Corin and the Courtier (Beautiful Beasts Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 810 ratings

Most people run from beasts, not to them…

Aster didn’t put much thought into his escape. All he knew when he ran up that mountain—straight into the lair of a grumpy dragon knight with a huge grudge against his family—was that he couldn’t submit to an arranged marriage. It never occurred to him that a snowstorm would strand him there. Or that he’d give in to years of longing and beg for the monster’s forbidden touch. But it happened. All of it…

Corin wasn’t trying to be a hero—especially not Aster’s hero. He couldn’t very well let him die, though. So he protected him. Which
might have been considered noble…if he hadn’t also fallen into bed with him. Over and over again. But the cost of keeping Aster is far more than Corin’s willing to pay. Corin will eventually be forced to let him go—even if it destroys him.

When Aster’s problems follow him up the mountain—literally—he realizes running is no longer an option. The only question now is whether Corin will fight for him, or burn their potential happily ever after to the ground…

This spicy, steamy, M/M paranormal fantasy romance features a pair of star-crossed opposites, a little forced proximity (with only one bed), some silliness involving a lack of pants at unexpected moments, and plenty of dirty talk.

This series does not contain mpreg. There’s a brief occurrence of self-destructive ideation in this book, but no action is taken. HEA guaranteed!

Knights, dragons, and spice - oh my!

Knights, dragons, and spice - oh my!
A dragon shifter (Corin) and his ex-fiancée’s younger brother (Aster) get trapped in a drafty fort together during a snowstorm. There’s only one bed and one easy way to stay warm…Featuring: fun dragon shifter anatomy, 💥 you unconscious and then 💥 you awake, a little belly bulge, a fire-breathing climax, duels, accidental nudity, and more!I enjoyed the heck out of this! It’s funny, super spicy, and I loved the protective feelings that grew as the guys got to know each other better. They both just longed for that one person who was going to be devoted and loyal to only them and their chemistry was undeniable! It can easily be read on its own and I hope that the next book features a certain warrior and his bard. 😍👌🏻

I liked this book, which is a relief. I’ve bought and read books from this author before, mainly her “mismatched series” love me some werewolf action and mating bites. This one had a vastly feel and taste, but still kept that cozy “misty-blue” feeling I got from the very first book of hers that I read “Alpha’s warlock.’ And I really like it, its a cozy cottage warm feeling, and it just feels like a home in different world. This book in particular was more medieval themed, which I also really adore! Swords, fantasy, AND dragons?! Sign me up, I bought both books. Tho I could do without the obviously scrawny and weak by comparison male partner to the more dominant male partner, I didn’t hate it. I’d really like to see 2 equally dominant male partners pair up and battle for dominance and argue about who’s on the receiving end of things in bedroom, on romp by romp basis, making them argue and fight each time they wanted sex. But that’s just my depraved wishful thinking. I really liked how the dragon was described in human form, not fully human, with the scale texture under his skin, and skin tinted in the color of the scales. A very interesting and unique take on it, and the way he smelled. I had assumed there would be a smoky influence, given the fire breathing aspect, but the hint of spice was a nice touch. Also when describing the dragons “spend” with the smoky sugar taste. I pictured the way fire roasted marshmallows taste when you burn them black and partake of their gooeyness. I’m hoping the second book is just as good or better, with more “spend” references

This was a fun little read, full of debauchery for certain, a tiny bit of angst and some cuteness. I could wish the sister got a bit of comeuppance, but it didn’t hurt the story at all as is. Grayson offers plenty of character detail to insure we are rooting for the couple, and enough world building to make it all credible. I look forward to the next installment

I'm a huge fan of Deven and the Dragon by Eliot Grayson—it’s the first book I read that seemed like a real romance novel (with the story centered on a romance) while also being set in a non-violent, non-traumatizing fantasy world. Deven and Fiora (a dragon shifter, who’s awkward and has a perpetual head cold) are adorable.

So I had expectations when I learned of a second book in the series, Corin and the Courtier. I did like this book, but the characters and the plot are so different and less my cup of tea. Most of the plot is the two characters in a castle either trying to resist having sex or having sex. (They have some shared history that causes Corin to question his motives and resist. For a while…) The sex is more aggressive with lots of “You are mine” type language. But it’s a good read if you’re into that.

I’m pickled with joy, with love, with adoration over Corin and Aster!! I love the humor, the snark, the boiling hot chemistry, the dragons, the courtly mess they find themselves in, the dragons, the action, there is absolutely nothing I didn’t love about this book, except that it’s over.

