Mending Hearts with the Billionaire

Rate this book
Candace’s ten-year plan has two flaws, year eleven and Colin.
Everyone who meets Candace wearing one of her colorful wigs knows she is a cancer survivor. Determined to live life to the fullest, her accomplishments range from painting murals to convincing students on campus to give up drinking. Few people know the secret to her success includes a detailed ten-year plan and a bucket list full of check marks. Candace never dreamed she’d make it to year eleven.
Computer expert Colin Ogilvie can navigate the most difficult codes. While his friends were chasing girls, he was hacking past firewalls and developing billion-dollar apps. He never felt he was missing out until he met Candace. After five hundred and twelve days in the friend zone, he wonders if he can ever crack the code to the wall protecting her heart. What science can’t solve, art can. Their relationship changes when a meddling friend commissions Candace to help restore an antique merry-go-round.
As Candace brings new life to the old merry-go-round, she discovers her own life can have a different path than she planned. But is she brave enough to not only reveal her biggest secrets to Colin but brave a chance on her own happily ever after?

I'm going to be honest here. Not that I wouldn't be with or without saying that I'm going to be honest. When I saw the cover for this book I wasn't sure if I liked the model who was portraying Colin. Now, I've been reading this series from book one and Colin (who is the main hero in this book) has been in the series from the beginning. So I kind of have an idea in my mind of who he is. I hadn't quite given him a face though. But when I saw this cover, I wasn't sure if he matched up with the Colin of my mind.

Well, another moment of being honest...this cover is perfect. After reading this book and having a full story of Colin and Candace, not just little glimpses and mentions of Colin, he truly came alive in my mind. And this cover is DEFINITELY Colin! Who else out there felt the same way when they saw the cover, especially those who have been reading this series?

It's a good thing that the author picks her covers because she knew who Colin was. I just needed to be patient and trust. If you haven't read this book or series, this is Colin! Great and unassuming, flying under the radar but amazing beyond all expectations.

This book was so exciting to get to in the series. But very sad as well. I don't want this series to end. But I've wanted to read Candace's story from the very beginning. Every time a new book was announced I was hoping it was Candace's. But again, the author knows better than I do. Candace's story needed time to build throughout the book. Hers was the perfect final love story to end this series with. The one who, so to speak, held all the other roommates together. I love Candace. I knew her story was going to be touching and that it would only be a special man who could care for her. I was right. Well, with my thoughts and guesses and predictions of course.

I'm not going to spoil anything about Candace's story. That's a journey for you to take with her throughout this series. I will say that I cried a little. The emotions were beautiful and sad, but perfect. That might be confusing, but it's the best way that I can describe it right now. Candace is amazing. The time spent waiting for her story was worth it, it was way beyond my expectations. To Lorin Grace, your writing and powering through the harder moments and writer's block of this book turned out to be amazing. Thank you for sharing your beautiful stories with us readers! As much as I will miss more in this series (I will be rereading it), I look forward to seeing what you have in store for us. And I'm pretty sure it involves some siblings this time, brothers to be exact...fingers crossed...pretty please!

Let me know what your favorite book of this series is, if you've read it. If you haven't read it then let me know what you think of the books/series as you start reading it (hint, hint to read it). I love connecting with other readers who love the same stories as me (or who are reading/read the same stories).

Mandy, Tessa, Araceli, Abbie, Zoe, Candace...Daniel, Sean, Kyle, Preston, Nick, Colin...what a fun, hilarious, swoony, emotional and fabulous adventure it has been!

Content: Clean. Without spoiling anything, especially if you've read the series, this book deals with Candace's cancer as a teen and life continuing on, or possibly not. Don't read between the lines, just read the book.

My own personal copy.

Happy Reading!!!

This book deals with a difficult topic. Candace is a cancer survivor but is unique in that she had breast cancer as a teenager, at the same time as her mother. But her mother doesn't make it. She also overhears a conversation with a doctor saying she would only live 10 years and assumes it is about her so she makes her 10 year life plan. But then she gets to year eleven and now what is she supposed to do? She never thought she'd live long enough to marry so she didn't worry too much about the consequences of her treatment which included a double mastectomy and chemo induced alopecia making her completely bald. She has to deal with these things in a new way now because she is still alive and someone is interested in her. Can she really have a normal relationship with someone? She also deals with relationships with her sister and father.

Colin is a smart computer geek and totally inexperienced and inept in relationships so he has to deal with his attraction to Candace, figure out how to get out of the friend zone and move forward into romance. He relies heavily on his virtual helper which doesn't always work out the best. Sending a funeral arrangement of flowers is not the best way to start a romance. He is constantly tweaking her control program as he discovers bugs. His ineptitude is a bit amusing. He is always trying to figure out what he did wrong when Candace doesn't respond how he would have liked. He is very sweet and loving especially in dealing with Candace's cancer and all the consequences of it. It is too bad we all wouldn't respond in such a way as he did.

