ugh....so much of the same internal dialogue over and over, page after page. It was like the same 5-6 paragraphs on loop. I couldn't take it and DNF at 64%. In that time they were still only just coming out of her 4 day heat, so basically the whole book up to that point was just confusing sex. I love Omegaverse and have never read one where once the woman was knotted the H was able to still slide her up and down his shaft except the tip, also slick and cum were pouring out even while being knotted when the whole point of the knot is to hold everything in, and most times you never really could tell/were told that the h was even climaxing. Then I kept getting so distracted by the fact that the author repeatedly (and I mean a lot) used/wrote: the hairs on the back of her neck stood up, the hairs on her forearms hardened, the sugary scents of her arousal, and the smell of their arousal kept deepening. I'm sorry for the rant but I don't think I've ever been this aggravated by a book. My OCD usually makes me finish books so I can at least get resolution of the story line but I just couldn't bring myself to read another sentence let alone any other books in the series.

DNF @ 30%. I think I'm just not in the mood for Alpha/omega hijinks but more importantly, I think I really need some story and plot to go with the prolonged, OMG, so, so long, sex scene I'm stuck in right now. I'm 30% in and the only thing happening so far is A/o, instinct driven, sex related. The chase, the capture, the hate seduction and they haven't even started having actual intercourse yet. Additionally, I'm really turned off by all the overuse of the words "gush" and "slick" and the visual that creates for me in this context. It kinda grosses me out. I'm surprised she didn't slip in her "gushing slick" or that nobody else did throughout the castle.

Maybe I'll revisit this sometime down the road but it's not doing it for me today.

Imagine if humans were genetically changed to revert to their basest instincts, while maintaining their ability to intellectualize it. Their thoughts and emotions would be strictly driven by desire and instinct, while they would try to understand and rationalize their actions through logic. For those unwilling to submit to their physical needs, it would be pure torture. Such is the problem for Lucy.

Laxmi Hariharan has envisioned a terrible outcome to the damage we are doing to our world and it is horrifying and fascinating in equal measure. The idea that humans could so easily revert to their animal nature is entirely believable because if science has taught us nothing else, it is that life adapts and finds a way. Perhaps the human population will not be completely wiped out; perhaps we will just change.

At first, I had trouble understanding these characters. That's because I was viewing them as human. Once I realized they were only barely that, more animal than anything else, their actions became more understandable. Whereas my socialization has bred me to see some of the things they did as disgusting, they didn't see it that way.

When my cat throws up and my dog eats the pieces of food before I can clean it up, she doesn't understand why I get so upset. It's not gross to her. In fact, even though we feed her, she probably views it as a matter of survival. What if human survival dictated that we engage in behaviors that have long been viewed as the behavior of animals? What if we remained just human enough to be able to reason and discuss things, but not enough to control our survival instincts? The characters in this book, particularly Lucy, will force readers to consider this possibility.

Full disclosure: I was the editor on this.

A leap of faith
This story just bursts from the pages of the book. The author does not leave us in suspense from the beginning to the cliffhanger, the story is intense and moves quickly. The author puts so much detail into each scene that you feel like you have traveled to their universe, you can feel it as Zeus and Lucy fight against themselves and each other. Zeus seems to have taken the leap to be all in the relationship, but will it be enough to see Lucy through her folly and into the next book? I am really looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

The plot isn't great and we have seen the formula many times before but we know what to expect. It is a fun, light and fast read about the angry badass, viking, omega princess that tries to assassinate the alpha emperor.

Omg this book was wonderful... not. Seriously was this book from the 90’s? Even then the use of the expression was terribly overused. On top of that the writing and overall way the book was thrown together made it seem... well just thrown together.

This is Omegaverse, if you don’t know what it is, please take the time to look it up before you judge this book. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s DEFINITELY Mine.
*Grins*

Received ARC from Author for Honest Review.

I Give this Book a 3.5 or 4ish/5 Listing as 4.

Cliffhanger(?): Yes.

No Spoilers.

Heat: 4/5, there is a lot of scenes but they felt fast paced and no depth/kinda just vague. Despite it being most of the book.
Romance: 3ish?/5, at this point an emotional bond is still forming between them.
Suspense: 3/5
Drama: 4.5/5, I sadly don’t mean this rating in a good way, it is a tad over dramatic at times, I kinda feel like I’m reading a soap opera at times.
Dark(?): No.
I do like Zeus, but he does seem a little more different than the previous book, he’s a very emotional guy, I found that a little odd for an Alpha.
Lucy is a tad too...overdramatized and naive for me though at this point, I was expecting a strong Omega and a fighter, cause it does say that she is a different type of omega... well haven’t seen that yet.
But I love submissive Omegas, but it is classified that she IS different.

