When a construction accident spawns a slew of suspicions at the work site of the old popcorn factory, Mayor Cora Mae Bingham begins to regret her decision to renovate the abandoned building. Her vision of creating a beautiful community center for the citizens has turned into chaos.
With Police Chief Conrad Harris out of town, Cora Mae has to take matters into her own hands to investigate the situation.
The latest Spicetown mystery didn't disappoint! I enjoyed the mystery and the development of the characters. Officer Briscoe added a fun dimension to the book and I need to know who is opening the flower shop. I love following the adventures of the mature crime solving duo - Cora and Conrad!
Conrad is away at dog training camp so it's up to Cora and Wink to solve the murder. Are the tool thefts related to the murder? Could it be someone on the construction team responsible for both the murder and the thefts? Conrad gets back in town and solves both mysteries. I love her writing style. You can picture yourself living in Spicetown and knowing the people. On to the next book.
Small town and everyone knows everything that is going on......The mayor may regret her decision to renovate an abandoned building when a accident happens and all are wondering what really happened.....lots of suspicion and the police chief is out of town. His dog is being trained to be an officer to help him in cases.....when he comes back he digs into the crime scene and investigates many of the workers from the work site.....lots of action and suspense and a quick read.
This is another engrossing saga in Spice town. The storyline Is intriguing and full of twists and turns. The unexpected ending will make you want the story to continue. As always, adventuring along with the mayor, the police chief, and the other loveable characters like Amanda makes the reader wish that this town is for real.
The characters are always a highlight of this series. As the owner of 3 rescue dogs I really enjoyed Officer Briscoe. The take a leak trick was amusing. Looking forward to the next one.
I have really enjoyed the Spicetown series thus far! They have all been great cozy mysteries with wholesome, relatable characters in a charming town. The mysteries are nice because they are not chalked full of gruesome details and I enjoy the depth of character development each story holds. If you like wholesome mysteries these are a great pick!
This book opens as Police Chief Conrad 'Connie' Harris is getting ready to leave for a training course in Kentucky for his dog Briscoe. The City Council has approved this so Briscoe will be an official Police Dog.
Mayor Cora Mae Bingham is at the restaurant when Conrad walks in, he sits with her and orders his usual coffee and cinnamon bun. He teases her about moving her office there, but she prefers to think of it as a satellite one. She assures him he won't miss a thing while he's gone.
Meanwhile at the construction site of the new community center, site supervisor Alan Avery greets a late worker, Owen Hollingsworth with a request to see him before he leaves for the day. Project Manager Erika Johnson inquires if the Owen is in trouble again. It seems he left his tools out again and he was also late again.
Cora Mae is out at the site every day; it's her pet project and she's going to see it through every step of the way. Erika just got her a pink hardhat since she felt bad the extras, they are so dirty. It will also help them keep track of her while she's there.
I got a kick out of Conrad giving Harold 'Wink' Hobson instructions regarding interactions with the mayor. He's certainly going to have his hands full with her, he just doesn't realize it yet. Wink is going to be in charge while Conrad is out of town and Conrad hopes it stays quiet.
Of course, soon after he's gone things go a bit haywire. There's an accident, and then Cora Mae decides to take a look at the site after work.
Needless to say, Conrad was upset not only with Cora putting herself in danger, but also with Wink for not being available when he called.
They didn't find anyone, but a vehicle did leave the area, but they didn't get plates.
On Sunday, Bonita Hollingsworth reports her husband Owen missing. Seems she thought she had to wait forty-eight hours to do so.
I felt bad for Conrad, all of sudden things are crazy in town and he's miles away.
Interesting things with the thefts, accidents and the union all on top of Owen being missing.
This one will have you turning the pages for sure. I love the way this all turns out. I'm not sure Mitzi and Wink are going to make it though.
Sheri Richey continues to keep the reader puzzling who the criminals are. Connie, the police chief, and Cora Mae, the Mayor of Spicetown team up together to find out why there was a man found dead at the job site of the new Spicetown community center and who is stealing equipment from the job site. Lots of suspects to look at and find the guilty ones. On to the next book in the series.
Frequent word omissions and plot not quite tied up. Things happen in this series that aren’t ever actually finished. Turner kids and their home. Saucy’s sister is never mentioned again. The situation with Bonita is just another unfinished plot device.
