The Game #14

Parts of Us

Rate this book
The Game Series, #14 | Doll Parts Sequel | MMMM | M/s | DD/lb | Hurt/Comfort
Grab your favorite stuffie and join Cam, Lucian, KC, and Noa as they jump over life’s hurdles together with their kinky friends as support. Brat shenanigans are to be expected, starting with an Easter Egg Hunt—that has a twist—and continue until they’re off on their Caribbean cruise.

I could admit, when my boyfriend and I finally got together with our Master and Daddy Dom, I’d thought that this was it. I was going to cruise through the rest of my life high on love.

Six months later, I knew that the reality of a happily ever after was much more complex, messy, and beautiful. I learned to see it in the little things. Like in the smiles between Master and Daddy that whispered of their thirty-year-long friendship, in how my boyfriend lit up when he got a new stuffie, and in how we painted the walls of our home with all the raw emotions life brought. I saw it in the way our dynamics evolved, how we truly were four parts of a whole, and how we overcame obstacles.

We did have one obstacle we couldn’t postpone any longer. My boyfriend still hadn’t told his mother that he wasn’t dating only me. He was dating her ex-husband, the man who’d been his stepfather. We also had to convince our Master to cut down on work because he was stressing himself out, and his blood pressure was already high.

Then one night, I lost my footing when he collapsed and an ambulance drove off with him.

We couldn’t be us without him. If one was missing, we were just…parts.

____

The Game Series is a BDSM series where romance meets the reality of kink. Sometimes we fall for someone we don’t match with, sometimes vanilla business gets in the way of kinky pleasure, and sometimes we have to compromise and push ourselves to overcome trauma and insecurities. No matter what, one thing is certain. This is not a perfect world—and maybe that’s why the happily ever after feels so good.

The characters in the Game Series cross over in multiple books, as we follow not only new love interests but the background friendships and dynamics of a thriving kink community. This is the second story that follows KC, Noa, Cam, and Lucian. Parts of Us is best enjoyed if you’ve read Doll Parts first.

I'm often stoically silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there's so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex. There's a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve. Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. There's time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

I have no idea where to start with my review of this book other than to say Cara Dee proves, once again, that she's a master at conveying the emotional complications of living in a kink relationship.

And when that relationship is a polycule, each with unique emotions and feelings between all four of the men involved, you better believe there's plenty of opportunities for things to go wrong.

I wasn't as big a fan of the first book involving this foursome as some of the others in The Game series but I have to say, I loved this catch-up with them, although it still contains some of my least favourite kinks.

The majority of the narrative focuses on what happens after Lucian's near-miss heart attack levels of stress and the fall-out effects that has on his Master/Slave relationship with Cam, but also the ripples that cross over to both KC and Noa and how they all interact.

It's so cleverly written, you feel the stress and the tension of how Cam's faith in his Master is rocked to the core because he hasn't been doing what he promised - taking care to reduce his stress and improve his health.

Noa is dealing with guilt because he was sneaking unhealthy lunches to Lucian at work, KC isn't sure what he feels because he's being pulled in all directions.

But, because this is Cara, there's no magic solution to the situation, it involves lots of hard work, brutally honest conversations and true commitment to change.

The Game element in this book is fun, involving an Easter Egg hunt with hidden repercussions for the brats depending on egg colour and there's a secondary plotline which is kind of left on a tad of an open ending and which I expect will follow on in the next book.

Overall this was another great entry in what's been a fabulous series and there's some serious steam laid down here with a Tops orgy involving Santiago and a fair number of our McLean House fan favourites!

I love this world Cara's created where everyone gets to fulfil and live out their best kinktastic dreams.

They’re back again and how!
They’ve been together six months and they’re living the happily ever after life. But life likes to play games and certain Masters tend to think themselves invincible, and where there’s cockiness, there’s bound to be trouble.
Lucian cannot pretend he’s ‘fine’ anymore when they take him away in an ambulance. Cam loses his balance when that happens because how can he be fine when his Owner is not? But they need each other, they love each other, so they’re going to have to make it work for them, right? We’ll see how that journey plays out in this magnificent book.
While Parts of Us revolves mainly around KC/Loosh/Noah/Cam, and picks up - almost - right from where we left off in Hide With Me, we see pretty much all the beautiful men and boys from the previous books. So, get ready for some crazy fun times 😉
Also, to actually enjoy this book, I definitely suggest you at the very least read Doll Parts and Hide With Me (but seriously, just start from book one, do yourself that favour).
Boy, from the second I started reading this book last night, I seriously wished Cara was my best friend so I could message her constantly about all the parts that had me squealing/cackling/smiling like a loon. And I could not put it down! I read all through the night on my phone until I finished it, and I gotta say, that ending was a bit of a tease but I’ll allow it. 😉
I don’t pull all-nighters anymore at my sweet old age. The book has to be pretty f***ing special and all Cara’s books fall under that category for me (the non-straight books that is).
Parts of Us is a perfect example of my kind of story. We have love, we have angst, we have worry and a resolve to make it right. It’s heartbreaking and sweet and funny all at the same time.
I don’t know what else to say other than make sure you absolutely read this book because you’re gonna love it!

