The Sinner: A Dark College Romance Kindle Edition
An all-new dark standalone romance from the USA Today & Wall Street Journal bestselling author, Shantel Tessier
LITTLE DEMON
I was raised in a world where money and power are at your fingertips. My father is a LORD, a very respected member of a secret society that knows no bounds. When tragedy struck my family, we discovered we weren’t untouchable. Just when I thought life couldn’t get any worse, I was shown what hell is really like. Then he came and saved me. The devil disguised as my personal hero. But of course, nothing is for free. Not when a soul is up for grabs.
I VOW. YOU VOW. WE VOW.
Easton Bradley Sinnett—Sin—uses his power for his own sick pleasure. Like a typical Lord, he never thought about the consequences of his actions. I grew up with him, obsessed over him, craved him. He was who I pictured when I imagined doing things my body shouldn’t want.
One day, I realized he was not who I thought he was. It didn’t change anything, though, because I was already too far gone. If anything, I fell for him harder.
Every now and then, someone enters your life who flips it upside down. Sin wrecked me in the worst way, and I thanked him for it by serving on my knees.
As they say, nothing lasts forever. Men like him never stay with a woman like me. I’m what they use, not keep. So when he threw me away, I shouldn’t have been all that surprised.
My body had always craved the darker side of love. The kind that left bruises and scars. I was what most would call unholy. And when the devil whispered in my ear that he loved me, I was more than determined to show him just how devoted I could be.

This is the second book of the series, the first being The Ritual, and it can be read as a standalone or in order for background of characters. This one follows Sin and Ellington, but is happening alongside The Ritual, in timeframe. It has so many unexpected twists, and even involves a bit of psychology. That dedication is just *chef’s kiss*. Ryat, from The Ritual, does make a brief appearance, and talked about throughout the book here and there.
There are many surprise piercings (both on Sin and Ellington). Ellington was groomed from the age 13 on, to “serve” men a certain way. Sin is very protective, and possessive, over her due to her history and the fact he has loved her for so long.
“You’re my Heaven, I’m your Hell.” The best quote in that book that fits so perfectly.
The characters were written with an arc and they had some development throughout the book. Sin and Ellie go through so much to be together that it makes the ending that much better. Ellie is abused throughout her teenage years and suffers mentally from trauma into her college years.
The grammar is good. I noticed some spelling errors tho. The writing style is typical of Shantel’s other books.
The plot was obviously well thought out and had twists and turns throughout. As usual, there’s so much information unknown to the reader until the very end when everything comes out. It’s not as bad as Carnage where we’re left blind until the 95% mark tho. If the miscommunication trope isn’t your thing, don’t start this book. A lot of their problems could be solved by simply communicating with each other…
I usually devour her books in one day not caring if I’m a zombie for the rest of the day. I am on a full on binge. But with The Sinner I was taking my time. Not to savor, but to slowly digest it. It’s rough man. Her warning that this is her darkest book yet is 100% accurate. I called my own bluff thinking I only had one real trigger (cheating fyi) but nope. I hate stories that use grooming and SA to add more to the mix. So that’s on me. But that’s not my reason for rating this story less than four stars. The real reason? I hated pretty much everyone in this story.
I hated how almost every single “authority figure” were completely selfish, vile POSs. I hated that our h, Elli (aka little demon) was TSTL. I was so torn by my reaction to her being so dumb. I was “be easy on her. She’s just trying to cope with her pain. She’s stronger than she looks, but yeah she’s not in a good place.” But throughout the entire story she’s crying, licking her lips (lol it’s so often), and her diet basically consists of pills washed down by any type of booze on hand. When she comes to and goes ugh, what happened or where am I? I wanted to chuck my phone at the wall. Like duh girl. You are blacked out 85% of this book! I honestly didn’t care for her. Shantel made her so weak. There was one scene closer to the 70% mark where she actually made me laugh out loud and think ok she does have a spark, but it’s just a flicker. It’s when one of the many vile of POSs tells her how he’s going to torture her and she’s responds “sounds fun”. I actually cackled because she was finally done with it all. I was like finally!!!!
