She never wanted a damn partner...
Meet Piper Shaw. She's one of the Netherworld Paranormal Police Department's toughest. She's also an immortal, and she's got one hell of a chip on her shoulder.

Meet Reaper Payne. He's an actual reaper. Yes, one of those guys who ferries the dead. Unfortunately, he broke a rule of his order, and it was a doozy. His punishment is to dwell alongside the living for one hundred years.

They're both Retrievers in the PPD. Essentially, they hunt in the Overworld to bring back supernaturals who have overstayed their welcome.

Piper is clear about one thing: She does not want a partner.

They just became partners.

Gallien Cross is an escaped prisoner. He's been turning normals in the Overworld into vampire zombies. His goal is to build an army that will keep him from going back to prison.

Piper and Reaper must put aside their differences as they battle through tough goons, vampire zombies, and Cross himself.

But there are some unexpected outcomes, and when she finally learns the full story, it may just be too late for everyone…

If you like Nazri Noor, Orlando A. Sanchez, Hunter Blain, Kimbra Swain, Shayne Silvers, Rick Gualtieri, Patricia Briggs, Shannon Mayer, Michael Anderle, or K.F. Breene, you'll have a blast in the Netherworld Paranormal Police Department or any Paranormal Police Department precinct.

Excellent Read!
I like well written protagonists and even better when its a duo. This book hits on all cylinders. First off, the dialogue is great - that really helps you get into a character's head - how they speak. This is my first foray into Logsdon's Overworld and Netherworld and I like it - I just bought the rest of the first five books - I'm hooked. While urban fantasy has been adding more and more series with women protagonists, it's really nice to see a series with a female that's 360 well done. I read a lot of urban fantasy and not since Rachel Caine's Weather Warden series have I read a female lead as well written as this one. Keep the books coming - I'm officially a fan.

Piper and Reaper Payne may share a world with Ian Dex, but the retrievers have a much different job than the Vegas PPD.

Piper is a bit more grounded and realistic, but she is fun and engaging in her own way. She also reads like a real person, instead of being a mix of badass woman stereotypes.

I like that this companion series brings something new to the universe, while still being comfortable to existing fans. Also, Reaper is a blast.

Entertaining! It's not reaching for the stars when it comes to overriding storyline, but it was fun, humorous and had a good balance of action and plot. It also gives a look at the Retrievers referred to in the other PPD novels.

I enjoyed this easy to read story. We get gently immersed into the world the main characters in habit. In later tales, we can expect more details, here we had hints of some paranormal process influencing our main characters' development but realise that this world and its inhabitants will have more surprises in store for us.
Piper, who has become immortal , likes working alone, but gets saddled with an unwelcome partner, also immortal, who says he is called Reaper. They work as a type of policing officers, going up against various criminal paranormal types. They have various combative powers that gradually get revealed.
Reaper and Piper bicker a bit as they work a difficult case and get to know each other. Then Piper is asked to also take on two human officers, who often have mocked her, and evaluate their suitability for the paranormal work. All four carry on with that first task which proved much more difficult than anyone expected. There is fighting, magic, and we meet a goblin creating useful power-wielding tattoos.

A new series from Logsdon and Young that promises to be as great as the others! Two immortal supernaturals pair (uncomfortably,) and are soon paired with two mortals (even more uncomfortably) to fight the bad guys. A leader that wants to be alone, a Reaper that can't keep his eyes dimmed, and a story line that is as good as it is crazy. It is fast paced, with good character development, and a minor character that is sure to be a superstar soon. I enjoyed this one immensely, and am looking forward to the next book soon!

This is a really unique world that the author has created. I think the book would benefit from more world building to explain how things work. The characters are a little too glib to build affection. I also am not fond of all powerful characters. Overall this is a very interesting book.

I have read, and enjoyed, all the Ian Dex novels. That being said, I Love Piper and Reaper, they have surpassed Ian and his crew in my affections. Piper is a highly efficient lone wolf Retriever (think Marshalls to Ian Dex's police detectives), who gets stuck with a new partner who she feels she will have to protect instead of doing her job. His glowing eyes, and previous life as a grim reaper are constantly getting on her nerves. Then the poor girl is further insulted by having to assess two very mortal police officers, whom she has quite the adversarial relationship with, to see if they can train to be retrievers. Hilarity ensues as the men all prove their mettle as they chase the talented bad guys. Nice twist on who the true leader of the bad guys is, didn't see it coming! A great paranormal action read, a must try novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another amazing read from John Logsdon and Christopher Young
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 25, 2018
Another amazing read from John Logsdon and Christopher Young. The first of hopefully many books based on the characters Piper and Payne. The plot is fast paced and action packed, full of supernatural creatures and dark humour.

The characters are well developed and you find yourself enjoying the relationship Piper starts to build with her colleagues. She is a typical lone wolf type character who finds herself lumbered with a number of newbies to her department. The authors have managed to write this in a way that the main character doesn't lose her own identity but does manage to work with others without it feeling forced.

I was introduced to these characters in another book written by these authors in their PPD series, although only in passing. This new book is not linked to the PPD series other than they are set in the same world, and there are a few casual references to characters from previous books and an implied understanding of the supernatural rules in their world, therefore, although this book could be read as a separate novel, I would suggest reading it in conjunction with the PPD series.

I can't wait for the next book!

    5.0 out of 5 stars It’s Terrific!
Reviewed in Australia on January 25, 2018
Terrific first novel in the Piper and Payne (of the Paranormal Police Department) series. ‘Blood Crossed’ combines elements of the Crime fiction genre with a supernatural twist. It’s got everything you’d want from a novel of this type: vampires, were wolves, zombies as well as great characters. It’s easy and enjoyable reading and I have no hesitation in recommending this e-book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another fantastically funny paranormal police department series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 25, 2018
This fantastically funny urban fantasy series about Piper and Payne from the Netherworld Paranormal Police Department is linked to, but still works if you haven't read, the Ian Dex series which started with The Merging. The humour is there from the start and the Netherworld team are all the better for being fun, sarcastic and neither perfect nor pc. There is a great mixture of laugh out loud humour, action and storyline in this first book of another potentially addictive series which kept me wanting to read more even though I knew I had to get up early for work in the morning?! I have been enjoying the development of the Ian Dex series and absolutely cannot wait for Piper and Payne to do the same!

A fun and very messy book! Messy as in things that go boom, that is. Having a reaper on the team is a great idea, I really enjoyed it.