What to expect:
MMMM
M/s
DD/lb
Hurt/Comfort
Brats (lots and lots of them)
70s moustaches 😉
HEA!.

Boy, was it good to be back. I really needed a second part of KC, Noa, Cam and Lucien. Book one wasn’t nearly enough.

But let’s start at the beginning.

This book had a wonderful way of showing the importance of trust — especially in a BDSM setting. It showed that communication as well as trust are key to a successful and healthy relationship.
And Lucien, dear Lucien, did break Cam’s trust, though not entirely willingly.

“I’m not asking you to promise me you’ll live forever, but can you promise me you’ll do your absolute best to give me the next forty-four years of your life?”

I loved that first part of the book. The angst, the drama, the what if’s. It was really emotional but also solidified the foundation of Lucien and Cam’s relationship — and of course the relationship they had with KC and little Noa.

The few insights in KC and Lucien’s relationship, from before and from now, were really all kinds of sweet. Their love story didn’t get much attention in book one and I’m just all too happy to have gotten it now.

“I think I’m done having our love story be some secondary character in our relationship. It deserves the same attention we’re giving our attachments to the boys.”

But of course the relationships weren’t the only topic in this book. The kink — the Game — had its moments too. But it felt a tiny bit forced this time around. The romance was the main character, not the kink.

“We’d reached heights together that’d introduced us to mental and emotional orgasms. With him, I’d found out what Top space was all about.“

The foursome was — for me at least — the highlight of the book and I lived for the little moments all of them had with each other. I especially loved Lucien and Noa’s dates. I can’t even really say why but I loved seeing them together.

“I was finally with my KC, Cameron was finally with his Lucian, and together…we were everything.”

The epilogue and the highly anticipated cruise were a bit of a letdown in the grand picture of things. I waited for this vacation forever and it was only one (although quite long) chapter. It was relaxing to read about though, not gonna lie.

This was a much sweeter read than I anticipated. Not that I didn’t love it, I most certainly did, but I thought it would be more angsty. For all the teasing in the author’s group about Lucian being in the hospital, it’s actually hardly a blip at all in the grand scheme of things. To be truthful, I was a little let down with that. Oh well.

This foursome has always been highly intriguing to me. They have a group dynamic and individual ones, but this book explores those connections more deeply. I particularly loved the deepening connection between KC and Lucian and the glimpses we got into their past.

Seeing new sides of these four was a delight. Cam and Noa have such strong personalities and I love reading them. We also got to visit with so many other McLean members. The spice, while sparse, was extra hot. This was a wonderful addition to the series.

Finally! The sequel to Doll Parts is here, and it was everything I was hoping for.

Noa, KC, Lucian, and Cam have been together for about six months and it's time we got the rest of their story. Not that it's over yet, of course, but this time we leave them settled, happy, and ready to face the future together.

While the first book was mainly about Lucian and KC forming bonds and connections with Noa and Cam, both together and separately, this time we get more of Lucian and KC together, too. Their relationship has changed as much over the years as well as over the months since Doll Parts. Their connection is even stronger and what they want their relationship to be like has changed.

The same is true for basically all relationships in their dynamic but also the relationship between all four of them.

Of course, the book is filled with side characters and I loved every single scene of it. It's so nice to see past characters happy in their relationships and how they change and evolve through time. Granted, I think the whole series is supposed to take place over just a year but because the release of the books doesn't follow that timeline it feels longer.

There's still a lot more coming from this series. I'm super excited to read Ash and Nathan's second chance story especially since there wasn't a third name mentioned along with theirs so fingers crossed that their book will be about just the two of them.

I love these emotional men, it was so pure, they stole my heart already.

We know Master Lucian has a heart condition, and high blood pressure, and has to take a step back from all the work stress. Well, that’s easier said than done.
So he ended up at the hospital.

Cam is devastated and inconsolable, he did everything to keep him healthier.
Noa feels guilty because he gave him snacks on a regular basis.
KC tries to keep himself together.
Will Cam ever trust Lucian again?

“We were falling apart. Our tightly knit dynamic was unraveling and spitting out fragments of whatever we were on our own.”

The emotions are all over the place, and deeply sensible, the love is enormous and it made me so warm inside. Everything feels so natural and so well-balanced.

The BDSM dynamic we find here is as always sublime, Master, slave, Daddy, Dom, Owner, Sadist, sub, boy, little, tops, bottoms. The game… awesome and fun. The scene’s, so hot!
The story is built around the four main characters, their history, their present and future, as a group and as individuals, it’s all so promising. But of course, we will find the others of this marvelously written series too. Duh, in this kinky community, one bunch of guys is nothing without the other. And yes I adored them all.

