal Police Department series. Wren is not your typical heroine. She overcomes obstacles with strength and unusual magic and has a snarky familiar by her side. Venom Scourge caught and held my attention through to the end. I cannot wait to dive into another adventure featuring Wren and the New Orleans PPD.

This is a great read. I enjoyed the unusual storyline that brought Wren Cooper into contact with Chief Lambert of the New Orleans Paranormal Police Department. I like that Chief Lambert appears to be a little naive at times and the dynamic this creates between his character and that of Wren Cooper. This book is full of intrigue adventure and laughs and I look forward to the next instalment of this story. Highly recommended.

Wren is a White Witch with a dark secret and her thieving ways get her into big trouble with both sides of the law. Wren is a very engaging heroine and her familiar, Rico the crow with a beady eye for the ladies is very funny. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next installment in Wren's story.

Wren

Loved it. For a thief on the right side of wrong Wren is addicted to the danger and adrenaline rush. When she gets caught by a nemesis she didn't even know she had, she's really only got one choice... going to work for the good guys should be boring, right? This book is fun and adventurous and highly entertaining. I can't wait to read more about Wren's next challenge.

White witch.

From being on the wrong side of the law to, sort of, on the right, Wren has to adjust her life though not her attitude.
She's an adrenaline junkie with a heart and full of snark, just the type of person I enjoy reading about, especially when there's danger and explosions involved.

Great first in a series book. I can’t wait for more. Wren is relatable. Tough but funny and kind. And Rico! Love that snarky bird. Really? Birds with benefits? Ha!
I can’t wait to find out more about Becky and the rest of the guild. And where are Wren and Lambert going?

More please

I definitely preferred it to the Bethany Black book, not that she isn't fun. Wren has the better dialogue and personality.

So more of this and test please, or make them longer for us quick readers. It's not usual for me to read two or three in an evening...

Great read

Took me a few chapters to really get into the book but that's more due to a book hangover. Story and characters were great and I loved the banter and sass. I really wish I had a familiar that could talk! Can't wait to read the next in the series.

This book had its good and it's bad qualities, in my opinion. Great ideas! Fantastic technology, which was really great.

Wasn't so fond of the writing style or the dialogue, which I found to be really immature, cliched and predictable. Sophomoric, actually.

Still, the ideas were so cool that I read the book basically in a day.

Great entry into the PPD series

I really like the first book in third series. Wren is a great character and Rico is a hoot. There’s just something about a snarky animal sidekick that I love. Can’t wait for the next one!
