Blessings of Love

Rate this book
She’s going on mission to help others. He’s going to win her heart.

Skye Matthews, bright, bubbly and committed to her calling as a nurse, is the pastor’s daughter. She’s in love with Scott Anderson, the most eligible bachelor, not just at church, but in the entire town.

Scott lavishes her with flowers and jewellery and treats her like a lady, and Skye has no doubt that life with him would be amazing. And yet, sometimes, she can’t help but feel he isn't committed enough. Not to her, but to God.

She knows how important Scott's work is to him, but she has a niggling feeling that he isn’t prioritising his faith, and that concerns her. If only he’d join her on the mission trip to Burkina Faso…

Scott Anderson, a smart, handsome civil engineering graduate, has just received the promotion he’s been working for for months. At age twenty-four, he’s the youngest employee to ever hold a position of this calibre, and he’s pumped.

Scott has been dating Skye long enough to know that she’s 'the one', but just when he’s about to propose, she asks him to go on mission with her. His plans of marrying her are thrown to the wind.

Can he jeopardise his career to go somewhere he’s never heard of, to work amongst people he’d normally ignore?

If it’s the only way to get a ring on Skye’s finger, he might just risk it…

And can Skye’s faith last the distance when she’s confronted with a truth she never expected?

“Blessings of Love” is a journey of two hearts molded and shaped by the Master Potter in the most unlikeliest of places, blessed by the greatest love of all. Join Scott and Skye as they travel to the tiny country of Burkina Faso, and like them, be blessed by love.

'Blessings of Love' was a pleasant story and beautifully told. I wasn't expecting exactly what I got in this book. My overall opinion was positive at the end, so that's a win. There were a couple of places I felt the story dragged a bit, but the characters, plot, and descriptions were done well. The way the characters grew through the story was interesting and I really felt like I was there with them, feeling what they felt, and seeing what they saw. If you enjoy contemporary romance, inspirational romance, or sweet romance, you might like this one.

This is a quick, wholesome read, with some beautiful faith elements. I found the setting of the mission in Burkina Faso interesting, though I was disappointed so little of it was shown (many things were simply described as “basic,” with almost no detail provided as to what that meant, so I often couldn’t “see” the setting).

The characters are likable and I enjoyed the faith journey of the lead male character, Scott. But it reads much more like a nonfiction missionary book than a novel - very little happens “on screen.” I’ve done several stints as a missionary in a developing African nation, and most of the real-life challenges which make such stories so rich are either never shown in this book or glossed over, and Skye’s character just sort of coasts along without struggling much or really changing at all, so there’s very little tension or conflict (which is great in real life, but doesn’t make for the most compelling fiction), and what does happen is resolved too easily.

Most of the narrative is internal thoughts and feelings, much of it repetitive. The ending sequence after they return home also seemed tacked on, as if added later to make the story longer. There’s a random accident that has no consequences at all, which made me feel a bit tricked.

But the faith journey is super encouraging, though heavy handed, bordering on preachiness. That didn’t bother me much, but I know it really bothers some readers. I’d have really appreciated this book if it was a nonfiction account, but as fiction it was just ok. Worth reading for the encouraging faith elements, but not very compelling story-wise. Readers who like sweet, inspirational romances might enjoy this one.

It's a romance that starts off with a very tough question: would you give up everything for the person that you love?

Liked: The African setting was a different experience. I loved learning a little bit more about the Burkina Faso people. Scott's transformation in Burkina Faso was interesting to watch as well. Lastly, I love the idea of a couple testing their relationship before marriage. In order to have a strong marriage, a couple should know how each other handles conflict and stress. Lastly, I liked watching how everything happened for a reason. Without giving anything away plot wise, God has plans for us which may not be apparent at first, but watching His plans unfold perfectly for Skye & Scott are pretty amazing.

Disliked: Honestly, I didn't like the fact that Skye placed her boyfriend between a rock and a hard place very quickly. I don't know much about mission trips but dropping everything to leave to a foreign country for three months sounds incredibly tough. Realistically, how does one pay the bills for three months without a paycheck coming in? Lastly, for a Christian book, it is very very very preachy. Most of the Christian books that I've read so far have Christian values and some verses, which I like. This book however feels more like a homily or sermon than anything else. It might be great for others, but it was a little too much for me.