It seems to be a dangerous world.. too many cliffs Lol *hint sarcasm*

One thing that kinda disappoints me, is that Lucy isn’t experiencing ‘nesting’. So I’m assuming this instinct might not apply to this series?

This is a good book, though it’s still continuing, I do find it a tad bland for an Omegaverse, and there isn’t really any description of the world or rooms etc.
Something to give you a ‘visual’ in a sense.

Will I be looking forward to see what happens next? Yes.

Awful! Immature & Amateur!

Awful! Seriously Awful! Basic! Amateur! Repetitive and Ridiculous! I can't even begin to say how really bad this was. The writing is so amateur and immature it's cringing. The way the character's think and speak isjust ridiculous and awful! It's also seriously repetitive in just the few pages I did read. Wrong words used in that short amount also. Do yourself a favour and skip this badly written book and go straight to Addison Cain's 'Born To Be' Aplhas Claim book series, to read an omegaverse story written by an actual writer who can write, because this is awful!

It's ok...

It's ok... but... majority of this book is about sex between them..
I would have preferred more substantial writting by the author then just sex. It started to become boring and tiresome.

I think this book is outside of my comfort zone. It’s pretty raw and dystopian in nature, not anything I could normally relate to. I do think it was well written, although some of the descriptive text was redundant. An aggressive Alpha, controlling and dominant, absolutely cut-throat and vicious, is not a pleasant companion for my reading pleasure. Again, it was done well but is not in my comfort zone.

The assassin, Lucy, surprised me in that I expected an Omega female to immediately submit to any form of aggression, but she didn’t. The story had lots of heat and an active story line, but I don’t think I’ll continue with the series. If it has the qualities that you find attractive, I would suggest giving it a chance. I found nothing in the writing that I would criticize (other than the redundancy mentioned earlier). It’s just personal preferences for me and I am not drawn to this type of book. The word “Alpha” grabbed my attention which is why I chose to read it. I adore most shifter type books and snatched it up before I realized the other things that would not appeal to me.

Taken by the Alpha is a hot and fast read full of sexy times. Not that I'm complaining mind you, I quite enjoy that! We are taken into the Knotted Omegaverse to spend time with Zeus & Lucy. Zeus is firmly in his position as Alpha. Not that he feels settled, he still vies to take over Scotland and overthrow with half-brother. Lucy comes to Zeus' kingdom to assassinate him but her plan quickly disintegrates.

Taken by the Alpha straddles the line between fated mates and forced mate bonds. Zeus is a alpha-hole to the extreme and he tends to dominate Lucy. She is an Omega though and was born to be submissive to her Alpha, right? Maybe, maybe not. Her independence is refreshing and helps balance out Zeus' dominance. Maybe you can be submissive in some aspects and dominant in others. That struggle to find the right balance in the relationship goes for both Zeus & Lucy. As with all relationships there is a give and take, whether in the real world or the Omega-verse.

This book ends in a cliffhanger. Not that I mind because I'm definitely venturing back into Laxmi's world to see how Zeus & Lucy's story plays out.

This book had so much potential! From the first page I was hooked and rubbing my hands together, that it's gonna be epic.

At first, when I read about that poetic waxing about how strong of an Alpha I am and that's a fact etc and Lucy's inner monologue.. For a loved of god! I almost dnf in 64%. I think that's the biggest flaw I cannot get past- inner monologues. Few lines is okay but a whole book basically?

Secondly, Lucy was so strong and fought like a pro and I felt after mating she got a lobotomy and became some weird depressive Omega. She tripped, cried and whimpered.

Overall it all felt a huge clusterfuck. I was intrigued about two brothers fighting - I mean brilliant and intriguing. Also dystopian omegaverse is awesome. But this book definitely needs to be refined, removing of those damn inner monologues and replaced by descriptive world building.

A Fast paced & steamy read with a real good twist towards the end!

I grabbed this book immediately after Reading the prologue & wow what a start it has!

Lucy is send by kayden-Zeus's Enemy, to assassinate him. Little does she know that she'll get into mating heat right there, in front of Zeus & her body will want him.

“Why are you fighting the inevitable?” “Because... I've sworn to only lay with my mate.”

Her need can only be quenched by her alpha. Though he wants to keep things physical, to punish her, own her. But things soon take a deeper turn..

“What is so special about this female that she's already in my blood? Why is this prickly omega the only one I want?”

Though he's savage, it's her gentleness with her that was so sweet😍 Her fierce, wild & smart personality made her special. Different.

“He's letting me go; he's giving me the perfect opportunity to tear myself off him & stagger out.”

She should, she had a clan to protect, but the connection makes them alive. They're mates. Forever.

