They thought they could destroy House Sinister for good, but they weren’t expecting her...

Evangeline, a hellion born with the gifts of dual-blades and advanced magic not seen for over a century, had been living a great life as a Guard at House Sinister for many years.

But her world is shattered when three rival Houses attack, forcing her to watch powerlessly as her mentor and father figure, Garrick, is slaughtered. His dying command: The House must survive at all costs. With Evangeline being the only remaining member, that means she must survive a full year. It's the only way to restore honor to House Sinister.

Pissed that she has to leave, Evangeline obeys Garrick's final words and escapes, fleeing the Netherworld to a place called Los Angeles.

As a hellion, she must find a normal to possess, since that's the only way to hide from the assassins who are hot on her trail.

Too bad she catches the eye of the Black Ops Paranormal Police Dept.

Lovely.

In exchange for keeping her secret, she agrees to be their assassin, but she's damn sure going to bitch about it. There's a glaring problem with joining the PPD...a hellion wielding crushing magic and blazing dual-blades is like a Tasmanian devil on crack.

Definitely not low-key.

Evangeline will play this game of assassin for now, but her mission--her true mission--is to exact revenge on the Houses who destroyed her world and shattered her life. Though, she must admit, killing a few of the bastards now won't suck.

When her year on the run ends, she will bring pain and death...

If you like BR Kingsolver, Shannon Mayer, Jayne Faith, or Shayne Silvers...you're in for one hell of a ride with the first in the action-packed, adrenaline-pumping, snark-loaded world of Sinister, created by bestselling authors John P. Logsdon and Christopher P. Young.

The Paranormal Police Department has delighted thousands of readers with action, adventure, outrageous (and often offensive) comedy, and tons of snark. Grab your badge and join the legion of fans who keep begging for more...

Logsdon and his team of rockin' co-authors has brought laughs to hundreds of thousands of readers over various book series. The goal is simple: write stories for mature people who harbor seriously immature thoughts...

The main character, Evangeline, finds herself working for the Black Ops Paranormal Police Department. This book is action packed and has an interesting cast of characters of hellions, demons, vampires, orcs, and pixies to name a few. This is the first book in the series and I'm looking forward to reading more.

Oh boy what do I say about this one? ...Well the book is like 65% bad sex jokes.

description

I'm giving it some stars because I really do like the premise, world building, and some of the snark- but other than that it was a bit of a mess.

So in this story we have our h, Evangeline, who is a Hellion guard that ends up fighting for her life when the other houses conspire to decimate House Sinister by ending the line. However, by the skin of her teeth Evangeline ends up escaping as the only remaining member and venturing topside.

After fleeing into a recently deceased body to hide from the assassins- Evangeline takes over the life of wealthy woman Evelyn Grayson, but her retreat hasn't gone unnoticed.

After waking up in a new body at the hospital she is met by two men telling her she is wanted by some mysterious powers that be, and they want her to join their Supernatural Black Ops team in return for their silence on her new identity.

x--------------------------------x

So bare bones its interesting...but the characters and dialogue were so painful to read at times. The two male leads Q and Kayson were so annoying- plus the humor and sex jokes were less funny and just kind of crude/weird and did. not. stop.

description

Don't feel like doing a whole review on that but here are some of my notes while reading:

‣ Great we get the bitch, slut, whore name calling session and now we get "hur dur are you on your period woman?" moment too?

‣ "lesser races"...ookay.

‣ Ugh. gay jokes too? So original- these two guys' stichk of sniping one another at every oportunity is seriously annoying and ultimately meaningless

‣ The sexual innuendoes are incessant and are get old too

I got nose to nose with him. “You’re goddamn lucky I don’t strap on a wooden dildo and chest fuck you right now.”

‣ Say whaaa??

description

‣ Is talking about shoving the pixie up everyones ass meant to be funny?

‣ WHY EVERYONE IS UNBEARABLY HORNY?

‣ oh great another snarky monologue in the middle of a fight scene

‣ Also for the dialogue being so sex innuendo themed, there is like ZERO sexual tension or chemistry to be found for any of the characters.

A terrific addition to to PPD world!
As much as I enjoy the shared world PPD novels coauthored by others, the original team of Logsdon and Young is still my favorite.
Eve is a great lead character and I'm excited to see where this series takes her!

Enjoyable and Different Urban Fantasy

This is a bit of a different take from my usual Urban Fantasy reads. This is because the heroine, isn’t exactly working for the good guys.