All in all, it's a very short (152 pages), and light, beachy read. It has a sweet, clean romance and shows that God has plans for all of us, even if we can't see it yet.

An interesting, unpredictable, clean romance which not only glorifies God with good sound morals and realistic imperfect characters, but it takes us on a bit of a cultural tour to a foreign mission field in Africa, specifically Burkino Faso. We get to praise with the local people in their worship, smile with them in their joys and mourn with them in their sorrows. The main characters, Skye and Scott, experience many of the uncertainties that dating couples also often experience, and all while they are trying to find God's will for their lives. The story will keep you interested all the way, and get your heart racing every now and then too. You will not want to put it down.

I read an ARC copy of this book and am happy to be one of the first reviewers.

Well done, Juliette Duncan.

Scott, reflects as to his good fortune, looks, the youngest to get a promotion at his job, and dating the pastors daughter. Perfect time to purpose, this should take her mind off of the mission trip.
Skye feels blessed to be dating Scott, he handsome, ambitious and a Christian. She had news for him, but how would he take it. Three months In Africa, would he go with her.
When she talked about her faith, made him realize there was a lot he didn’t know about her. He had a choice of girlfriends should he let her go.
How far would one go and step out in faith, is what this story is about.
For Scott he would be jeopardizing a job, he has worked for to go.
A nice story dealing with ones faith and the commitment to walk in it.

Clay in the Potter's hands

Scott Anderson grew up in the home of a bitter man. He could never seen to live up to his father's expectations evan though he excelled at everything he put his mind to do. His girlfriend Skye grew up as a beloved daughter in a pastor's home.

When Skye invites him to be a part of a mission team to an obscure country in western Africa, Scott is torn between his prestigious job and pleasing Skye. He did become part of the team and placed himself right into the Master Potter's hands. As God molds him, his whole outlook changes and brings him into a place he never would have believed he'd be.

This is a wonderful story of God's transforming love. You won't want to miss reading it!

This is a beautiful story of what happens when a person fully comprehends the depth of the Love of God for him. This story made me feel like I was right there with Scott and Skye with their spiritual struggles to understand their purpose that God had for them. This story definitely pulled on my heartstrings and made me evaluate my commitment to God. I believe that if you get a copy of this book, it will bless you and give you much to ponder and think about. I recommend reading this wonderful story. I received a complimentary copy of this book, but have willingly chosen to give my honest opinion of the story.

I loved this book. It's about Scott and Skye. They're a couple who go on a three month mission trip to Burkina Faso. He's a driven professional who's constantly seeking more and goes only because he fears losing Skye. She's s nursing student who is excited about the adventure and thrilled Scott will share it with her. This book shows how God molds us and changes our hearts, minds and intents to match His own. Come on this life changing adventure with Scott and Skye. It's well worth the read.
I was graciously given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

An inspiring Christian story

I always feel closer to God when I read stories by Juliette Duncan, and this story was no exception. It's hard for me to comprehend the need and poverty Skye, Scott and the rest of the mission team encountered during their trip. This story made me wish I were (much) younger and in better health so I could experience a trip like this... but since I can't do it in person I'm glad I was able to read this book. I look forward to reading the rest of the Potter's House series.

God is the Master Potter

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book! Blessings of Love is the first book in the Potter’s House series that I have read. I am definitely going back to the beginning of the series and reading The Homecoming, also by this author. The characters were relatable, the story realistic and the struggles real. I enjoyed seeing how God molded Scott’s and Skye’s lives individually and as a couple! I was engrossed from beginning to end. Blessings of Love is an entertaining book. I highly recommend reading Blessings of Love!

I really liked this story. The ages of the main characters and the way it all took place on the mission field. I loved the way that sustainability and the way a mission trip is for the participants more than the people you go to serve. I think there are great nuggets of truth in here that anyone thinking of doing short term missions would benefit from (speaking of short term missions, I am absolutely thrilled that Duncan used a 3 month trip rather than a shorter one).

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I like the fact that was shown in this book that no matter what happens GOD loves us & willingly transforms us into new creations that He can use to reach out to reach the unfortunate. I like how this book emphasized the relationship & will of our creator can be such a blessing in our lives. I like how Scott & Skye yielded to GOD's will for them. I liked that GOD knows us inside & out & has great plans for our lives!