Once again, Cara Dee takes the reader on an emotional journey deeper into the hearts and minds of these men. Doll Parts (the first part of their story) got the four of them together in their two mixed couplings, but in this book, a near-disaster forces them to dig deeper and make even more commitments. BDSM for these men is just the framework that their life hangs upon, while their love for each other holds even when needing to fight through some difficult times. Of course, there are fantastic scenes at McLean House/House McLean and fun scenarios with favorite characters from previous books in the series as well. Plus, Squishies galore!

Rating: 4.5
Steam: 4
PoV: multiple, 1st person
Genre: contemporary romance, MMMM
Main tropes: age gap, BDSM, found family

Cara Dee definitely brought all the feels into this story, and she had me both crying and giggling my way through Parts of Us!

It was fantastic seeing more of these four men - the complexities of their relationships, different personalities and dynamics were all portrayed so well, and it was interesting to see how things were still developing between all of them. I have to admit that I thought this would be more angsty than it was, considering how things ended in Hide With Me, but I loved how it ended up being more on the sweet side.

It was heartbreaking to see how Lucian’s health issues affected Cam and the way it shook their foundation though. The support and love from the community was heartwarming to see and I loved how Greer handled everything with Lucian and Cam. He’s definitely showed once again why he’s one of my favourite characters!

There was just overall so much that I loved with this story! I loved the way Lucian felt possessive of KC, and how they were so incredible sweet and dreamy together. I loved how Noa was the sweetest, brattiest brat and made me laugh so much. I loved all the banter and shenanigans going on in the community. I loved the group play, the kink and all the steam. Oh, and the glimpses into the shared history and long friendship between Lucian and KC were absolutely precious!

Parts of Us was a fantastic addition to the Game series - I'm ridiculously fond of this found family and community, and I’d totally live in this world that Cara Dee has built with this series if it was possible!

After the prologues, the story starts right where the last book finished. If you haven't read the previous books, you might not understand all that's happening or who is who.

Cara's characters are really likeable and she writes with all the feelings. I bawled my eyes out next to Cam, but I also laughed out loud and Noa's antics and smiled because of Lucian and KC. These characters just feel so alive and make me enjoy the story even more. There is a lot of humor alongside the tears.

The story itself focuses on the relationship between Lucian/Cam/Noa and KC. There are a lot of developments, some scares, tears and laughter. Of course, this is a kinky book, so there are plenty of BDSM elements as well. I love how Cara shows the different aspects of BDSM, as well as the mistakes people can make while living the lifestyle 24/7 (or close to). It makes her characters flawed and that makes them even more human.
There are some flashbacks to Lucian/KC's past, how they met and how their relationship developed over time. Even though the first part of the story focuses a bit more on Lucian/Cam, this book really tells the story of all four main characters. Of course, there are also a lot of familiar faces of characters from previous books in this series, as well as getting to know some of them a little bit better.

The story end with a teeny tiny cliff-hanger, which I hope we will hear more about in the next book, but so far, Cara has never disappointed me in that regard. I'm really looking forward to the next book and almost wish this series would never end, as I love all the characters so very much!

Parts of Us is book 14 in The Game Series.

This is your vibe if you like:
Daddy/boy
MMMM
Master/Slave
The Games World

I’ve been looking forward to more from this series. It is hands down my fave series from Cara.

This is a great sequel to Doll Parts where we first see the KC/Lucian/Noa/Cam dynamic but I love how their relationships have grown through the other books and the other couples stories.

I love Noa’s lines, seriously if there’s an unfiltered outburst it likely Noa and I’m so here for it every time!
This very much has the hurt/comfort vibes too. So it might punch you in the feels slightly. But their stories within their dynamic are some of my faves. The growth, snips from the past and setting up for the coming books really will have you hooked.

This book may also have you noming Easter eggs or maybe that was just me haha
I’m so looking forward to the next book!

I ATE THIS BOOK UP!!!!!!!!!!! This was exactly the sequel that these men needed and it was perfect in every way. At the end of this book I was wholeheartedly in love with their dynamic. Cara really outdid herself with this one. With MMMM it's hard to make it seamlessly "even" amongst everyone but she truly did it! Not a single member of this relationship felt like the spare. They each have a unique bond with each other and it made my heart SO HAPPY!!!! LUCIAN BEING POSSESSIVE OF KC. PREPARE YOURSELVES FOR THAT. IT IS EVERYTHING!!!!!! I do have a weakness for KC and Lucian. Tops topping tops always wins. SORRY NOT SORRY!

The brats in this one are torturing me as well as the sadists! WHAT ARE THEY UP TO?!

I'm SO EXCITED for Ash & Nathan!!!!!!! MORE SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE FROM CARA!

