A hulking shadow broke away from the surrounding darkness.

Man shaped, but far too tall, shoulders too broad, he was at my side before I had fully registered his presence.

The characters are complex and very intelligent, and imagination was vividly at work with the descriptions of the different creatures of each tribe. I like how the storylines link together as each human mate is released from their escape pods. Looking forward to the next adventure.

Talk about going through the fire, this book was pretty intense. When Hannah awakes in her escape pod she has no idea she has landed in a hellacious place with the alien version of Dr. Frankenstein lording it over all his creations. That includes Khelos, an alien splice created for destruction. Khelos saves Hannah and the two fall in love while Khelos endures daily torture in a fighting pit. There was so much going on and I didn’t see how they would ever get free. The mad scientist/future warlord was a great touch, but dang was he cruel. I loved the action and the sweet love the couple shared.

Oh how I adore this new world that Elin Wyn has created in this new installment the more silver looking Reaver discovers a human woman and together they rescue Each other from the dangers of this new and reverse world. Khelos is an Ol'lin but not. He's been augmented and is more. They call him the beast and they force him to fight in the pits. While scavenging near his rooms he came across a cylinder shaped capsule and somehow the top is ajar. As he watches the most beautiful female comes out of it. Just as she goes to make a sounds he covers her mouth and says don't let them head you. Hannah has just women up in her escape pod she doesn't know where she is or where the others are. She's scared and freaking out just as she's about to help out a hand clamps around her mouth and whispers to her. Khelos, doesn't want his leader to find her he knows that she'll never make it they abuse and hurt her. He could never live with himself that happened. When they are discovered he does his best to shield her. He fights for her and protects her. He's inexplicably seen too her . He'll do anything to make her his. Hannah doesn't understand her attraction but she can't believe how wonderful Khelos is and how no matter what he stands ready to protect and defend her. Together they forge a path to freedom. I did not understand parts of the logic or scenario of this book. It was written as a genius madman trying to perfect his warriors to go conquer the world.
Now from this many things did not make sense.
The pits. Started off as way to test his creations. But only one is many battler. If premise was correct, he should have all soliders fight to home skills.
His creations. Made no sense since all but the hero and his soldiers were controlled by him.
Lastly why didnt they overthrow him. If they let creatures out they would have had time to leave.

One of my favorite tropes--alien pit fighter and accidental human woman--done with great zest and heat. The plot was interesting and kept things moving forward, and the relationship between Khelos and Hannah was tender, romantic, and very hot. I also really enjoyed the side character, Carrick, and his deep friendship with Khelos. Too often our heroes are loners. It's nice to have one who has someone significant in their life besides the heroine.

I read this book through Kindle Unlimited.
