Publisher's summary

Four years ago, the Erethran honor guard arrived and threw John Lee into a portal to another world. Since then, Earth has received no word of the intrepid adventurer. Until now.

Finding his way back to Earth through a portal, John returns to a very changed world. The shackles of galactic control have bound Earth and humanity ever tighter to the system.

Now, John has to find a way to free Earth from galactic control while battling stronger, more powerful enemies. And worst of all, he will need to indulge in politics.

Good thing he's got a new class and new allies.

World Unbound is the sixth book of The System Apocalypse, a litRPG/gamelit series of post-apocalypse troubles, sci-fi and fantasy elements, all in a world filled with game mechanics.

This series contains elements of games like level-ups, experience, enchanted materials, a sarcastic spirit, mecha, a beguiling dark elf, monsters, minotaurs, a fiery red head, and a semi-realistic view on violence and its effects. Does not include harems.

A Needless and Uneventful timeskip.

My expectations were very low after the rushed and abrupt ending of book 5. But listening to the first couple chapters, I could not fathom how idiotic the whole situation is. John Lee comes back after 4 years and he does it with a bang. He psuedo-solos a field boss showing his prowess. He reunites with his friends and everything is back to normal. How uneventful is that? Sam dies off screen and half the protagonists our written out of the series. We invest in the characters and they just die without a shed tear from our MC? John is actually pissed off that Lana founds love. Dude. You have been gone for 4 years. You have no fucking chill. In those 4 years our MC was not humbled at all. He is pessimistic and edgy as ever. He has not grown as a person and I actually end up disliking how much he is acting like a child even after 4 years away. A timeskip suppose to show how a character has grown and its almost like reading a mystery novel trying to figure out what has changed or how has he growned. But literally you can replace the 4 years with a month and you will not see a difference at all.

There is also some very stupid situations that are irrational. John joins Mikito's high level hunting group, the champions, Half of them tease John for leeching exp and being useless obviously underestimating him. Seriously? Did we literally not see John solo a field boss during the first chapter of the novel? I am sure everyone was there. This is where I had to drop the novel. This novel is just an attempt to milk an already dried out plot.

WHAT HAPPENED!?

Biggest money grab book
Just listen to the first hour, skip the next 8 hours and listen to the last 2 hours of the book.
What a needless political rant this book is.
How do you go from a mass story progression in a span of 2-3 years in 5 books, then to have this book...
Old mate talks about what the "player stats" really do but never uses it besides at the start as an example...

Little odd.

Still love the book, but Tao Songs decisions for some of the characters seemed uncharacteristic of what I knew of them.

Excuses

So do we skip another 5 years and get summaries of battles and political intrigue? I like the earlier work but it's like the author is losing interest. I hope it turns around. I understand he has started other series that may be more on his mind. If the next book in the series picks up with more substance I'll give the series a chance. I mean even the interaction with his buddy AI was what? Can anyone tell me? I mean after the forbidden planet and the AI's growth it's like he just got quiet compared to earlier books. Hate to write a tough review. I'm giving stars hoping it will improve.

Uhhh.....

"So glad that John hooked up with Roxley," said no one. Ever.

Nick is awesome as always.

Not what I expected

I have been waiting for this book for some time.
I must say that I like most of it. You almost lost me with the main character having attractions and affairs with men. That’s not what most readers that I know want to envision from the hero! Side people ok, but not the main. Also why do you continue to make Him such a passive fool concerning Lana. That wasn’t very realistic for how he dealt with that situation. He had been hurt before. I hope you give him more backbone in the future.

Parts of this book was not needed

Parts of this book was not needed to get John into space. I found the book to be filled with unnecessary information and long winded in some areas. The loss of one of the main characters was not productive. Keeping that character and having them accompany John on his quest would have kept John connected to Earth it seems the author is intrested in taking John's story arch from preserve the human race to savior of the universe.

Great series, but couldn't get into this one.

I don't know if it was the amount of time between the last book and this one, but I had trouble staying interested in this book. It was hard to follow with all of the political angles and trying to remember which characters were which is probably why I didn't get into this one as much. I bet if the book was available right after I listened to the prior book I may have felt differently.

Absolutely amazing!

I loved this book, it's probably my second favorite after Redeemer of the Dead. Each of these books draws you into the story line and inspires real feelings for each of the characters. I absolutely recommend.