I thought Ms. Grace did a good job of tackling a difficult life situation. There is serious stuff but it isn't so overwhelming that it makes the book depressing. The series is better read in order since at least in book 5 & 6 they overlap in time so this one briefly goes to events in book 5 but doesn't explain everything in great detail. It will make more sense if you've read the previous book. I can only assume that is true in the first 4 books as well.

Sex: a make out that is leading up to more but stops before more happens.

Violence: no

I was given an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Having read the previous stories in this series, I was delighted to receive a copy of this book as it reveals the secrets that Candace has been keeping under cover. In previous novels I have been intrigued by the wigs that Candace wears and although one could guess at the reasons, they have never been defined. Colin senses why Candace wears her crazy wigs, but is fearful of chasing her off if he gets too personal. He is an awkward but lovable character and one can only hope that the computer geek will win his lady. Candice, on the other hand, has achieved all she set out to do, but battles with living life with long term goals. She is a courageous and generous woman and Colin’s bumbling efforts win her heart, giving her back a joy she never thought she would experience again. This story is warm and emotional, and comes to a happy conclusion. Although this book is part of a series, it is nevertheless a standalone and can be read by most age groups. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

A poignant story of a cancer survivor named Zoe who made a ten year plan because she believed she only had ten years to live. Ten years have passed and her friend for one and a half years, Colin wants to be more than friends. This story will touch your heart as most of us know someone who has had cancer. Great story and great characters. I also liked how it tied into the last book in the series. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

I am a sucker for a happy ending and in Mending Hearts with the Billionaire I got a super sweet happy ending but sadly that was the best part of the book for me. I've put off reading any books with the word "billionaire" in the title for a long time, but the premise of this book spoke to me, and so I gave it a try.

From the beginning I had my doubts about the plot, but Candace saved the whole book for me. I cannot even begin to imagine going through cancer while your mom is dying of cancer herself. Candace was only sixteen when she had to deal with losing her mother as well as making some life altering decisions, then feeling so ashamed that she couldn't even tell her best friends, so she holds onto this burden for years, never letting anyone close enough to show them the truth. Utterly heartbreaking. Candace is a real character and is herself a struggling college student trying to figure out her life.

Then there's Colin, the lovable, tech nerd that is a billionaire but doesn't use his money for anything but necessities, and in his inventions. Colin has been crushing on Candace for over a year and is so incredibly inexperienced with women that he hasn't even had his first kiss yet! That itself made his character feel far-fetched but sweet nonetheless. It's hard not to love Colin.

The most annoying part of the entire story was the AI program that Colin has hooked up in his penthouse. I understand the reasoning for including the AI in the story but hearing the Siri-like program every time Colin did anything in his apartment got old quick.

Despite the few negatives, there were redeeming qualities, like the camaraderie of the group of friends that Colin and Candace were apart of, and the attraction between Candace and Colin. The book also has a nice flow and the writing itself is decent. I really wanted to love this book but sadly Mending Hearts with the Billionaire fell flat for me, but maybe billionaire books really aren't my thing.

This story mostly centers around two people who have been friends for a few years but it also includes the story of this whole group of friends and the struggles that each has faced, the friendships that strengthen them and shows that even the people that we think have a perfect and easy life may have struggles and doubts that we know nothing about.
This is a wonderfully written story about these struggles and the importance of being there for each other.

Since the first book in the series, Mending Fences, I have been waiting for Candace and Colin's story. When the next book came out, I was frustrated it was about a roommate I didn't even remember instead of Candace. Now I understand why. What a beautiful story and a beautiful couple! Candace and Colin are incredible people and the growth they go through in this book is amazing. I have loved this series and am sad to see it end, but what a perfect ending!

I have read all of the series except Mending Words. Mending Hearts is my favorite!! Colin is one swoon worthy guy. He is such a sweet gentleman and I love his purity - so refreshing. Candace is a cancer survivor who has lived longer than she thought. She is beginning to rethink her bucket list and rethinking her friendship with Colin. Really enjoyed getting caught up with the rest of the previous books characters. I thought the author handled such a serious issue with much grace.

I got an ARC of this book, and I loved it. Like the rest of the series this has good, relatable characters and strong writing. I've been waiting for the Candace story since I read Fences, and it did not disappoint. A really good read.

Broken

She felt broken because of what cancer at an early she had done to her body. He thought she was beautiful but can be convince her to trust in a 50 year plan?

One of my absolute favorites ❤️❤️ When you read this book you will definitely need some chocolate and a pack of tissues! A wonderful story about love, trust, and healing. There is one intense kissing scene but overall is a good clean romance. Be sure to read the other books in this series and the branch off series of the Hasting brothers. I love Lorin Grace and can't wait to read more of her books!

Mending Hearts

This book touched close to home for me. Breast cancer affects so many in different ways. Like Candace, I often wonder what the future holds after cancer. I highly recommend this book. Good clean romance.