“I want to touch you, hold you, kiss you & protect you.” He frowns as if his own words confuse him.“To keep you safe as someday you may carry my child.”

But could she love a monster?

My Heart was racing in the end, God, I knew she'll run.. & she did. Zeus being worried is an understatement. He had became attached to her.. Omg, she's just jumped off the cliff! I'm off to reading the 2nd book ;-)

P.s. I love Zeus's purr!

Update: In this, they met & their sexual relationship deepened. Next, their trust would be forged!

Lucy has taken on the task of saving her clan of Omegas by sneaking in and murdering the General, you see the Omegas are the only ones that can bear children to the Alphas and she will not degrade herself to that, neither will her clan of Omegas that have escaped Russia after being promised to the Vikings by her father the Czar of Russia. Little does she suspect that her plan will play out against her
when she is unraveled in the presence of Zeus.

Zeus never counted on this slip of a girl to capture his heartless heart, yet she has him chasing after her in the ruined East End where he grew up.. He will bond to her again if he finds her in time, but it will be different this time for she has changed him, only she doesn't know that yet.

Will it be too late for Zeus, will Lucy end it all once and for all?

Zeus has claimed the leadership of the city and is interrupted with a cloth bundle being delivered with an assassin in the middle. But this assassin is an Omega, not just any omega, it is Lucia the Russian princess.

Lucy tries to kill Zeus, but is not successful. Once she realises she is beaten, she is given a chance to run, she doesn’t make it. Her heat is upon her and Zeus smells it on her and knows she is his. Lucy agreed to kill Zeus so she could get protection for her clan of omegas she brought with her from Russia.

Zeus and Lucy mate and form the mating bond, but then Lucy runs away, but is captured by Kayden, Zeus’s mortal enemy. He is planning on using the mating bond to trap Zeus. Lucy has other plans, she manages to find her way to a cliff over the ocean, she jumps off and the story leaves us hanging when Zeus feels Lucy’s hand slip through his.

I was given an advanced review copy of this book and I leave my honest review of this book.

Yikes

This book has so many possibilities. But the back and forth, one step forward and fifteen steps back gave me a headache. Not even a small one, a colossal one. All this book was was mental debates with how they feel and why over and over and over ... and hot s*x, and I’m not complaining about that part. But cheese and rice, we could have gone without 30 chapters of why they want each other but hate that they do but want each other so bad .. but why... but I can’t live without you but I hate that I don’t want to. And ... let me just bang my head on the pillow. Can’t say I’ll be finishing the series. Oy.

There is nothing “pretty” about this book. It is raw and instinctual at the most visceral level. There’s lots of action in this story – maybe a bit too much. There’s lots of description about who does what to whom, but I’m missing the connection to their location. The authors have done a great job of incorporating scents into the story, yet I can’t seem to remember any of the other senses and I’m really feeling the lack of the visual component. Perhaps some of that is the animalistic nature of Alphas and Omegas. But I’m not completely sold on that idea because most animals can see better than humans, so I’m just left feeling a bit lost. I like that Zeus can recognize and feel his emotions, there’s just a lot more of them than I’ve ever seen in any other Omegaverse Alpha. And that feels very odd to me. I love that Lucy is spirited and feisty; a Queen demanding that her Tom prove he’s the strongest mate for her. However, I’m extremely bothered by how badly Lucy’s lying to herself and blaming everything that she does on Zeus. Free Will says we have a choice in everything, and even choosing to do nothing is still a choice. This book ends on a cliff-hanger – both literally and figuratively – and I very badly want to know what happens next.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

Okay this book has steam and raw power strong arrogant aggressive Alpha with a need to control and rule there world is a harsh one were its kill or be killed only the strongest and most dominant can rule and Zeus has killed his own father to achieve it not that his father didn't deserve it he really did. And he is not the only one who wants what he has his brother wants it as well he's not above using and assassin to achieve his goal.

The assassin Lucy is most unusual for and Omega female she won't bow down easily even when the very man she has dreamed of is the one man she is sent to kill why what hold dose Zeus's brother have over her. But when her heat comes on she will have to make a decision. There passion is intense and raw but with danger waiting to strike will they be together or apart.

I thoght this was a intriguing read with a lot of background characters which may have bogged down some reader's but it was still filled with plenty of heat and action which is why I rated it a 4 stars I'm interested to see were this series goes.