Evangeline Sinister is an Hellion. Hellions are a race formed from demons crossed with dragons. They are formed into Houses and Evangeline is an House Guard for House Sinister. She is the daughter of a concubine who happened to catch the eye of the Head Guard and he became her mentor, giving her a way out and a determination to succeed that many of higher birth didn’t have. So when her house was wiped out in one night, leaving her the sole member of her House she had no other option to run, because if she could survive for a year after the Rite of Decimation was started, the Heads of the Houses involved in attacking her House would be executed and Evangeline would take them over. For the Rite to be a success all of the attacked House must be dead.

In order to stay alive, as her mentor would wish, she escapes to the Topside, which I’m assuming is meant to be mundane Earth, except there is complicated technology and magic and supernaturals. There is also all sorts of corruption throughout society, including the Paranormal Police Department, which has a Black Ops team, which essentially is made up of assassins who are controlled by a group of very wealthy and powerful people. They discover Evangeline and blackmail her into becoming part of their Black Ops Team, and so she begins work with an hellwolf and a vampire.

I love that Evangeline is so ruthless and practical. She admits she’s going to do whatever it takes to stay alive for a year, no matter who she has to kill. She’s not a bad person, she’s just ruthless. She’s actually a gifted soldier and leader. The vampire she’s working with, Q, is a bit useless and quite unpleasant, but he makes a great foil for her sense of humour. Kayson, the hellwolf, is a complete meathead and gung-ho to the extreme, which makes their interactions pretty funny. Though there are no sex scenes in this book there is plenty to imply there will be in future books.

The world building is fun and the plot is different and entertaining. This is not a book that inspires deep thinking, but it is a great light read, perfect for taking your mind off work, or doing chores.

I will definitely be reading the next in the series.

Wow. I’m completely in love with the start of this series. Though this book has a slower pace than others in the PPD world, there was a lot of information to convey and back story to be told. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started, and when Paranormal police department came into the mix, my expectations went in one direction while the story went another. The characters are amazingly written, with a lot of depth. However, the world building isn’t detailed, so if you’re a virgin to the PPD, I would suggest reading other books by John and Chris. I can’t wait to see where this series goes because I sure will follow.

A great start to what seems to be an amazing series.

Strong characters, lots of action and laugh out loud sense of humor are what makes Logsdon and Young books so brilliant and Unhallowed lives up to all of these. A little darker than most of their other books but in a very good way. I really can't wait to continue reading this fantastic series.

kindle unlimited, is basically part of the {Las Vegas} Paranormal Paranormal Police Department, as are A Piper & Payne Supernatural Thriller - Netherworld Paranormal Police Department, though bit of an odd addition to that universe, did not really cross over with any of the others, though if asked for order to read them in {not counting any other series of Logsdon's} would say Ian Dex ones then Piper & Payne then SE Asia PPD one, so no possible spoilers or confusion, etc, though would suggest skipping this Black Ops Paranormal Police Department series one all together. As for the various, and way too numerous. collections, they are the same ones already read, still have typos, and would not want to bother reading them again, and any listed you can assume has at least 1 collection to series or semi series or more just the same old in box set or mini set, except Badlands Paranormal Police Department {BPPD} Zeke Phoenix/John P. Logsdon & Orlando A. Sanchez, he only did 2, tho they were good, is busy writing his own various series.

I liked the flow of the story, it does go right along with the action and I love She's attitude. She is down to earth common sense and thinks ahead. That is good in her character as it moves the story along without interruption.

Evangeline (Eve) is a hellion, and member of the Guard of House Sinister. When her House is targeted by 3 others for the Rite of Decimation, she sees her friends and allies die before her. As she watches her master and mentor, Garrick fall, he gives her one last charge, Escape. If she escapes and survives topside for a year, the House survives, if she dies, the House dies with her, and as she has been trained, “The House comes first”. Now Eve is on the run through the streets of LA, chased by a squad of assassins. She must use her wits, and every ounce of her training (shown to us in a series of flashbacks) to stay one step ahead in a land she doesn’t know. Things really change for her when she chooses to “possess” the body of a woman who was dying in a car accident. Not only does she take over the body of one of the richest women in the world, but this action, which is considered illegal, brings her to the attention of a specific group of the PPD. She is forcibly recruited to be the newest member of the PPD’s Black Ops team. This book was a bit of a change from the standard PPD books. It gave a much more intimate look to the politics and life in the Badlands, but also introduced a new way of looking at the interactions between Hellion Houses. It still has much of the humor and snark that the PPD series is known for, but these new elements add just a little more. I for one am looking forward to the next installment.

