Playboy Police Chief Ian Dex didn't believe in zombies...until now.
An old necromancer has been summoning the dead. His goal is to overrun the world, one city at a time. Too bad he started in Vegas.
With the horde of zombies heading in from the old cemeteries, Ian and his crew soon realize they can't handle this threat alone. They need the help of the Vegas community. The problem is how to convince the people to shoot at zombies while not letting them know they're actually shooting zombies!
To make matters worse, the Directors want the job done, his mages are being drained, and there's a succubus who's dying to play a game of no-no with him.
Okay, maybe that last bit isn't so bad.
But battling zombies begs the question: How exactly do you kill someone who's already dead?
If you like Jim Butcher, Michael Anderle, K.F. Breene, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, or Steve McHugh...you'll have a blast with this book in the Las Vegas Paranormal Police Department.
John P. Logsdon is a former game designer, producer, and software engineer who shamelessly digs into the deep recesses of his mind to bring forth oddball characters and hilarious plots. He writes primarily in fantasy, urban fantasy, and science fiction, but he's also dabbled in cozy mystery from time to time. To see John's vast library of laughs, visit www.johnplogsdon.com.
The women are great, the main storyline is fun, but the main character I find to be pretentious, egotistical, and over invested in the contents of his designer slacks. I will return to other of the writer's storylines, but not this one. The firqst book should have warned mre, but i was looking for character development in this one that wasn't there.
This fantastically funny new urban fantasy series about Ian Dex and his team in the Las Vegas Paranormal Police Department started with The Merging and is even better in Grave Creatures. The humour is there from the start, with Las Vegas being a great backdrop for it all and the team are all the better for being fun, sarcastic and neither perfect nor pc. There is a great mixture of action and storyline in this addictive series which kept me wanting to read more even though I knew I had to get up early for work in the morning?! I am enjoying seeing a great new series developing and absolutely cannot wait to read more!
Another fantastic tale of supernatural cops in Vegas, this time trying to cover up a zombie invasion. Super horndog Dex is the target as usual but his team of mages, wizards, vampires, werewolves, pixies and werebears, not to mention the flirtatious automated central control, save the day again. Funny, smutty but not outright rude, a great read!
This series is full of humor and action. I read the first one because of a reference in another series and oddly enough that series was given a shout out in this book! I look forward to seeing where it goes and learning more about Ian.
Short, irreverent, and unconventional, these stories are little gems of enjoyment that can turn a few hours into a bout of random cackling. Delightful.
Kindle Unlimited {all of his seem to be, except for any prequels those are probably permafree on his website, and you can also get for full {length} 'sampler' free from his website, a 3 pack, some with free audio, to give you a good look, and have listed all the books/sets/collections below, usually don't, it's getting almost longer than the book{s} BUT if you want the insanity to continue, there's the list. {Terry} Pratchett meets {Douglas} Adams meets Monty Python meets Red Dwarf meets Star Trek meets Doctor Who meets Twilight Zone/Outer Limits/Night Gallery. necromancers and zombies and werebears oh my
Ever have one of those nights where some old fart of a necromancer decides to unleash a zombie army on your town? Oh yeah, and you get stuck with having to stop him? That's the kind of night Ian Dex is having. Cemeteries are coming undone and the crew of the Las Vegas Paranormal Police Department has to figure out who the hell is causing it. Fast. Unfortunately, the necromancer who is responsible keeps slipping through their fingers. Even more fun is that every time the guy brings up a fresh batch of zombies, they're altered in a fashion to improve their chances at defeating the PPD. This means he's learning with each new release of his reanimated corpses. On top of that, it turns out that he's been building a massive army of zombies via graves way out in the desert. With the sheer number of zombies headed their way, Ian and his crew understand they're going to need help. But involving normals is not exactly something the PPD gets all warm and fuzzy about. So they need to figure out a sneaky way to get it done. The only silver lining that Ian can find in this mess is when a succubus breaks into his condo and does her best to seduce him.

