The Wrong Rake Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 429 ratings

Harry Standish returns home from Waterloo expecting a quiet reunion with his family. Instead he finds his sister’s reputation ruined and his mother in a state. The culprit: Simon Beaumont, rake, wastrel, and co-owner of the London gaming hell Perdition.

A duel isn't an option. Given Harry's skill it would be little better than a murder. But he means to have it out with Simon and force him—somehow—to undo the damage done to his sister. When he walks through the doors of Perdition, he finds himself out of his depth, in every possible way. Simon isn’t at all what Harry expects. He’s beautiful. Charming. Sly. And, most shockingly, eager for Harry’s attention.

Simon is accustomed to every form of sophisticated debauchery—in fact, he presides over it nightly. But a rough-mannered soldier with no understanding of the rules of London society takes him off guard. Harry may not be Simon’s usual fare, but he’s irresistible.

For Harry, Simon’s his greatest enemy since Napoleon was finally sent packing. Harry’s insistent that Simon undo the damage to his sister’s life. Simon only wants to clear his own name. Until both of them realize there may be more to win, or lose, than reputation…

Just treat yourself and read this book. I'm a huge fan of Eliot Grayson, their writing always scratches an itch in my brain like how home cooking just hits the spot. It's cute, and funny, and sexy, and sweet, and well written... Whenever a new Grayson comes out I buy it and hoard it like treasure for a bad day, or week, then inhale it in two seconds flat, like a starving person with a cookie.

So, yes. Read this and treat yourself. Enjoy!

4.25 stars.

This book was so much fun, and EXACTLY the refresher I needed. What a great time, what impeccable writing, what funny dialogue and moments. I loved Harry's brute strength, I loved Simon's fashion eye, I loved any mention of Caesar and George, any mention of Jasper, I loved Harry's military history and how well that was woven into the story, I loved Simon's cleverness and humor, I just loved everything about this. Such a ball, and always a pleasure to be back at the Perdition Club 😂

The Wrong Rake is the first book I’ve read by Eliot Grayson, but it won’t be the last! Eliot has a way of engaging the reader from the first page. Visiting Perdition felt like visiting an old friend. I fell in love with Simon and Harry right from the start, well, at least as soon as they figured out the case of mistaken identity!

I appreciated that this was a low angst read. Sometimes I just want a relaxing, romantic read, and this was it. The steam and spice factor is off the charts so I recommend reading this where there’s no risk of anyone reading over your shoulder. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to Perdition!

Not what I was hoping for with the blurb, but still a okay , easy, fast read, with some naughty

Great novella of mistaken identities and quick progression from enemies to lovers. Harry thinks Simon has sullied his sister's name only to find out it was Simon's brother pretending to be him. These two work out their differences in a very physical way, and discover they actually like each other. Steamy, quick read. Definitely going to check out the other stories in this multi-author series.

Sexy gay historical romance.
The characters were good.
The sex is very erotic.
The story pretty light-on but enjoyable all the same.
The writing sets the tone for time and place very nicely.
The Wrong Rake is upbeat.
It's pretty damn hot.
Eliot Grayson never lets me down.

I loved how this story began and ended. The sheer delight when they looked at and touched one another, and the love they eventually shared. It was the perfect story and my favorite.

The heading really says it all. It’s not particularly deep, and it doesn’t want to be. It’s a fun little romp with about a quarter of it erotica which was imho the perfect amount. The two main characters had excellent chemistry and overall I will probably read this again at some point in the future.

A lovely and touching romance, two very different men meeting in difficult circumstances yet finding themselves needing each other. Well written by a great author, not much plot but it flows well with never a dull moment.

I’ve inhaled all the books in this series and this one was no exception. I loved this author’s other historical books and knew it would be a good read. The mc’s went quickly from enemies to lovers in a sexy/angsty way. And high heat. Oh my. Heart-racing. But with a good story line so it wasn’t just erotica. Quick easy read. Wish it was longer, but it didn’t feel cut-off, I just wanted more!

What a charming Regency Romp.
Eliot is a master at historical romance and it shows in this very witty story.
