June's Remedy (Second Chance Brides of the Old West Book 2) Kindle Edition
She needs to start over after the loss of her husband, he needs to let go of the past. Can they find a way to be the remedy for each other's broken heart?
June Hillman's life was turned upside down after the sudden death of her husband. The bank showed no mercy, quickly repossessing their family apothecary in Yuma, Arizona. June, along with her four-year-old son, move back to her childhood home of Little Ridge, ready to start over. When she returns, she finds the town has hardly changed, except for her first love, Daniel Wentworth.
A broken heart is enough to make any man swear off women, that is until Daniel walks into the new apothecary to find its run by his childhood sweetheart, June. She's an unwanted distraction, threatening to take his focus not only from his wandering cowboy ways, but from his vow to never love again.
Will June find happiness back in Little Ridge? Can Daniel be the man June needs? And will they find a way to make a second go-of-it?

It’s been five years since June lived in Belle, Wyoming, having married and moved to the town of Glenda. But life changed, her husband had been tragically killed during a bank robbery, and even though they had worked their apothecary business together, people expected to deal with a man, and it is time to return home. But her Uncle William, the retired town doctor, has offered her and her son, Ben, a home that will also work for her business in Belle.
Daniel Wentworth’s leg was injured on barb wire rescuing a cow and her calf, and he is concerned with the bleeding and it getting infected. He will go into town to see the doctor, but find he is away and will see a new business, an apothecary. What a shock to come face to face with his former sweetheart, June. She will fix his leg up, and between them, sparks are still flying. But life has changed, he was scared when they were getting serious and left, and she found someone else and married. What will become of these two?
“He hadn’t come back into town expecting to start up where they’d left off years ago, but he couldn’t walk away from a second chance with her, could he?”
The story is a sweet, clean, second-chance romance between Daniel and June. Most people remember that they were sweethearts years ago. Now June is a widow and mother raising her four-year-old son, Ben. The relationship between Ben and Daniel is sweet, and you can just feel how Ben needs a man to look up to. A trip to church and listening to Pastor Elkins may offer peace to both Daniel and June and help pave the way for their future---that is unless busybodies don’t stir up trouble first.
“Pastor Elkins continued to talk about how God often changes our paths to give His people second chances. He explained that though the change in direction can sometimes be difficult, God does it for the person’s good.”
The story has plenty of emotions, second chances, new beginnings, and I liked how June was able to use her talents to help people. The timeframe is a great example of gender roles, and while June would have been a great doctor with all her knowledge, it was beyond her reach. I enjoyed the people of Belle and this sweet second chance romance.
“Knowing that entering the Belle apothecary three months ago was the best decision of his life. Finding his way back to June was the exact remedy he needed, and he was never going to suffer from a broken heart again.”