Running may not be the cowardly action

A wonderful start to a new series. A heroine that doesn't suffer fools gladly and will fight to the end. Then we have a hellwolf (eager to have all his appetites appeased), a vampire (who's slightly anally retentive), an orc (who is a great inventor but lonely), a talking cat (probably a demon but strangely honourable) and a crew of assassins. The task of the assassins is to kill the heroine (as the sole surviving member of her House she can order their deaths if she can stay alive for a year) and her's is to ray alive inhabiting the body she has taken over whilst working for a police department that deals with assassinations.
Can our mismatched group carry out the tasks assigned to them whilst at the same time keeping her alive?
Great dialogue with humour, some sarcasm, lots of innuendo whilst at the same time action packed and fast paced. A great read in how they managed to bring down some crime bosses whilst she taught them that plans should be fluid and changeable and that respect must be earned not requested.

A new series with a new heroine. Evangeline is out to keep here the House of Sinister going. Saving herself to keep the three other Houses that attacked hers from taking over. Gerrick, her mentor is killed as are all of it other members. Swearing revenge, she is on the run and winds up in L.A. above the Netherworld. Now in the body of an extremely wealthy woman, she has all the money she can handle. A talking cat, The Black Ops of the PPD, new partners, being pursued by the three houses, and a determination to exact revenge makes for a new series that has already sunk it's teeth into my reading addiction. I even started reading it again which I never do. An excellent read, an excellent new series and a new heroine. What more could you ask for. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book

Outstanding

It seems like the term “kickass” was invented for the hellion Evangeline, the main character in the new Black Ops Paranormal Police Dept story. On the run and hiding from assassins sent from the three Hellion Houses which have wiped out all of House Sinister, except for her, and she must survive for one year. She must work for the Directors of the Los Angeles Black Ops PPD in exchange for them keeping her new identity a secret. Unhallowed, this first book in the series, is filled with hellion-level action, quirky characters and humour but also has depth and substance Evangeline’s character form the outset. Brilliant book.

Amazing, exciting and magical new series. I loved every page!

Unhallowed is a new series featuring a strong heroine who knows how to fight; and it's a fight to stay alive. Evangeline is an amazing, multilayered character who you will be rooting for all the way to the end. She has a team that she falls in with that will help her to seek justice for the wrong done to her. This book is incredible! It has it all: sword fights, magic, sarcastic humor, and supernatural creatures that include hellions, vampires, and shifters (as well as a few surprises). Be prepared to lose several hours as you get caught up in this new and exciting series.

Fantastic book! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Evangeline is the last survivor of her House and she must stay alive at all costs for one year. AsAs a Helion this shouldn't be a problem should it? After fleeing the Netherworld Eva is now in Los Angeles and is selected to join Black Ops and work as an Assassin. Teaming up with a Hellwolf and a Vampire Evangeline must do her job whilst being pursued by enemies from her own World who want to destroy her and so end her House Sinister. It's action packed, funny in parts and is a great read. Can't wait for Book Two.

I loved this new series entry. Set in the same world as Logsdon's other PPD series, this is a fresh look at a species we haven't encountered very often in the other books: The Hellions. Eve is trying to find her way in a brave new world and while her stumbles are often hilarious, they are also endearing. The supporting cast is as diverse and funny as ever. I highly recommend this new venture. If you love Logsdon's other PPD books, you will love this one.

Best Female Character in PPD yet.

A great new series, as we get to find out how Hellions act ,and what happens when you invite one into the murky Black OPS PPD. Best female kick ass character in the PPD univrerse yet. Was well impressed with the implementation of multiple story arcs and the potential for more from this series.

Loved Eve

Good paranormal. Eve escapes the decimation of her house by going topside. If one member of the house is alive, it will not fall. With termination assassins hot on her heels, she takes over the body of a dead accident victim. Rich, famous, and called on to being a paranormal cop.

A fun romp in a complex new world

The layers of the world are fantastic and really well done which I suppose should be no surprise as the authors have been involved in gaming where stories have back stories and those do as well! It’s fun and action filled and the characters are real and easy to visualize. I am looking foreword to the next

Surprising read

Got a bit bored so I just grabbed this to kill some time. Instead, I found an enjoyable read. Not an "erotic" read, not filled with gratuitous vulgar language (sorry, random vulgar language doesn't do it for me, i understand cursing, just not overly used). Just a good, solid story that kept me entertained. Perfect.

A new entry into the PPD world, a little darker with plenty of humor and snark. Evangeline is kick-ass heroine who can fight and has her own magic. With a great cast of characters, this is a must read. A Hellion, Hellwolf, Vampire, and a cast of characters wait for you.

This is a different PPD series. Not bad different though. A woman fighting for revenge, hiding in plain sight. A demonic rite left unfinished. The Paranormal Police themselves basically blackmailing our heroine to help. Not your standard novel. But give it a chance why don’t you.