The way Lucy entered Zeus' life was wither incredibly brave or incredibly foolish.
Nevertheless, it brought their paths to a crossroad from which there is no turning back.
Now going through her heat cycle, Lucy is completely at the alpha's mercy. The most feared alpha around, and she is his. His to take, his to knot. His to pleasure.
Only if it could be easier, all things considered...
Be prepared for this inferno of passion and chemistry. Basic instincts dominate over logic or human morals. Characters becoming one with their nature, pure and raw, without any barriers they could have as humans. They need to be understood for what they are, who they are, in this altered post-apocalyptic world - and it is explained nicely, step by step, across the pages, providing enough details to understand yet not revealing the whole complexity yet. Lots of steamy scenes increase the heat level inch by inch, and combined with the tension coming from the setup and background story it is a fine read for all fans of paranormal romance with high heat level.

Ok, I've finished it and I can't belive I made it to the last page but after having a few moments to just breath and relax, I decided that I'm just not going to rant about this book.

So how am I going to review it?

Well, I'm just going to compare it to a Wish product you see online. It looks gorgeous in the picture (blurb) but when you get it (start to read it) you don't know what kind of sorcery did they do to mess up something that was portraited so good.

The story in its core it's good albeit disturbingly similar to other omegaverse book that it's sooo good but this one was left shortchanged. The writing and the execution it's poorly done and I won't get started on the editing of this number.
I still would love to know what happens with the main couple but I'm not sure I'm going to endure 2 more books to know about it. Maybe I'll just take a look in a very spoilery review of the last one...maybe not but if you really want to give it a try I promise I won't say I told you so... :P

In all of my Omegaversing I have never read such a sexually charged connection between an Alpha and his Omega mate. Zeus and Lucy are complete strangers yet as soon as they are in each other's physical space their scent for each other is undeniable. Though we get a taste of their 'fated' bond from the prequel Wanted, specially via their dreams, we are completely submersed in a no holds barred raw physical attraction between two people who should despise each other. I love it how they each try so hard to fight their instinct but cave in to the bond almost instantaneously. And once their bond is forged, there is nothing that can separate them, not even death.
I enjoyed the character development, specially in Zeus, as he struggles to accept the influence Lucy has on his personality. Lucy seems to be fighting the hardest, but even her strong will breaks down when faced with her Alpha mate. I can't wait to see what is next for the bonded pair.

How ironic! He was powerful, fierce and feared but a little Omega was affecting his mind and tearing his heart apart. Confused by his feelings Zeus only recognized something for sure, she was his! Lucy felt without strength to fight her heat cycle and her great need for Zeus. Only one decision could she make to protect what really mattered. What intense emotions in this story! Zeus and Lucy struggling with their feelings kept me feeling sorry for them. Difficult decisions for two people who had a lot to lose. Liked these characters and their intensity. Kept me reading interested all the time. Action, drama, suspense, good and strong characters, violence and a lot of passion. A well written, exciting and interesting story that I enjoyed and left me anxious for the next book.

Oh. My. Dear. Lord. Taken by the Alpha (Knotted Omega, Book 1) by Laxmi Hariharan & Scarlette Brooke is wonderfully, deliciously, divinely hot and sexy fun. I don’t generally like dystopian tales but I will definitely make an exception for anything set in the Omegaverse and Zeus and Lucy's story is truly a powerful emotional and action-packed tale that was a total pleasure to read. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

I was first introduced to this series with the prequel - meeting Zeus his vendetta, his anger issues, his highly erotic re-occurring dreams about an Omega meant solely for him (find out it's Lucy.) I feel another reviewer (Lewendon)summed up this story exceptional well in her headline, "It is raw and instinctual at the most visceral level." There is no subterfuge in these characters or the telling of their stories. How it is written makes you feel like you are a voyeur, somehow being integrated into their lives and emotions. If you have not started reading this series, you are missing out as it is pure heat, primal sexuality, human emotions that are raw and honest and shows the struggle of life (their lives anyway.)

Sometimes you want a great love story, filled with graphic sex. It’s that secret desire that we don’t want to admit, and it is easier to tolerate in a science fiction scenario, I bet. Well, here it is.
Taken By the Alpha truly is a complete immersion in an alien mindset, and I did not know what I was getting into. I love it when my mind is engaged trying to figure things out; I don’t want everything spelled out. Kudos! The description of alien sexual practices seems like a cross between dogs and cats, when I discussed it with my husband, but after several chapters of sex, I realized that my prurience was oversaturated. While accurate, the societal norms and extended sexual session made me stop after half the novel.

It was too much for me. You might think otherwise.

Omegaverse must read

It's always great to add another Omegaverse book to my shelves (at least one that is worth mentioning) and this is one that I can be proud to add there. Though I do get annoyed with the constant flip-flopping of internal monologue of Lucy about how Zeus "took her against her will" one moment then didn't the next, overall it was a solid book. I think the working is limited because I don't know what Kayden the Alpha of Scotland fits into this story or what the story is with that, but I'm hoping to have that explained in book 2 (which I will be moving to right now 😉)