Blessings of Love is a well-written, faith-filled book. I loved seeing how God used missions work to change and mature the characters and how Scott and Skye's romance developed. The tidbits of the sermons that were in the book as well as the exuberant worship challenged me. The plot has twists and turns and moves along at a good pace. The settings are Australia and Burkina Faso. I received an ARC. I chose to write a review and share my opinion of this excellent book.

Juliette's books have a way of showing God working in human lives in realistic situations I am able to relate to. This story follows Skye and Scott as they figure out their personal relationship and their relationship with the Lord while serving on a 3 months long missions trip to a third world country. I enjoyed this book very much and although I received an ARC of the book, it in no way influenced my opinion and review.

I was given an ARC of Blessings of love by the author, but am freely giving my review.

Blessings of love was a great story of how God can work in the hearts of man. Also about the hardness of mission life, the hardness of the lives of other countries. The journey of Scott and Skye. They were like many couples at different places in their walk with the Lord. Their journey of spiritual growth also strengthened their love for each other.

Skye and Scott are a amazing couple. When Skye asked Scott to go to Teganega with her his life will change. Watching these two change because of this mission trip is truly remarkable. You will feel God working throughout this wonderful book. I had the honor to review this book for the author for a honest review. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could. I couldn’t stop reading this book.

Blessings of Love

A young couple in love, go on a mission trip to Africa. Will it deepen or widen their thoughts for one another. Away from all the affluence of their lives in Australia, we get the chance to see God working in their lives and bring changes to their lives and priorities. The author does a masterful job of revealing her characters while using God in their lives.

I loved the characters in this story. Scott Anderson has it all. Good looks, fancy car, beautiful girlfriend, and a fantastic promotion at work but he lacked a belief in God and God's plan for him. It was so much fun to watch him change and grow while he was doing mission work in Africa. His eyes were finally opened to the truth of the gospel message. What an inspiring story about mission work. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

Scott had worked hard to be,successful and prove to his father wrong. He was ready to propose to skye. Skye was determined to go on this mission trip and wanted Scott to go also. Craig their pastor was able to reach Scott's skepticism and he let the Lord into his heart and he decided to go.on the Mission trip also. Things that took place there changed his outlook completely . A touching Christian love story

A love story between Skye Matthews and Scott Anderson whose love is tested when they go on a mission trip to a foreign country. Skye's faith is stronger than Scott's and she is also tested when a typhoid outbreak comes to the small town where they are working. The author shows the growth of Scott's faith, while including scriptures and Christian songs. I highly recommend this book and want to read more in the Potter House books.

A story that touched my heart with how God works in our lives when we open our hearts! A wonderful, everyday couple falling in love who go on a mission and discover God as their center and a deeper love! During this season of giving and over giving, a reminder that true happiness comes from the simplest of things.

I really enjoyed this book! She really wants to go to Africa to help build homes for people and he just mainly goes because she wants to. The Lord works on his heart and he gets enthused about helping. They both learn a lot about themselves and each other. I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily writing a review on this book so others may know what I think about the book!

An amazing story of a young couple who are at different stages of faith. Their journey in discovering how important it is that they are on the same page concerning faith, commitment, finances and love for others. I truly enjoyed this story, even the parts that made me cry. (I received an advance copy of this book for review. The opinions in this review are completely my own.)

I was given the opportunity to receive an advance copy of Blessings of Love. Juliette Duncan has a knack for writing a Christian romance that captures your heart to the point you feel you know the characters and you grow spiritually along side them. I especially enjoyed this book as it delved into the workings of missionary work in an under developed country. I highly recommend it!

This story tells of a couple who are in love but don't have the same commitment to God. When they go on a mission trip they go with different motives. However once they are there they discover things in their own lives that make them reconsider how they feel about themselves and their life choices.

I received a complimentary copy of this story and chose to give an honest review.

Blessings of Love is an amazing book you will not want to put down. It is a story of how God has such a special plan for our lives. He showed Skye and Scott the perfect plan for their lives once they put their eyes on Him. This is a lovely story that will keep you reading. It is another wonderful read by Juliette Duncan.

I thought this was a very good book. Skye and Scott was going on this mission trip for 2 different reasons, but it ended up good for both of them. Scott saw a different world out there instead of what he was use to. Skye ened up being helpful in a way that was rewarding to her. They got close and ended up together. Another story of God being in it. I would recommend this book.
