Two Thousand Tears (Kings of Chaos Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 353 ratings

He was supposed to be my enemy. Not my lover.

Yichen is free at last…sort of.

He has escaped his imprisonment, but he’s still blood bound to the crown prince of the fae.

Oh gods, how is he going to explain that to his clan?

Finding a way to break the bond might not be too hard. Killing the king of the fae even seems possible.

But there’s no way he can let go of the elf who protected him, risked everything for him for a hundred years?

Rei is the breath in his lungs, the blood in his veins, and the beat of his heart. Somehow, he has to find a way to keep him.

An elf can fall in love with a vampire, right?

Two Thousand Tears is the second novel in the Kings of Chaos series, which is a spin-off from the Lords of Discord series. This book contains a somewhat broken vampire falling in love with an elf who should be his enemy but is actually his everything, shifters, meddling witches, other non-human surprises, snark, angst, car surfing, found family, brotherly bickering, magic, chaos, pouting, vampire cuddles, and an endless love that crosses lines drawn by war.

Rating: 5🌈

This is exactly the type of story and series I emotionally want as a reader. I absolutely wallow in it, appreciating what Jocelynn Drake is accomplishing narratively, while also still being totally immersed in the universe and the characters storylines as they are unfolding.

If I adored the first book, Two Thousand Dreams, then my deep love for this novel is for all the beautiful creativity and passion that Drake pours into this second story.

None of these are standalone novels, but intricate layered parts of an epic that’s yet to reach its climax. It’s pulling together characters from other series that form important political and mystical factions, while simultaneously creating new characters and expanding the existing world in ways we hadn’t anticipated.

It’s ancient China, the Fae, the current human world imperiled, witchcraft, necromancy, vampires and their mates . Even the Underworld and demons play an important role here. There’s skeletons on the march with varying eras making retain a piece of their long gone personality. Such an amazing foundation for the main storylines to be threaded into.

After Blood Witch Moon Mullins and 2000 year old Chinese vampire Chen and the rest of their clan of ancient Chinese vampires found the Gate the Fae were arriving through, they arrived early to rescue their family member, Yichen, who had been kidnapped 100 years earlier and disappeared into the Fae realm.

Here Yichen reappears with the Fae Prince Rei, in tow. Their 100 year old relationship clearly has been one of pain, trauma, and more brought on by the Fae King and Queen . What they’ve done and gone through is never explicitly stated but implied. But as they work together to keep themselves safe, understanding the new implications of their status, it’s the emotional state of their shaky bond that affects them and their family the most.

Imprisonment doesn’t allow for any thought beyond that of escaping. Then it’s one more goal. But Drake starts to allow the reality of their new safety to let other possibilities open up for them. It’s a story that pulls the reader into their dynamic and won’t turn us loose. Not even at the end.

Additionally, into this found family are so many fantastic characters. A Huli and its attachment to a member of the family. The other members that are extraordinary in their powers and personality.

Including the one that is the heart of the next book and the dramatic ending here. For while they have been successful in achieving their goals at the end another shattering climax awaits them .

I will undoubtedly read this again before the next book arrives. Just for the sheer pleasure and satisfaction I received from the author’s words.

I’m highly recommending this series and novels . Pls read them in the order they are written.

I absolutely loved this second book in this series, which is a spin off from the Lords of Discord series and as such has appearances by our friends the Variks as well as our favorite witch coven members.

Book one introduces the Chines vampire clan who had come to Connecticut in order to save their kidnapped clan mate once the door to the fae realm opened as it does every 100 years. Yichen has now been rescued but he is blood bonded to his elf protector. Rae, the elf crown prince needs to kill his father the king and mother the queen in order to protect the human realm and get all the fae back through the door and into their own realm. He is completely in love with Yichen it he knows there is no way they can ever be together.

This is an enemies to allies to friends to lovers story between a vampire and an elf. It’s also a found family story. The trajectory of this slow burn relationship is heartwrenching. But it’s also sweet and inspiring. I was completely sucked in and read the whole thing in one sitting (and am now writing this at 4:40 am!)

A shocking turn of events gives us a sneak peek of book three. The overarching story continues as in this book, like in book one, part of the problem is resolved but there’s still more to come. You really need to read these books in order.

Ok so all Yichen and Rei have to do is break their blood bond, defeat Rei’s evil parents, push the fae back into their lands, close the door, oh and also figure out their relationship. No big deal, right?

Book 2 was definitely more plot-heavy than book 1. There was lots and lots of drama and twists and turns and alliances and much political drama, but also some super cute sweet moments with their clan!

This was *definitely* a very very slow burn, but there was plenty of other action to fill in that slow pace. But the last 25% holy moly. So much condensed into so few chapters. And that last chapter!? I am SO EXCITED for this next story!

📚 I am now ready for Book 3 of the KINGS OF CHAOS series.
✍🏼 JOCELYNN Drake is a gifted writer. In addition to developing wonderful storylines that are interesting & intriguing, she is able to create characters that readers want to connect with.
😀 I recommend this book (& series) to readers who want to spend time enjoying their time reading.

This is another fun and very entertaining book from this author. Exciting, sweet, steamy, lots of family bickering, and snark. There was a kind of forbidden love thing going on at first that I was worried would be drawn out too long, but the story unfolded in a very satisfying way.

Elven prince falls for vampire prince of Chinese origin, what could be more natural? Warring factions of fae competing for mayhem and power. A fun chapter in the lives of very old folks.

I purchased Book 2 thinking it would be the conclusion of the story begun in Book 1. No, no, no! Now I discover there is a Book 3! I will have to wait until that book is published to HOPEFULLY discover the conclusion to this saga. I will admit that I have enjoyed reading both books in the series, so far. They contain great characters involved in interesting storylines. There are a few hiccups with writing technicalities, but overall a well written story. I didn't want it to end - yet! There are still so many unfinished plotlines!

Yichen and Rei have escaped from the Fae and are with his clan. Will his clan accept Rei since he is Fae, and he saved Yichen when tortured. They are now blood bound, and must find a way to break the bond. Just stop the Fae from taking over the human world. Awesome read, characters are outstanding and fun.

Great second book in this series.

Wu Yichen and Rei were such lovely characters. The way they care so much about keeping each other safe is swoony. That they have basically been together (when imprisoned) for DECADES and neither has made a move seemed a tad out of character though.

There's a lot of prior characters from the Lords of Discord and Masters of Mayhem series popping up, which I loved.

Can't wait for book 3!
