As a someone of Indian descent and born into Hinduism I wasn't sure if I'd like this book but to my surprised I loved this book. I thought the author treated the Hindu gods respectfully but also kept the reader engaged. I enjoyed the character development of Maya and parts of her life and portrayal of the Indian community really resonated with me. The negative portrayal (patriarchal attitudes, arranged marriages, gender disparity etc...) was really balanced by characters like Maya's parents or aunt Claudia. It's a good ready, well written and hard to put down. I'm definitely reading the next in the series.

I enjoyed this book very much! I found it interesting to read about the pantheon of gods and goddesses from a different culture. The various personalities were fascinating! I liked all of the characters very much. It was sometimes frustrating how helpless Maya seemed, but I did like her grit and determination. I definitely recommend this book!

I enjoyed reading this because it approached the YA fantasy novel with a different pantheon. I've rarely encountered the Hindu religion in fantasy tales. Well done! I think fans of fantasy would enjoy this book.