It seems Dex and his team are in for another round of supernatural battles. This time it seems even the dead are joining in as zombies attempt to take over the strip. Yes they exist and these are super zombies not the normal ones we all know. It will take all of the teams skill, intelligence and brawn to get through this with many a witty quip and maybe a helping hand from an unexpected source. John and Chris show us again that when the going gets tough we just enjoy it more and more. A throughly fun and exciting story which you just can't put down. Can't wait to see Book 3 and find out even more about Dex and his teams adventures.
This is the second book in the series and just as good as the first one. Ian Dex is something else, and not just an amagamite, well, maybe he likes the ladies too much and the rest of the people work with the PPD know and tease him about it. This time around we are dealing with a necromancer. Who had a great many tricks up his sleeves, along with a zombie army, that only paintball guns can deal with. The book is not a cliffhanger, but as Gabe tells him in the end, "time " is not on his side, just like "flashes" was a clue to this story. All in a great mix of humor and fantasy, hope there will be more books in this series.
Second book in a new urban fantasy series that hits the strip running and barely slows down to take a breath. Fast paced and hilarious action with a few twist and turns. Ian Dex's naughtiness proves a man wrote it, with a man's brand of raunchy good humour that even a woman can laugh about. This time our intrepid Paranormal Police have to take on an evil Wizard creating zombies, and changing things up each time so they are harder to kill. How will our naughty heroes prevail? Read it and see, and laugh. 😉
Another hilarious romp! Vegas is threatened by zombie hordes, necromancy, and a level of magical chicanery the LVPPD is ill-equipped to handle. When does that get not fun? While trying to combat the machinations of the miscreant in charge, they repeatedly find themselves in grave danger (I'm sorry...I had to). We get slight glimpses and hints of the overarching story line for the series, but really cannot nail anything down beyond Ian Dex will be involved, and it will be chaos. Definitely enjoying this series.
This second book of the series is just as great as the first. The dead are coming undone OH My! Zombies as The crew of the LV-PPD has to figure out who's causing this latest disaster. The gang have their hands full trying to convince the "Normals" that what they are seeing is just another Las Vegas hotel showing off. Ian might find the help the team needs to end the Zombie's terror, a succubus breaks into his condo, does her best to seduce him.
I an is about for a woman as chocolates. But I'm not about to swear off the sweets anytime soon. Ian is sure that at least one thing that's supposed to go bump in the night doesn't exist ,zombies, so when he's called by the department CI to handle the zombies climbing up out of town the town cemetery he thinks it's his team mocking him. That is until the mess up his expensive shoes.
This is the second in John P. Logsdon and Christopher Young's new urban fantasy series and I enjoyed it every bit as much as the first, The Merging. This time a plague of zombies in Las Vegas and a nasty necromancer challenge Ian Dex and his team of very special cops to the utmost, with plenty of humour to lighten the suspense. Can't wait for Number 3 now!
I really like Ian Dex and his crew! The humour and comraderie while fighting and protecting the "normals" from supernatural threats makes this a fun read despite the serious bad guys and nefarious deeds being done! I really liked how Cletus and Merle were introduced and written in. I kind of hope to see more of them too..
If possible, I liked this book even more than the first one in the series. In this one the team encounters zombies with powers they shouldn't have, and a seemingly impossible to defeat mage ready to take over the city using the dead as foot soldiers! This series as action, suspense, mystery and great characters! I can hardly wait for more!!
I love the diversified characters from wizards to succubus to necromancers to Ian Dex. This story gets better as it processes. Ian is still my favorite character but I love the hippie wizard too. I recommend reading n order but technically you can read each one separate. They are a great set so far and I hope for more
This is the second installment. The MC is a blend of good looking, confident, sexy and wealthy male with a taste for luxury but I can't say he's refined. There is a good blend of every paranormal and they're all engaged in consensual sex. Not sure where this story is going but I 'll. stay on the ride for now.
When Ian Dex gets a call about Zombies he thinks his team is playing at prank but nope, that’s not the case. Cue all the graveyard humour from the sarcastic leader of the PPD. My favourite being ‘When it come to cemetery’s I guess people were just dying to get in there’ 😂 I love the nick names Ian Dex gives the bad guys, in this book it’s ‘s#it face Fred’ the necromancer.