I loved this book, just like the rest of the series.
We see more of characters that have had a previous book, this book was full of the feels, love, hurt, pain, comfort, confusion and sadness.
I love these guys dynamic
The only thing I think would’ve improved it, would be to see a bit more of Noa, I feel like he played a secondary character compared to the other three in his dynamic, maybe it’s just me but I felt like he was left out of a lot of new developments for their relationships, and I love Noa and understand his thoughts on marriage but seems like he was a last thought when it comes to involvement in the relationship.
We saw very little of Cam and Noa together

I enjoyed Doll Parts, the first half of the storyline involving Lucian, KC, Cam, and Noa and their intertwined relationships. The end of that book establishes a solid “happily for now,” not leaving us with a cliffhanger (hard or soft) like some of the duets in this series where the installments are closer together. Instead, we get a different sort of cliffhanger at the end of the previous book, which does an excellent job of launching us into this story and allows Dee to resolve a few lingering issues—and force her characters to confront all-new ones. Even with the glimpse of what was to come from the ending of Hide With Me, the sweetness of the first prologue is plenty of warning that something will soon definitely hurt. Luckily, we’re not in total suspense for too long, though the road to full recovery for all the characters involved won’t be easy.

Doll Parts focuses primarily on the relationship that builds between Noa and KC, including how that relationship shifts the already solid bond between Noa and Cam. We also get glimpses into the Lucian/KC, Lucian/Noa, and KC/Cam dynamics essential to building a solid foundation when multiple relationships intersect. The dynamic I was never worried about involved Lucian and Cam, who make their total power exchange (TPE) seem so effortless that it’s easy to pretend these men were always meant to be together. They definitely are, but Dee once again uses the overarching theme of this series to offer readers a compelling but painful view into the “darker” side of how things can turn rotten when a TPE dynamic informs the structure of a relationship. The angst of this book is in the realm of relevant relationship conflicts that arise from the inciting incident of a medical issue; this is not a book that relies wholly on the medical issue as an external conflict that puts the characters through the wringer. The conflict between Lucian and Cam is significantly different from the abuse Corey undergoes earlier in the series; however, even when unintentional, the damage and lasting effects can be problematic when involving TPE.

Even deliciously angsty books can turn too dark to be truly enjoyable. Dee uses her impressive experience with narrative structure and point of view to effectively balance the necessary difficult storytelling with the eventual positive resolution. Her excellent characterization also means that even once I have enough information to see the light at the end of the tunnel, my heart still breaks for Cam when we return to his storyline and follow along as he catches up to present events. The choice of POV also informs the additional development of the sweetly unique relationship between Lucian and Noa in this book that resolves a lingering but painful obstacle to Noa and KC’s true happily ever after.

The final relationship arc, one seemingly effortless but absolutely worthy of attention, featured in this book brings the evolution of this incredible foursome full circle in subtle but delightful ways. On the surface, the prologue showing the original encounter between Lucian and KC appears to exist to provide context for how Lucian’s life looks in the present day. However, it also highlights the adorable jock/prep friendship that persists between KC and Lucian as adults and offers a solid but subtle framework for their individual love story. They might be adorably swoony with each other in the best Dom ways, but the love between these two men is just as important as that between Lucian/Cam and KC/Noa, ultimately serving as the final, and possibly most essential, supportive bond in this particular foursome.

The work all these characters do to repair their relationship(s) throughout this book would not have been possible without the affection and care (and hard love) of the amazing found family Dee has developed within this series. Cameos are fun, but the bonds of truly supportive friendship they allow are much more important, especially because not even book heroes should exist in a vacuum. That being said, Dee also indulges her faithful readers with additional climactic moments (pun totally intended), such as an incredibly sexy scenario featuring many of our favorite Tops that is still entirely respectful to and appropriate for the relationships and dynamics established in previous installments to this intricate series.

The extended epilogue features a vacation everyone deserves, not just the core four of this book, and allows readers to spend additional time with other beloved series characters. Once again, rather than pure fluff, Dee takes advantage of this interlude out of real life to craft a truly perfect happily ever after for Lucian and Cam, KC and Noa, and all the other delightful variations therein.

I think I have to step back from this series.

I loved Doll Parts, it was the book that proved to me that PolyAm romances can be, and can have incredible and balanced dynamics between all partners, that's why I was so excited for the second part and wanted to read it so much! And Parts of Us didn't disappoint, even more so it proved to me how great the different dynamics can be with the exploration of Lucian x KC, Lucian x Noa and even KC x Cam.

Loved seeing Greer and KC being so protective of Cam. Especially in a scenario of Cam, being in a TPE relationship, loses the center of his world, by their own negligence.

Loved Macklin's and the Littles's mischievousness and I can't wait to see what "the prank" entails! It was certainly entertaining to see the Tops launching a reconnaissance on McClean grounds trying to figure it out. Even more so the mind games the Littles played with not deploying "the prank" on the cruise because the Tops were expecting it!!!

The best of all to me though, was KC and Lucian figuring out what they want from each other and establishing their dynamic. Just Lucian's possessiveness was mouthwatering!