“No other man had ever made him feel like this. It had to be magic, didn’t it?” I’ll tell you what’s magic, the connection between Aster and Corin. The history, the forced proximity, mmmm, yes, that, the passion, the dragonness of it all. I adore this world, the writing and this author. It’s fantastic fun and an adventure I’d love to read again and again.

It was a good read but I wish there was more dialogue between Corin and Aster most of the book took place in their minds. But they were a perfect fit and the story ended perfectly.

This is a book is the second in a series but can be read as a standalone, also this author is a new to me author.

Corin and Aster have a complicated history with one another. Corin is a shape shifting dragon hiding from the world in solo tower after his now ex-fiancé is caught with another man. That ex happens to be Aster’s sister, Belinda. Aster is running from his own devastating fiancé and lands himself right into Corin’s arms. This begins our story of Corin and Aster…

I enjoyed the Corin and Aster backstory, they had a deep connection that time and effort to work on. At times it was as if you were through into the middle of a fight, but I liked it with them because it wasn’t an uncommon feeling. It was more of a how do we deal with this feeling. You quickly find out that Aster has some deep feelings for Corin for a while which draw you into their history, since Corin needs to work past his feelings of Belinda (aka the complications lol)! Aster is extremely young compared to Corin’s ancient dragon age.

The guys must figure out what they truly want from each other when the king of the kingdom puts forth a problem for Aster’s planned escape from the kingdom. Corin can either save the day or not. He’s a good dragon, a bit grouchy in his old dragon age. But one thing is for sure, his human did belong to just anyone. *wink wink*

And lastly, I adored the bits of comedy thrown into the mix throughout, you can’t help but crack up throughout the serious bits and the spicy (extremely spicy) bits of the book.

Here’s a non-spoiler funny exchange:

“I never,” Fredmund gasped. “You—sir, I think you mock me!”
“Not yet, but I’m willing. If you want to fight after all, I’d be happy to offer my honest opinions on your swordplay until I get bored and skewer you. That ought to take at least a minute, possibly two.” - page 160, chapter 15

Overall, 3.5-4/5, I would definitely read this author again and I could continued this series if there is more to come. The writing was well done. Once you reached that hooked moment, it was hard to put down; for me it was about 25% into the book. I recommend.

I loved this book. The characters were especially lovely with quirky personalities and so fun together. Of course the great steam scenes were oh so hot, with fabulous dragon size parts involved.
Definitely worth a read and on the lighter side of Angst. Another MM hit for Eliot Grayson's collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterclass in Dragon shifter romance

Ugh this was so damn good. Corin the Dragon was the toppiest of tops and Aster delightfully wide eyed and pure of thought.

Not many authors can write such delightful alpha (though this book does not use Alpha/ Omega tropes) energy and not have it look like pointless posturing. Corin is incredibly dominant and takes no nonsense from Aster who washes up on his front gate. But he's never an idiot with it. I just know I'll have this on repeat reads.

There was lots of humour and delightful detail. I especially enjoyed meeting his hoard.

It's quite a few years since Devon and the Dragon came out so I did go back and reread it to set the scene for this one but they really are tenuously linked and actually feel like different historical periods. They are both delightful in different ways with two quite different plots and relationships.

I really liked this story though there are some loose ends I wish had gotten tied up.

Like did the king really think Marellus' terms were ok?

Also I need a whole book of angry married couple Sig and Jules.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good second in the series

This book is a bit darker in tone than the first, considering what went on in the past with Aster’s sister. There’s a lot of internal angst moments and a WHOLE lot of steam, and on the whole I enjoyed it. I did find that a lot of the emotional stuff happened in each character’s internal monologue, rather than through communication between them, and that’s not really my personal preference, but it’s a fun read.

I would have liked the ending to be developed a bit more, and honestly, I wanted to see Belinda get the slap in the face she so richly deserved. Not my favourite of Eliot Grayson’s books, but I think smut fans will absolutely love it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but could have been better

Even after reading the synopsis, i had no idea what to expect when it came to this book. It was a short, fluffy book. Not cutesy and not a deep love story, just sex and a romance with a very small amount of angst. Obviously, it's a shifter novel with a dragon who is more of a dragon than newer dragons...that was not explained fully, just repeated a number of times, but I have no idea what it meant.

The ending fell flat for me. The father, the Bethoved, and Belinda were all there, but nothing happened.
