--SEQUEL TO THE ACTION-PACKED THRILLER NOVEL 'SOFT TARGET' --From bestselling author, Iain Rob Wright --Also includes bonus novella, DAYS OF CHRISTMAS by Craig Saunders
Sarah Stone is missing. The terrorism threat in the UK is growing. MCU agent, Howard Hopkins, has been called to hospital. Not because he is sick, but because there has been an outbreak. Somebody has intentionally infected hundreds of people with Ebola Virus. It's time for the Major Crimes Unit to act.
Sarah Stone hasn't seen home for 4 months. Someone is keeping her captive. She intends to find out who and why. Then make them pay.
Soon Sarah and Howard's paths will cross, and they may not be on the same side when it happens. They are both looking for the same man, a psychotic doctor with a grudge against Western society and a mission to inflict upon the world the biological terrors of impoverished Africa. He won't be happy until Ebola, HIV, and Malaria are as much a threat in the United Kingdom and Europe as they are in the 3rd World. How do you fight an enemy you can't see?
Iain Rob Wright breaks new ground in the non-stop thriller genre as he tops his previous book, Soft Target. The threat is current and lodged in the psyche of today's society. A book sure to thrill and frighten.
"Iain Rob Wright blows me away." J A Konrath, author of the Jack Daniels books
One of Horror's most respected authors, Iain Rob Wright is the writer of more than forty books, many of them bestsellers. A previous Kindle All-Star and a mainstay in the horror charts, he is a prolific producer of unique and original stories. From his apocalyptic saga The Gates to his claustrophobic revenge thriller ASBO, Iain writes across a broad spectrum of sub genres, creating both beloved series and standalone titles.
With work available in several languages and in audio, Iain Rob Wright is one of the fastest rising stars in horror, but when not writing he is a dedicated family man. Father to Jack and Molly, and husband to Sally, he is often seen sharing his family memories with his fans on Facebook.
Another belter from Iain Rob Wright. I will admit to preferring his horror writing however he can write a thriller as he is proving with the Sarah Stone series. This starts off with her being kidnapped and held in an unknown location for three months. She eventually attempts to escape and I cannot say much more without giving things away but it is a rollercoaster ride.
Iain Rob Wright is no stranger to writing sequels, he’s done so many times, but this sequel is to a book in a genre he’s not best known for: action thrillers. Soft Target, book one of the Sarah Stone series, showed he can write in any genre. So I was not surprised when Hot Zone was just as good as the first book. This time we get to find out what happened to Sarah at the end of the first book when someone kidnapped her. Iain Rob Wright takes us on a thrill ride of action and adventure as he explains it all. This is another ‘the-stakes-couldn’t-be-higher’ book that is great fun from the first page to the last.
Wow...so I read the first book and thought it was pretty decent, but the second was a hell of a wild ride! Short and sweet! Lots of twists that I didn’t see coming! I’m excited to read the third! Sarah’s character becomes a lot more complex in the second book and we get to see a whole new side to her, which I found really interesting! Thought provoking, exciting, and a cracking finale! Bravo 👏🏻
Another gread read in the series. After Sarah Stone is kidnapped and held for 4 months, she escapes only to find out who her captor really is. Meanwhile someone has released a new and improved Ebola Virus at a hospital and the MCU is asked to investigate. And then the fun begins and continues to the very end. A thrilling ride.
This is a exciting thriller filled with many twists and turns and tons of action. I throughly enjoyed reading this second book in the series and look forward to book 3. I highly recommend it and everything else written by Iain Rob Wright.
Book 2 of the Major Crimes Unit is as good and fast paced as the first. With plenty of action and even more intrigue, join the MCU as they try to stop yet another and more horrific terrorist attack. Another masterfully written tale.
The dialogue is improved over the first book. Lots of action and some interesting new characters. My only knock on the book is the plot twists, they seem like a bad soap opera. All of these reveals and shocking twists just take away from the main story for me.
I think my mind has just been blown! Normally, I don't read these types of books but since it was written by Mr. Wright I had to give a try and I'm so glad I did!
The second book in The Major Crimes Unit series continues the task of keeping Britain safe from terrorists. Ranging from biological threats to old fashioned gun battles the MCU fights a royal battle to stop terrorism. Iain Rob Wright has written another superb thriller.
Full disclosure - I was provided an advanced reader’s copy of this book by the author or their representative but have voluntarily provided a review. All opinions are my own.
When Worlds Collide
Sarah Stone was going to offer her services to the MCU, but prior to that happening she was kidnapped, beaten, and held hostage for four months. Only when she finally managed to mount an escape does she realize that her captor is someone very close to her. As an only child of a decorated army Major, Sarah would have done anything to please her father the hard-nosed disciplinarian who demanded perfection but could never accept the fact that his child was not born male. Even after defying all odds and becoming the first female to pass the SAS entrance exam, Major Stone was still not swayed. Now, back in this environment, Sarah finds herself unwillingly conscripted into her father’s mercenary team. With their target currently high profile on the MCU’s radar, however, it is only a matter of time before Sarah finds herself on the opposing end of those she used to call colleagues. Sarah is torn between loyalty to an organization that she has grown to admire or the blood that she feels obligated to obey. When push comes to shove Sarah’s choice may be the deciding factor between peace and chaos.
Hot Zone is the second in the Major Crimes Unit series of books by author Iain Rob Wright. Set approximately 4 months after the end of Soft Target, we see a woman who is still trying to come to grips with the loss of a friend and the sudden reappearance of the one person in her life she loves as much as she hates. Major Stone is the perfect portrayal of a misogynistic bastard, spouting infuriating stereotypes, slurs, and assumptions. As a woman, this character really made my blood boil, and I was secretly hoping for Sarah to deck him on many occasions. The main plot of the book revolves around a psychotic doctor who is attempting to bring first-world awareness to third-world diseases by deliberately infecting random patients. Considering the entire globe has been ensnared in the Covid pandemic for the past year, it makes me wonder if the impending reissue of these books was not a deliberate move by Wright and if it is, it is completely brilliant! While Hot Zone may not be a typical horror novel, this topic in the current global climate is still terrifying enough to play on even the most levelheaded person’s fears and amp up the tension of the action.
Even after rereading this title again after its original release in 2015, Hot Zone is still a page-turner and a must for anyone who likes thrillers.
On the edge of my seat the whole book. Just when you think you have figured the outcome, Sarah takes another twisting turn involving her father, and turmoil. The end was very unexpected. Can not wait for more.
I'm in love with Sarah Stone, what a fantastic character and I can only imagine the fun the author had writing her story. Iain Rob Wright really gets how to write reality in fiction, known for his horror stories these thrillers have a horror of their own which leaves readers disturbed to the core.