And oooh the wet scene with "doll mode"!!! What to say there!!! It was HAWWWT

Now why the 3 stars? Why I feel like I need to step back from the series?

One of the first genres I dived into when I first started reading MM romances (like 15yrs ago) was BDSM, especially by Sean Michael and Kim Dare. Both authors, I feel like they wrote the genre, romance and relationships within the dynamics pretty well and adhering to the Safe, Sane and Consensual.

So when I pick a book that is in the genre I'm expecting high intensity and scenes on page plus the exploration and establishing of relationships. But I found that most of the books in the Game Series are lacking in the scenes department. A lot is talked about but very little is shown. One of the reasons I loved Breathless so much was Shay's wet interrogation scene.

Lucian reminisces of the mental and physical orgasms he had while in TPE with Cam but we aren't shown those. I know that Lucian and Cam had to build back up after what happened with Lucian being hospitalised, before they start immersing themselves in TPE again, so that wasn't explored much, but their relationship hardly had a kink factor in it (or it was so mild I don't remember it) and it was the one relationship I wanted to see more of since it was hardly shown in Doll Parts.

The story really should have been more Lucian and Cam, and maybe it was and I forgot it because it hardly made any impact, unlike the Lucian x KC, the Lucian x Noa and even the expanding of Daddy KC x (Brat) Cam. If you don't count the beginning when Cam came back and the proposal in the cruise, the Lucian x Cam was hardly there.

The Top play was just... meeeeh?! And I think the reason was given by Macklin eloquently. The Tops will never be like they were before they found their significant others. I'd so love to see River, Reese, Colt, Greer, KC and Walker unleash themselves and go all out on the sl**ty ones, aka Lucas, Sloan and Santiago. I'd want explicit details, DP and filth, but alas it won't be happening, so the scene was good just not breathtaking.

And lastly WTF was up with everyone saying 'nything' ALL the freaking time!!!! That only just now started in this book and it doesn't make sense to me!!! It was throwing me off the story and I had to re-read sentences to freaking see what was supposed to be there!!!

I think my problem is that I'm expecting to see each of the dynamics, in every book, to be explored significantly on page, both romantically and in kink, and that isn't happening. There was a large portion of the story dedicated to their day to day lives and I love that but when in BDSM you kinda expect some kink to happen at some point else you might as well read a vanilla romance.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Cozy, welcoming and gently warm, each story creates the feeling of coming home. This is one of the series with the most impressive, broad cast of main characters. And while the focus of each book is on a different trio/quad, the other characters don't just fade into the background or make sporadic cameos. Nope! This is such a uniquely shaped found family that their lives are practically intertwined and connected on a deeply spiritual level. They are more than friends, united by the specifics of their D/s lifestyle. Every joy, success, failure, struggle, burden, doubt resonates throughout the community. The stories are all interconnected, but the last one is about some of the characters I love the most so I was really happy for the peek into the inner sanctum of the relationships between KC, Lucian, Cam and Noah. And what I discovered completely floored me. Their love and care for each other were so masterfully described on page that the readers could feel it deep down to the marrow of their bones. And I felt it, experienced it, and kept it as one of my favorite memories. When Lucian 's passionate workaholic tendencies, lead him to a hospital stay, this scare rocked the whole foundation of his little family of 4. Because not only did he endangered himself and completely overlooked his own health and needs, but his choices reflected badly on the life of the people depending on him, believing in him, relying on his strength and better judgement. Boundaries were blurred, promises were broken, but we also got to see how the magnitude of what happened and the way Lucian handled the situation, reflected first on his master-slave 24/7 dynamic with Cam and on the relationships with the other 2 most important people in his life - KC and Noah.
Besides the crisis we witnessed happening in the story, there was also beautifully described reflection of KC and Lucian's friendship through the years that naturally, fluidly morphed into so much more. Lucian's hospital stint brought to the front line, the feelings they both harboured for each other for years, but suppressed in fear that could irrevocably change their dynamic in unknown direction. And once again I admired the strength they had to face the internal doubts, wrangle the niggling fears and finally, finally admit the truth in front of each other - the ship has sailed and their friendship has long ago bloomed and changed into love - deep, undeniable and hard to contain in a friendly box, love.
Parts of us is a spot on name for this story : parts of us are afraid, parts of us have doubts, parts of us are in pain, parts of us secretly crave love and affection, but as long as there is a friend or lover to catch the pieces before they are scattered or shattered, we will be good. Everyone needs a safe landing or a harbour to escape a storm. Lucian and KC were all of these places for each for as long as they could remember in all their formative years. It was a natural continuation to confess the love and embrace it. And even better - they each had one more special person to share it with and the balance in their quad was perfectly formed.
As always in Cara Dee's books, there is a huge bonus that makes the emotional impact of every story, even more intense. It's the kinks galore of course: exhibitionism, Voyeurism, sharing, water sports, doll play and so much more. With all the sadists, masochists, Littles and slaves in a tight knitted community without kink shaming, where every desire is welcome to be explored, while boundaries are always respected, there is so much fun to have.

