Death is coming....

Benton has always dreamed through the eyes of killers. But recently, his dreams have changed into an unreadable pattern of shapes and screams. Death is coming, he can feel it in his bones, but he can’t tell who’s next in line.

In a desperate attempt to organize his thoughts, Benton travels to a sleep center in a neighboring town. It’s a short distance, only a few hours along a deserted highway, but there’s nothing easy about the journey. The lonesome road is plagued with mystery and murder. Lost souls linger along the highway...furious, violent, and relentless souls. They’re constantly searching for others to join them in death. Benton can see them. They can definitely see him.

Getting to the center is torturous, but what he finds is worse than anything he could have ever imagined. A violent storm is brewing. Demonic forces ride the raging winds and become a swarm that seeks to destroy all life it encounters. Their eyes are set on Fort Wayward, and if Benton can’t warn the unsuspecting town, the demons will claim every last soul.

The storm is coming. The spirits are rising. And death lingers on the highway of the lost.

Brilliant series.

Since Bentons dreams have changed, Nicole suggested that he go to a sleep center in a neighboring town. Hopefully they can help him! Along the way they have to pass a length of road that is known to be haunted. Benton is the only one who can see the spirits, and they see him. But he also realises that there are demonic forces on their way to the town they just left, and they are intent on killing as many people as they can. With a storm happening, can Benton get there in time to stop the murders?

This was a lot darker and more intense than the last two. Benton is struggling to understand his powers and with the fact that his dreams have become fractured, I felt for him a lot more than I did before. All I wanted to do was wrap him up in a hug because he is hurting!!

The plot was slow starting off, but it was incredibly creepy and spooky. The authors descriptive writing was able to pull me in easily and I could picture the long lonely road, the raging storm and the scary aspects of the spirits!! I had a hard time putting this down because I was enjoying the atmosphere so much.

I love that I'm not really able to see where the author is going with the story! Benton is certainly growing as a character but I can't see where he'll end up, and that's a good thing!! It makes me extra eager for the next installment. I'm looking forward to seeing what the next evil entity will be and how our intrepid heroes will handle it!!

Jake Urry, once again, was amazing and I echo my sentiments from the first book... Jake Urry is one of my favourite narrators. He has such a distinctive voice and one that can bring a horror novel, or any novel for that matter, alive. He has plenty of tones and voices for the characters and he is able to bring a story to life with his cadences and inflections. He read this brilliantly and I highly recommend you check him out.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

This series keeps getting better and better

I am running out of praise phrases to use for this series. Every time I think it’s as good as it gets BAM slapped in the face with more scary, tantalizing situations. Truly if you’re looking for an outstanding series this is for you. I’m so impressed with Sara Clancey’s ability to create relatable characters even when the situations are very far from the norm. I know some people wonder why I don’t break down the book more…..simple. I wouldn’t deprive anyone of all of the nuances, the scares, the what the heck moments. Those things are priceless and should never be cheapened.

Great Book with Spirits

I am so into this series. It is hard to stop for needed things. It is a continuation and yet this is an original story. The storyline is well developed with believable and interesting characters. You will love the interaction between Benton and Nicole. Nicole can be annoying at times but yet you find yourself rooting for her. This is a quick read and you just don't want it to end. I love when Benton sees the spirits. I recommend this book.

Love Sara Clancy books but NOT this narrator!!

I really, really enjoyed reading this series and was looking forward to the audible version but this narrator, Jake Urry, is terrible. He made the story feel so boring when in fact the characters are great! I have not been able to enjoy any of the stories he has narrated even if I enjoyed the written version.