I also didn’t like our H, Sin (aka the devil). I had like no reaction to him whatsoever. I remember being completely gone for Ryat in The Ritual. Still am if I’m being honest. He was cold and calculating and did a better job of making sure Blakey knew what side he was on-hers, at all times. Sin kept Elli on a need to know basis. And that drove me insane!! Also for some reason this story was waaaaay more campy than The Ritual. Sin was indeed OTT possessive of Elli. But he was also OTT drama queen. Like boy tone it down a notch please. And to my complete and utter surprise (because I read these stories for the twisty plots and copious amounts of smut) I was skimming through the s e x scenes because they were so frequent and kinda all the same. I was like hmmm when do we get to the story? I wanted more story. This felt like a sequel to Sabotage and a segue into Tyson’s story and even The Spade brothers upcoming book.
Also why are there like zero bad@$$ women here?! Blakeley had the makings to be. Her bio mom was definitely a bad@$$ Queen (I still think Blakeley’s parents need their own novella), but that’s it. I’m truly hoping this new generation will produce more kick@$$ women. The second epilogue seems to be hinting at that so I’m hopeful. Also no more back from the dead characters popping back up. I was rolling my eyes so hard. I swear that if Tyson’s OG chosen comes back “to life” in his story I’m out! I’m so excited for his story and also for Carnage to come out too tho!!!!
What did I like about this book you ask? I really enjoyed that we got to see more of the other Lords in this story. We met Ryan’s friends from book one obviously but never really saw them much. Also there’s Sin’s besties too. In The Sinner we get to see them talk about their chosens. How they feel about them. It was interesting to get more info. Also this story just confirms that Tyson deserves his own story. He’s the one!!!!
Anyway read this!!! Shantel Tessier is hands down one of the best authors out there doing her thing and she’s killing it. I just truly want stronger heroines. Sorry for this long@$$ rant.
This book and series is not for the faint of heart and not entry level dark romance. so check TW’s to make sure this is the book for you.

Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is my second venture into Shantel Tessier's world, and OMG, I wasn’t expecting to love "The Sinner" this much. Before diving into this intense story, be sure to heed the significant trigger warnings, as Tessier fearlessly explores the boundaries of suspense, dark themes, and BDSM.
From the very beginning, I was gripped by the unpredictability of the narrative. Every time I thought I had it all figured out, the author skillfully threw in curve after curve of suspense, leaving me on the edge of my seat. This book made me experience a rollercoaster of emotions—anger, tears, and even moments of yelling at the characters in disbelief.
The protagonist's journey, wrapped in the complexities of the secret society and power dynamics, is both harrowing and enticing. The character of Easton Bradley Sinnett, aka Sin, adds a layer of darkness and unpredictability that keeps you hooked. As the story unfolded, I found myself obsessed with the characters, craving the forbidden, and falling deeper into the intricate web Tessier masterfully weaved.
Tessier boldly delves into the darker side of love, portraying a protagonist who embraces the unholy and craves the kind of love that leaves bruises and scars. The exploration of the BDSM elements is tastefully done, adding depth to the narrative without overshadowing the intense emotions and suspense.
Despite the challenges presented by the trigger warnings, Tessier's storytelling prowess shines through. This is undeniably an author I'll be exploring more of in the near future. "The Sinner" is a captivating journey into the abyss, a testament to Tessier's ability to craft a narrative that leaves a lasting impression. If you're looking for a book that challenges boundaries and emotions, this one is a must-read.
And boy, do I regret not picking this up sooner.
This was SO good. Sin is absolutely everything.
I absolutely adore Elli. She's amazing and even after everything she's been through she's still so strong. She's just as crazy as Sin. It makes them so perfect for each other.
And Sin? I have no words for this man, because any assumptions I had about him? Gone. Blown away. I had no idea what to expect with him, but damn.
This was so spicy, so twisted. I really, really had no idea how this was gonna turn into a happy ending. It really looked like it was impossible.
But Sin would do anything to make Elli his. Even if it means giving himself up. She'll always be it for him. Always.