Settle in everyone. This book is thick.

Obligatory you really should read at least Doll Parts first, but if you don't, you'll figure it out. Plus there are A LOT of characters from across this whole series and most of them make appearances. Just fyi.

Last we saw Lucian he was grabbing his chest and people were calling 911. Seriously, Cara Dee left us hanging like that. Mean. And then made us wait through other books! Super mean. But this book brings us Lucian's recovery and with that, he kind of falls in love with his men, and they him, all over again. Swoon.

The fallout from Lucian's health scare lead to some trust issues, Owner/slave issues, what role do I play issues and "who am I now" issues. There is a good focus on how something like that affects other people- especially those closest to you.

Noa has also run out of excuses to talk to his mother about his relationship with KC. So that's a thing and more fallout to deal with.

We also get some flashback scenes with Lucian and KC and I LOVED them. I love the dynamic these two have so seeing where it came from was super fun.

Now here's where I complain. A little. I think this book should be been broken into at least two. Once Lucian is on the slow road to recovery and the foursome has mostly gotten their feet back under them, everyone goes back to McLean House for fun and games. And while that did allow some more introspection by Lucian and some wise words from founders, it just didn't feel like they should be there yet. I think they needed more alone time first. I wanted to see them make the changes in their house to make it more HOME. I wanted to see them give up the condo. I wanted to see what would drawn Lucian in as a hobby now that he wasn't working.

That is not to say I didn't enjoy that story line and that part of the book. I did. And trust me, I don't think there is another author who can write such a creative "multiple partner" (yanno, the O word. The other O word) scene that makes sense and it's not just a crazy free for all pile of bodies. It's almost poetic in it's fluidity.

And that brings us to the epilogue. And I am sure there is a method to her madness (I say that with love) but it wasn't an epilogue so much as a very long beginning to the next book.

It was worth the wait, even though I hate waiting.

This book focuses on the dynamic of the four main characters who came together in Doll Parts, book 4, and the dynamic between them to function as the four parts that make up this whole, both within their own foursome and in their kink community. Each character faces a challenge that threatens to shake the evolution of their whole dynamic, and if one part is missing, to fracture it into just parts, no longer able to function as a whole.

Lucien’s work ethic and stress create a health crisis for him, Cam develops trust issues as he tries to cope with the fear and anxiety for Lucien, Noa still has to face his mother about his relationship with KC, and KC is still coming to terms with his ongoing disabilities after the accident and the extent of his feelings for Lucien. Each character must faces the challenge of their own personal part of the dynamic and its impact on the whole, then find a way to resolve it and keep the whole intact.

This is one of my favorite series, but I wish I had had time to go back and reread some of the books before this one, especially number 4 and 13, because with so many additional characters, it is hard to keep them all straight without a list. It doesn’t detract from the enjoyment of the book, it just slowed me down remembering all the doubles, throuples, and quad groupings, the Masters, Daddies, boyfriends, slaves, Littles, etc, that are an integral part of this book and the others. Each of these characters are so well developed and unique, with interesting backgrounds and dynamics of their own, it is easy to get drawn back into this kink community. A good read if you are into all the dynamics and kinky goings on with the members of McLean House.

I've been taking kind of a hiatus from reading but since this book is part of one of my favorite series from my favorite MM author....obviously I had to read it immediately.

Doll Parts is one of the books in this series that I usually skip over in my re-reads of the series mostly because the kinks presented just aren't for me. And because I never really felt as connected to the foursome as I do some of the other dynamics in this series. I'm so glad Cara wrote this sequel because it makes me appreciate these characters more. I feel their connection better.

We start this book where the last book in the series ended -- with Lucian's health scare. I think it was handled pretty well, and I love how Cam set boundaries for himself. I also loved how much the House McLean friends rallied around them all, offering support and lectures where necessary. It just highlights how intertwined and close knit they all are with each other which absolutely warms my heart.

There's some kink in this book, definitely some smut, and a whole lot of this foursome settling more comfortably in their individual dynamics with each other. There's a little angst at the beginning, but otherwise it's mostly a book of understanding new boundaries and needs within the group. Toss in lots of cameos, a cruise, and tons of highlighting the crazy things that come out of Noa's mouth!

I am sad that this series is starting to become a little stale to me. As much as I love the characters and wish we could have their stories forever, I'm not feeling the same magic in the last few books as I did back in the beginning. The games aren't as exciting. The relationships don't feel as fleshed out and new. Cara is hands down my favorite MM author, but I'm personally ready for her to branch back out to other worlds.

Cara Dee did an amazing job on this story. I couldn’t put it down, the sheer emotions just pulled me right in.

I love how this one focused on relationships. Yes, there was still kink (and I’ll get to that in a moment), but seeing these four together, there aren’t enough words to do it justice. I loved seeing the past snippets with KC and Lucian. It really brought a depth to the story. Not only that, but to see the way their relationship has progressed, it’s breathtaking. It’s also a good reminder that kinks and relationships can evolve and I’m so here for that.

