Armored Warrior Panzerter: Grim Harvest Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 54 ratings

The tide is turning, but the hardest battles are still to come.

It took over a year, but Lieutenant Colonel Paul Reiter’s Black Lion regiment has finally liberated their homes. Though they’ve returned to where they started, their war is far from over. A few miles from their hometowns, a massive line of fortifications and defenses sprawls across the border into the Union.

Reiter knows the Union won’t roll over, even after the string of recent defeats. They won’t stop until all of Mars is under their banner, to the point where they are growing even more supersoldiers to face them and pushing them into service earlier. More and more superweapons are rearing their heads.

The Union won’t surrender, not with men like Declan Kennedy leading their soldiers into battle. With everything they’ve accomplished thus far at risk, Reiter must break through the Union lines and into the Union homeland. Through mud and blood to the green fields beyond.

Armored Warrior Panzerter is a gritty, tactical literary universe. A new generation of military sci-fi/mecha fiction. If you love Galaxy’s Edge, Mobile Suit Gundam, or Battletech, you should check this out.

I love history and consider myself a French fry expert (Crinkle fries are the best, but steak fries are a close second). I live in the middle of the woods somewhere, so if you get lost you might run into me.

T R Butcher has a knack for describing combat theaters that draws a reader I to the muck, rain and tree line as if he were their feather reading a page. His dialogue is crisp and doesn't lend itself to flowery commentary or waste time with posturing for an authors personal views. He tells his story from the eyes and mouths of his characters and they sound human.
War is hel l and T R Butcher drags readers through it without compassion, making them feel the losses and weight of decisions as if they were out own burdens. He is good, damne d good.

I didn't want to say anything bad, because I like the story. It's a gritty war story with giant robots, moral ambiguity on the good guys' side, and really evil bad guys. War is a deadly grind and your favorite characters are never safe. It's pretty obviously inspired by Gundam, but that's a feature, not a bug. At least there are no angsty teenagers. There is angst, but what do you expect from soldiers who have very sincere doubts about surviving the war? Hell, even Biggles was depressed by the end of WW1. Really, it's a great story.

I didn't even bother to read the sample first for this one but bought it right away. I like the series that much.

Book 5 was a great read as the Union is finally forced to retreat as then forces of Tharis and it’s Allies advance on all fronts, but the best of the Union makes it escape to a secret base in space to rebuild.

The writing style changed a bit and my interest of the “bad guys “ was more intense than it was in the previous books. Can’t wait for the next book.

I enjoyed the story, but the editing was terrible. Many missiles words, pages missing, and incorrect words used. A good editing job would have made a good book a elegant book.
