Taking Love and Law Seriously

Adam Reynolds has earned a solid reputation as a K9 handler for the Army. He and his partner, Valor, have become experts in searching for bombs, so when he is offered the chance to train at the elite, Disaster City Search and Rescue facility, he jumps at the chance. What he doesn’t expect is to fall for one of the female instructors.

Clara Burnette is a decorated K9 instructor at Disaster City Search and Rescue. As a woman in a mostly male-dominated profession, she knows it’s never a good idea to get involved with a fellow cop. The problem is, she can’t seem to avoid the attraction brewing between her and new recruit, Officer Reynolds.

Can Adam convince Clara to take a chance on him? What will happen when Adam is summoned back to his previous post? And can these two devoted K9 handlers find a way to be together despite everything that keeps getting in the way?

I enjoyed this clean Christian based story that is an addition to the contemporary Lawkeepers series and also a military police story. There is a great cast of characters along with two special people and some of their personal issues that will have an attraction but at a disadvantage. This story has strong moral principals without being preachy. Each story in the Lawkeepers series will read as a stand-alone.

While this is a great addition to the Lawkeepers series, it will segue into a new series that will be released later this month as Disaster City Search and Rescue.
Adam Reynolds is a K-9 handler with the US Army, and along with his dog, Valor works at the checkpoints on base. He has applied for an academy in Texas for additional training, and with it, hopes to be reassigned in a hot zone overseas.

Disaster City Search and Rescue trains men and women for just that, disaster situation, search and rescue, and even bomb and explosive detection. Only one female instructor, Clara Burnette, is a decorated instructor with her K-9, Rebel.

The plot will have Adam and his K-9 applying and being accepted at DCSRA, along with 59 other recruits. The training is a month-long and very extensive. Approximately one-third of the class will voluntarily quit, another third will barely squeak by, and the final third will flourish. It doesn’t take long for Adam and Valor to prove to what level of commitment he has and how well he works with his K-9. The only downside to the school is his attraction to his instructor.

“It was physical proof that dreams really could come true.”

The story takes the reader on the journey of training and teamwork between human and K-9 as they must navigate obstacles, traps, and danger during their time at DCSRA. Adam and Valor prove to be a well-suited team, and his aptitude to stay abreast of the dangers and how the enemy tries to cover them up pushes him to the top of his class. He doesn’t enter the training with a chip on his shoulder or cocky attitude, but with the hopes of bettering himself and having a second chance overseas in a hot-zone.

While an attraction has formed between Instructor Clara Burnette and Trainee Adam Reynolds, this isn’t so much a love story as a story of determination and commitment, that will lead to the future. What will happen at the end of the one-month training? Adam will return to his Army base in Colorado, and Clara will still be in Texas training new recruits. Long distant relationships don’t work—but has God heard Adam’s prayers and has the answer? When we learn to trust God and allow him to lead, prayers are answered.

I look forward to the new series and have already pre-ordered many of the books.

Clara bomb detection is an instructor at DCSRA where Adam isa trainee. Adam wants to be the best in class in hopes of getting assigned to the hot zone over seas in memory of the squad he lost earlier in his career.
There is a mutual attraction but they know it’s not a good idea to get involved during training.
Where will this attraction lead?

I thoroughly enjoyed Lawfully Heroic. The men and women who work Search and Rescue are so brave and dedicated. I am glad there will be more books about these brave servants. Adam and Clara are both dedicated to the profession but love does not always wait for our timetable. The characters are personable. The well written book is believable and captured my interest on page one. I highly recommend this is a sweet, clean romance.

It was great that Clara was willing to take a chance on Adam. I also love that Adam changed his goals to make a place for Clara in his life. I liked how the instant attraction between them grew into something more and they were willing to take a chance on love. I enjoyed that they were thoughtful but also spontaneous.

Clara works hard to prove she's as strong as her male counterparts, going so far as to hide her softer side.

Adam does more than the minimum to train with his K9 for the job he wants, and it shows. This gets him noticed by his instructors and fellow trainees.

They hide their attraction for a while, but long-distance romances don't work. So...?

I was a good, clean reading but her writing style doesn't make It very exciting. Overall, it was a good story.

Adam is already known as a great K9 handler. And he decides to take further training. That’s where he meets up with Clara who is a trainer. She was determined to never get involved with another cop. But something happens and challenges start happening. Face paced and a great author!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sounds authentic

It is not my area of expertise, but it all sounds authentic. A tough job that saves many lives. I struggled with the attraction/romance aspect. Was really good how it all worked out in the end. Love k9 stories.