Two things that stood out for me on the kink. Safewording. It’s not just for a scene and it’s not necessarily a word. When Cam needed to step back because of the emotional upheaval with his Owner, there was respect there. The community helped him and made sure he was protected, just as they should. As to the second, I loved seeing where a scene was modified due to the hard limits of the sub. It really illustrated the importance of these things in the community. Cara Dee did a phenomenal job showcasing how important these aspects are in a BDSM relationship.

The world building continues to be amazing. There’s always a layered depth where you feel like you’re there. It’s impossible not to fall in love with these characters and the community they’ve built. There’s a friendship that exists there.

As always, the plot was engaging. I finished it in one setting, needing to know what was going on. The story is not only with the four featured, but by the other characters weaved in. And please, I need more Macklin!

🖤 Parts of Us // The Game Series// Cara Dee// Book 14 🖤

🖤 Goodness! I LOVE these characters so much. Each and everyone of them, in their own ways, with their own flaws and all.
Parts of us, is a look into the lives of Kc, Noa, Lucian, and Cam- loving and loving as a lil poly, shminky family. Including the highs and the lows of real life. 🖤

🥹The lows- As a married kinkster in my 30s- this book hit HARD. This is that real life pain. The intersections of shmink and human flaws and struggles. Ooooooof. My poor little heart was hanging on every word. 🥹

✨The highs- I loved seeing the resilience of true love play out in this dynamic. I adored how Cara Dee included the everyday and the beauty in the small moments. ✨

🔥The spice- can someone say Top play?? Also that ABDL scene may have been the hottest one I’ve ever read. Cara does not shy from the shmink, but it also matches the characters and story so perfectly.🔥

🖤I cannot recommend this series enough! I know this many books looks so daunting, but I promise it’s worth it! The way I love and know these characters so completely is so unique to this series, and thanks to the depth and detail of these books. Thank you thank you, Cara Dee for your absolute talent and dedication in this series!! 🖤

If you're a fan of the series, you will absolutely enjoy this book. If you haven't been reading the series, I would strongly suggest reading at least Doll Parts first. Because it will be all too easy to spoil things, I'm going to keep this as general as possible.

I loved seeing more of Cam, Noa, Lucian, and KC as their relationship grows and changes. Doll Parts gave us their beginning, but this one provides us with a closer look of their dynamic after they have settled into it more. The incident that happened early on was an eye-opener for all of them. While it had the potential to damage so much, they worked their way through it most of the worst part of it. They still have some things to work out, but I loved the changes that they embraced. I loved how the community supported and helped them all in their time of need. I liked seeing KC and Lucian spending time together just the two of them and the way that their relationship changed and deepened. This foursome is much stronger than before, and I truly believe it can weather any storm now.

As always the monthly game at House McLean was full of surprises. I love seeing all the members interacting and scheming throughout the book. As always, I can't wait for the next book and to see how things play out for a variety of reasons.

OMG, this book had Everything and was Everything. I’ve been invested in this series from the first book. Here we are at book 14 and I’m still completely immersed in all of the characters. These men and women formed a community of like minded individuals that became their chosen family.

This book mostly focused on our polyamorous quad family of Lucian, KC, Cameron, and Noa, We learned the backstory of Lucian and KC’s relationship. How and when they met as well as how the boys came into their lives. We were also treated with catching up with the other guys and their relationships. I was over the moon to hear from the Tenley triad, my first favorite couple who found their boy. Then there was Kingsley and Tate, Macklin and Walker, Lucas, Colt, and Kit, and Master Greer and his brood. I felt high hearing from all of them again.…especially Master Greer’s group and Reese and River. I’m in Love w/ River’s mind.

Ms. Cara had me “clutching my pears” by page 20. This was right up my angsty alley. Lucian was in the hospital…what??? Cam, his slave was not by his bedside…what?? Our sweet bratty little Noa, in complete adult mode in order to face his mother (that bitch) but leave crying and sad…what??? Then there was drama in the community because of cheating in one particular relationship. What. The. Heck?? My emotions went everywhere. I laughed, I cried, and then there were those moments where I saw red because of certain people that will remain nameless. Yeah, this one had it All.

The Game Series is at its best with a fully developed community of caring characters, a deep shared history, and storylines that cross over each other time and again. In this book, we revisit the relationships of Cam, Lucian, KC, and Noa. The story starts at a scary time for the four men, but it is a testament to their joint strength that they meet it head-on and prevail.

One of the main plot lines of this book is the deepening relationships of KC and Noa, Lucian and Cam, and KC and Lucian. We learn a lot more about the early years of KC and Lucian and how it's informed their current relationship. A few other storylines weave throughout, showing the emotional range of the MCs and how they relate to the House Mclean community. Also, I convinced myself to buy a certain brand of stuffed animal for a family member although I'd never heard of it before, so there is that.

I keep coming back to read Cara Dee's books because she has such a unique way of storytelling that is rich in character development, perfect pacing, authentic looks into the various aspects of the world of BDSM, plus complex lives that include careers, leisure, family life, friends, and all kinds of kinky lifestyles. This book has some major relationship high points and, while a definite HEA, some enticing breadcrumbs to the next several books in the series. The entire series is highly recommended!

Cameron. No, Lucian and KC are still happy living together but as with all relationships, there are some challenges. Noa has still not told his mother that he is in a relationship with KC who was his stepfather and Lucian has not heeded the warnings that he needs to slow down. But the smiles between Lucian and KC still showed their deep love and affection after their thirty-year-long friendship. Their dynamics had evolved and were all parts of one whole. Then one night everything screeched to a stop when Lucian collapsed and an ambulance took Lucian with them leaving Cameron with broken trust and intense hurt. They couldn’t be us without him and if one was missing, they were just parts.

Wow - this story had some major dramatics, emotions and feelings. Poor Cameron was rudderless and I was glad that their community and friends came to the fore to both help and support him as well as read Lucien the riot act as to what he had done. I think they all had to show just how strong they all were but it proved that their dynamic worked. As usual, there were shenanigans between the brats and the sadists. I was a little disappointed that the cruise was covered in an epilogue as it deserved more words than that. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MMMM story with mature content with BDSM-like DDLB, D/s and M/s dynamics.

I feel like every time I go to write a review for this series, I don't know what to say. Every book is better than the next. This one hit different though. It still had all the deliciously filthy moments you know and love from the game series. Doll mode. That's all I have to say.

But there was a bigger emotional component in this one that had me right in my feels through the whole story. And this is a long one. I loved seeing how real everyone was. It was just a real, already established relationship, growing and mending, and dealing with all the struggles anyone does in a long term relationship. It was beautiful. I felt for everyone for different reasons. Of course Cam and Lucian especially in the beginning. But then we got to see more of KC's uncertainties and struggles with his injuries, which I loved. He always seemed so secure in himself, which he is, but everyone has doubts, and it was great seeing him and the group deal with that.

It was also funny and cute, and I highlighted so many quotes. I can't wait for the next one.

I was looking forward to this volume because The Game Series is my favorite series by Cara Dee. You don't have to know the whole series, but I recommend at least reading Doll Parts first, then you'll get the full reading experience.
I loved the dynamic between Lucian, Cam, KC and Noa and it was great to get to know the characters better. Lucian is a workaholic and because he doesn't take care of his health, he ends up in the hospital. This is a major event for the relationship between the four of them and I loved how the author described the care and love, but also the stressful situations of the small family and their relationships with each other. Having wondered for some time about KC and Lucian's past, I was delighted to find that these questions were answered in flashbacks in this book.
Cara Dee's writing style was wonderful as always and once I started reading, the story quickly captivated me. Get ready for lots of emotions and a slightly different Easter egg hunt.
As I said, the story was very entertaining and emotional and we meet many of the protagonists from the previous volumes again, which I always enjoy. And now I'm already looking forward to the next volume!

I absolutely loved getting a deeper glimpse into this foursome. (Noa is still my spirit animal)

While Doll Parts gave us an amazing intro into this poly dynamic, Parts of Us took us to a whole other level.

While the near-tragedy brought the angst, it was actually the perfect catalyst to propel these four into a deeper, more meaningful, and permanent direction.

Everyone seemed to be dealing with their own version of guilt for what they believed was their contribution to the tragedy, but in the process, we saw different dynamics within the foursome find comfort, connection, and solace they hadn’t yet experienced. Cam leaned on KC, Noa bonded with Lucian, and KC and Lucian took a huge step in their own relationship (with flashbacks of their past) that just brought everything together.

I absolutely loved this book, and while I’m sad their “story” is over, I know that with Cara, it’s never really the end. I can’t wait to see them all in the future.

Did you know that Lucian is in the hospital?

The Game series book 14 is about
Lucian, Cam, KC and Noa. Master, slave, daddy and little
Or is everything chancing a bit?
Is someone a little more little then he thought?
Is someone a little more possessive the he thought?
Someone is standing up for himself!
And someone figures out he is strong enough!

I’m always happy when Cara releases another book in this series, if there is one thing Cara is perfect at its writing Kink and emotions, and real life!
And she has done it again this time.

I’m absolutely in love the theses 4 men, the dynamic between them is something else, and I was sure I knew where I had them before I stated this book.
But as always Cara had other plans, and the development was beautiful to read.

We go from a hospital scare, to a proposal, to a lifetime engagement, talk about tattoos to buying squish mellows and going on a cruise!

In between we have a ester egg hunt, and a very steamy evening
Who don’t love tops playing with tops!

Now we sit back and wait for the next book is this wold of amazing loving men.
